Nah, I don't agree with that. They've quietly been releasing a bunch of good stuff for a while now, especially since last Autumn. This is just a project gone wrong in the classic 'director wants to make a Western game' style of the mid-2000s and I think Hajime Tabata has finally been 'found out' as this has been his project rather than being able to palm it off as him completing someone else's project like FF15.
I've been enjoying games like Star Ocean, Valkyrie Elysium, Dungeon Encounters, Diofield Chronicle, multiple Saga remasters and even the Crisis Core remake was interesting and worth playing; I would be surprised if those games combined ended up costing half of what Forspoken did.

Also isn't this is a PS5 exclusive? I'm surprised because honestly it doesn't look that impressive.

Didn’t Tabata leave quite awhile ago? Like before they even released all the DLC for FFXV. I agree it’s very PS3 era “Japanese developers make a western game,” and they went as far as getting Amy Hennig to write it. Which if we’re going the “exposed” route, I kind of had that thought when I played the demo. I was on Team Amy when the whole ousting her out of Naughty Dog thing happened during Uncharted 4’s development in favor of the Last of Us duo (and ultimately Druckmann, since Staley’s gone now too). But in all the time since she’s been gone from Naughty Dog, this is the first project she’s actually produced to completion, while Naughty Dog has been thriving since. So I don’t know anymore.

You're right, I thought he was still there, probably because the way it moved reminded me so much of FF15.
Hennig and Gary Whitta were only brought in for the initial setting from what I can see, with other people doing the actual writing for the game, so I think it's just a case of them doing their work years back and moving on.

The truth is always somewhere in the middle with these things it's possible she's good at what she does but maybe it isn't conducive to making something you can ship. Anyway I think she's working at EA on that Black Panther/Captain America WW2 game.

It got delayed twice last year. There's only so much you can polish a turd. Maybe the 2025 Xbox version will improve it...

I think she did yeah. Actually where the fuck is my Legacy of Kain reboot??? There's hopefully maybe going to be something on the way. Crystal Dynamics did a survey a couple of months back and the results were such that they put out this statement: “In the past, we’ve found that surveys typically get between 1,000 and 3,000 responses, but when we asked folk about Legacy of Kain, we received over 100,000 responses. 73,000 gamers completed it entirely, and if you are one of them, we thank you very much, and we appreciate it was quite an effort given the survey was pretty extensive. “We saw the news of our survey shared across social and press platforms and we really felt this was a great way to reignite this passionate fan community with this legendary PC and console game series. Rest assured, we hear you loudly and clearly, and we will continue to update you on the what if possibilities ahead for Legacy of Kain in the future.” So... at least there's some hope.

Pre-purchase Forspoken 79,99€...
*Hnggh*
Otherwise I never had the best impressions of it. All spell effects look oddly samey. Mostly because everything is so "particle-y" for lack of a better word.
Edit: I did forget that it's already released/being reviewed. Should be interesting.
Edit2: Just remembered what the look reminds me of: Lichtdom: Battlemage. That game looked great as well. Technically. It was very detailed and crisp, but also kind of sterile. Pretty subjective I guess.

"Reads like Four(out of ten)spoken." Shamelessly swiped from the comments on the review at the old place It's just as well, really. Many more things coming out (just in the next few months there's Wo Long and Tears of the Kingdom, and those alone could potentially cover the entire year) so it's good for the ol' wallets to have a few skippers

Tears of the Kingdom is a bit of a grim title for a Zelda game

The demo was solidly average. I might have been more engaged if it hadn't been dumped mid story with a lot of "huh?", but it was a passable open world with an unusually sweary teen protagonist (oooh, edgy!).
Sounds like the full game is more of the same (presumably with the story included, though) so there's zero chance of a full price purchase for me. I might pick it up sometime when it's £20 in the sales, though. Seems about right for a 6/10 max game.

20 quid for a shit game is still 20 quid though. Hope this costs square enix a fortune, they are so out of touch with gamers nowadays it's crazy.

I mean, there’s definitely people who were against it the moment they saw the lead. He’s not wrong. But the demo was so bad though. And I say that as a big Square Enix fanboy.

I'm glad that he's championed oppressed demographics such as women, black people and...err...the playstation brand.
He hasn't bought it yet, maybe, he might do. So BE WARNED.

Well that's one sale for the game. Squexix will only want another 7 million or so.

This seems like a fair assessment of the game's strengths and weaknesses (to me, at least, not having played it for myself):

I rolled my eyes a bit at that, I must admit; however, he explains later on that the 7/10 rating came from the endgame content (as opposed to the campaign, which he continues to describe as "average" throughout).

Not sure if anybody is still interested in getting it, but apparently the game's PC version was built for GPUs with 12 GB VRAM. Digital Foundry have recently uploaded a video on this version. Apparently the advice is to simply forget about it if you don't have monster hardware.

The comments on an EG article made me laugh. A massive list of things to do if you buy it to ensure it just about runs acceptably...
Yeah, or maybe just don't bloody buy it and reward this nonsense!
10GB 3080 here anyway so I'd be shit out of luck due to my woefully underpowered GPU.
