I think it's a PS5 exclusive?
Anyway, there's a demo up on the store. Seems like it's an average open world generic fantasy game.
It keeps going on about magic parkour, but there is nothing in the world to parkour over, so you just end up using it to sprint everywhere.
Combat takes some getting used to, with offensive and support spell wheels, which you can change with the front bumpers and fire with the back triggers. Honestly felt a bit like trying to rub my tummy and pat my head at the same time.
Also commits a cardinal sin of starting in quality mode, so your very first impression is sluggish with a seemingly terrible frame rate. I've been spoiled now so felt unplayable. There's a graphic setting buried in options that wasn't that easy to find.
All in all, not overly impressed, but YMMV.

I think there's a thread for this somewhere but I've no cause to actually go find it.
I played through the demo. Early impressions were that it feels like a bad game developed early on the PS2, unaware of any of the advancements games have made in writing, voice acting, level design, player movement, enemy design and objectives since then. Writing is laughably bad and the protag cusses at random, possibly because they thought it makes her sound cool? Outside of the run the player controls like a tank as well.
But harsh as that sounds, the more I played and took the time to understand the game, the more I seemed to like it, well, at least the combat. For some reason, the game doesn't tell you that you can change between magical skillsets on the fly using the d-pad. That alone opens the combat up much more and makes it more dynamic. Given what I've seen about the number of spells available, it seems like there's potential here for some fun stuff.
I don't think the combat is particularly great, very much style over substance but it gives some mindless fun which I don't mind. Sometimes it's a bit too visually busy for its own good though and it's hard to read what's going on and can feel janky. I could also see it becoming stale quickly, there's an enddemo boss that's just a complete sponge and it doesn't feel all that different fighting the different enemy types.
It also seems the demo itself is just a shit demo to showcase the game. The hoards of menus just look like a ballache to bother with and there's nothing to do outside of very basic activities like clearing enemies on a bridge, which surely can't be reflective of the full game. Not sold at all, but there could possibly be some good in there.

Yeah, I gave it 20 minutes and it was just an upscaled-PS3-esque presentation with an utterly tedious tutorial and utterly tedious combat. The Wo Long demo was no less complex, but it a) looks the nuts in places, and b) was fun as fuck to play.
I don't know who this game is for. I can't understand how anyone would be excited based on this demo. Odd all round really.

There has been a bit of chatter about the game here fontgeek.io/thread/662/games-own-threads-thread?page=10but it's just as well to give it its own thread. I haven't tried the demo myself - I'm pretty tired of AAA open-world games, and I've been saving my last scrap of appetite for 'em to play The Witcher 3 for the first time! - and it looks kind of generic from the footage I've seen.

Luckily for you this is as far from AAA as I think it's possible to get.

I think it's a PS5 exclusive? It's also on PC, but no other console. Sadly, no demo on PC.

I had a mildly diverting play through the demo, but I could never really stomach open worlds. There is never anything interesting in them. It's all well and good being told you can go to anywhere you can see, but when you get there, you find the same assests in some new blend. There is never anything truly surprising over the distant hill. So yeah, I don't think I'll be picking this one up.

I thought it looked genuinely poor. Not that it matters. I’d take ugly as sin if it played well!

Yeah, I was interested in it since seeing the preorder on the store, but the demo has put me right off.

I forgot I pre-ordered this on the back of the original hype and it has now been dispatched. Damn me and my foolish, antiquated ways.

I know, I know. I am a sucker for a physical copy and so have always pre-ordered. After a very long period doing it, knocking the habit is hard!

Apparently reviews are going to be thin on the ground because they sent barely any codes out.

I think console codes were sent out to big publications, smaller ones no and no one got any PC codes which isn't suspect at all, especially when you consider those terrible recommended specs.

PS5 is in the mid-60s on metacritic and opencritic, no PC reviews

5 at Gamespot, 6 at IGN. Ouch! Ha, fuck. An IGN 6 is not a good look. That demo that I barely managed 30 minutes told me everything I needed to know about this game. The EG review has a point that the reviewer really tries to turn into a positive but really can't, point being the game did click for them but not until almost the end of the campaign. I shouldn't really have to play almost all the entire game to 'get it'.

Square Enix have to be the shittest major developers. Although Unisoft just making slightly reskinned versions of the same game over and over again puts them up there too.

The couple of reviews I’ve read say it’s a 12 hour game and it really starts getting good around hour 11.
Hope it doesn’t need to sell eight million copies to break even or anything.

Yeah, it has some decent reviews and a 70 meta score is far from bad. Slow start mentioned in a lot of places. I still quite like the look of it though.

Can't believe they released this. Played the demo for 10 minutes, I wouldn't have stuck with it on the PS2. You'd think given the welcome the demo got, they could have delayed it for a year, made it half decent. Quarter decent even.

It got delayed twice last year. There's only so much you can polish a turd.

It all makes sense why you realise the CEO of Square is still all in for the Blockchain, I mean they sold all the Western studios and IP that comes with it just for the Blockchain.
