Best new TV shows this year then?
Andor, The Bear and How To With John Wilson for me.
How To is a slight cheat because we only got it this autumn but the first series originally aired on HBO a couple of years ago. It does contain the single episode of telly that I think is the most impressive I’ve seen this year though (How to make risotto) so I’m including it.
The prison arc alone would get Andor on this list. Perfect.
And The Bear was just excellently made and acted drama.
Honourable mentions: Strange New Worlds, Beavis & Butthead and Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared

House of the Dragon for me, far exceeded my expectations and it became a must watch the night it was aired.
The Bear was my surprise of the year as it came out of nowhere.
The Old Man is great for Bridges and Lithgow.
Reality/guilty pleasure of the year: The Traitors.

Andor for me , absolutely loved it and rewatched it several times too
The Bear was fantastic, White Lotus S2 too and there’s never enough Aubrey Plaza on my telly.
The Traitors is something I expected to hate, but the whole family is addicted to it and we’re eager to see where it ends up.

Hadn't heard of The Bear till now, so will add that to the watchlist.
For me, the best new show was Andor. Started excellently and only got better. Stunningly good Star Wars.
Not released this year, but I came late to Succession and it was as great as people said.

The Bear by some distance, Severance and Pachinko are #2 and #3 respectively.
Vox Machina filled the Castlevania void nicely too - nothing special but entertaining all the same.
Yet to watch Andor.

I liked Bear and its tight focus (although the lead was almost playing the same role as in US Shameless!!!), but man Andor was proper blockbuster TV, as well as being actual good star wars. Perhaps the first star wars of any kind with good acting, story and dialogue... (Besides TIE FIGHTER of course).

Man, I'm really gonna have to watch Andor aren't I? It came along just after I'd burned out on all the increasingly rubbish SW tv shows and I really couldn't muster any interest in it.
I can't really remember many tv shows that have hooked me this year. I think I watched too many in 2019/2020 and generally got burned out on them this year... or maybe I've just forgotten them.
I've enjoyed The English and Wednesday a lot, but I might just be picking them because they're very recent. Ms Marvel and She Hulk were also good fun, if flawed.
For some reason I keep putting off starting the new season of Harley Quinn, otherwise I imagine that would be up there. I think I'm worried it won't measure up to previous seasons.

Pretty close between Andor, The Bear and Severance for me. I didn't love The Bear initially as much as most and found the really chaotic first few episodes difficult to get on with. By the final episode though I was completely won over.
Andor was great all the way through. As already mentioned the prison arc was something else. Ended with a nice surprise too, as I was expecting the 10th episode to be the last, but there were actually 2 more! Some great Star Warsing.
Severance (was that this year? Only watched a couple of months ago) was a really good TV equivalent of a page turner. Great premise and kept you coming back for more with each twist and turn. Reminded me at times of Lost, but less frustrating.

Is that John Wilson one new? I thought he passed away a few years back. Love fishing shows so will seek it out.

I watched half of Andor, but I wasn’t enjoying it at all so I never went back to it.
My top 3 would be Winning Time, House of the Dragon and She-Hulk.

Surprised at She-Hulk getting mentions. The trailers and crap looking CGI didn't really sell it.

Squid Game? Shit, not this year.
Altered Carbon? No, it's even older.
Ozark? ...bollocks. not this year either. I guess the last season was this year? Though the ending infuriated me.
The Expanse ended this year? Does that count?
Stranger Things? Massively bloated but best season since the first.
Resident Evil... I can't put that on a TV show if the year list at all.
I actually really enjoyed Lord of the Rings. I know plenty of folks disliked it but I genuinely enjoyed it and though it was good. So for *actually* new things it's that for me.
Hoping to watch House of the Dragon over Christmas.

Andor with Severance as runner up.
As I've said many times I didn't expect anything to top Severance but Andor is not only the best show this year for me it pretty much wiped away the disappointment of Boba Fett and Obiwan.

I kept a list in case I forgot anything during list season and genuinely thought Obi Wan was last summer not this year

The Book of Boba Fett started in late 2021 but finished in 2022 so if anyone who has no taste wants to vote for that then I'd say it's eligible.
Vote for it then delete your FG account and rethink your life choices.

I enjoyed Boba Fett a lot more than the boring shit that was Andor. Obi Wan wasn’t great though.

House of Dragon was great too. I've been hoping for a new fantasy show to fill the Game of Thrones gap and out of all the attempts it probably shouldn't have been a surprise that the GoT prequel has done the best job.
Wasn't as consistently as good as Severance, The Bear or Andor though.
Edit - think I'm the only one that really enjoyed Obi Wan. Not seen Boba Fett yet.

Obi Wan was watchable. Bona Fett was bobbins. Not seen Andor yet.
Probably The Bear or House of the Dragon for me. Not seen much new though, so far behind.

The Bear or Julia.
Both excellent shows, both based around food, but completely different from one another and I loved both.

My favourite (old) John Wilson moment was when that pike wriggled out of his arms and fell back in the lake, snapping his rod in half in the process

Pachinko, 100%.
Very good year for TV and for me there's still a couple of shows still to come (The Witcher: Blood Origin, Treason). Not to mention the multitude I haven't started yet.

See, I haven’t got through Andor, and while it’s good, I’d also argue it’s a bit slow. A condensed version would be the best Star Wars story ever made. But I’m finding myself drifting off a lot.
There’s been good ones this year. Euphoria, House of the Dragon, The White Lotus, The Boys S3, and Attack on Titan: Final Season part 2 are prob my top five.
I need to catch up a little so that’s not an especially definitive list.
Edit: Oh shit Severance needs to get a mention as well.
