Do you think they relate to the original cartoons greasy weirdo version?

Is it really a big change? Someone who can change gender at will, it fits the character. I see no issue at all. Check the comments. One guy nails it though by pointing out a large part of X-Men is accepting all types. I'm sure videos will keep popping up on my youtube feed soon now that I've watched the trailer on it. No I get it, but I just don't give a shit about these fucking chuds who love to talk about masculinity and stoicism but fuck me are they so sensitive. It's almost as if they love the perpetual victim culture they claim to hate.

I’ve been working my way through the original recently and the animation on it looks better than the new one, but still looks alright. Hopefully the plot of decent as the original seems to have done arcs very well.
No idea how I followed what was going on as a kid when I missed loads of episodes.

So I thought Prof X zoomed off to another planet with Lilandra at the end of the original series?
Anyway, looking forward to this. Hopefully no more Morlok Christmas specials though.

Got round to watching The Marvels yesterday, that was not too shabby at all. I chuckled throughout (Ms. Marvel is such an earnest little fangirl, she is adorable) and liked the light tone of the humour (which was handled better than the try too hard nature of Love and Thunder's humour, which jarred with a very serious bad guy and threat).
Thought the three Marvels were great together with very good chemistry and whilst the story was fairly run of the mill gubbins there were some very cool sequences holding it all together (Goose sequence was majestic).

Yeah, I'm a huge Marvel stan (obviously not THE "Marvel Stan") but even so I think once more people check it out on D+ they'll be pleasantly surprised. The film got hurt by a lot of things that weren't its fault and deserved to do a lot better in cinemas.

I thought it as pretty shit. All the recent output has been, since the 3rd Spider-man movie. Panther 2, Antman 3, Marvels, Thor 4, all just various levels of lightweight and meaningless. They need a major rethink.

I suppose I should give it another go but I couldn't get past the first 20 minutes or so. I just found the swap fighting and jumping between the 3 characters really annoying and I had no idea who any of the aliens were or why Nick Fury was in a space base now? Maybe it's from something I'd missed in a previous show / movie or maybe it would all get explained later but Marvel feels like too much hard work to bother with now.

Like I said, I'm hugely into it, but I'd put Guardians 3 in my personal MCU top ten, and The Marvels probably in my top 15.
But then I do think it probably has shifted from each movie being an event to just being the next episode of a show that you love*.
*Obviously not everyone loves it, but if you do love a show there's usually a baseline level of quality for you that carries you through even the ropier moments.

Fury in space has never really been explained, exactly. They suddenly had the SWORD base and he was there in the Far From Home end credit scene, and then through Secret Invasion and Marvels.

Fury being in a space base is really only referenced in the end credit scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home. I mean, they talk about it in Secret Invasion I guess, but he's on Earth the whole time and it's really just hand-waved away. Derb beat me to it 😉

I liked Marvels. It was fun and breezed by. Probably mid-tier for me. Far from being one of their worst and deserves a better second streaming life than it had in cinemas.
X-Men 97 however, worries me more the more I see of it.

I do agree that a lot of the recent output hasn't been great, the build up to End Game is unlikely to ever be repeated and it has been floundering somewhat since (with some quality movies here and there, notably Spider-man: Far From Home, Guardians 3 and Doctor Strange 2). I just expected Marvels to be shit and was pleasantly surprised it wasn't.

Kamala and her family not sharing the same generic quip making personality basically every other MCU hero shares is a huge plus for me. Actual characters and gags that weren’t just Whedon-lite oneliners? That’s gotta be worth giving a chance at least.

I didn’t mind The Marvels. It didn’t think it was Shakespeare with sky lasers which was a nice change of pace

I like the fact that after The Marvels - which felt kind of fun, throwaway, and low-stakes, despite the universe-threatening potential of the plot - we get Deadpool, Captain America, and Thunderbolts, which hopefully will all feel different, away from the epic CG-filled fantastical things of Doctor Strange, Ant-Man and Wakanda. Hopefully we get a fairly grounded piss-take-a-thon with Deadpool, then a relatively grounded conspiracy/adventure story with Cap (it's got a President in it so I assume they're going the political thriller route), and then Thunderbolts being full of "bad guys" might give it yet another flavour and - again - feel more grounded as it's set on Earth with more street-level heroes. And then somewhere there Fantastic Four can be all crazy and spacey and whatnot.
I just feel - hope - that it can give us a change of pace and tone after all the far-out fantastical stuff. And - hey - I love the far-out fantastical stuff, MODOK's little bum and all. But I still like to see a change every now and again.

I gave The Marvels another go tonight on D+, after seeing it in the cinema when I dozed off a few times during the latter half of the film Enjoyed it but it felt as if there was some back story missing and Dar Benn's origin would have been better suited as a prologue and her powers and grand plan could have been better explained & fleshed out She seemed to have been waging her plan for years but only in the film did she get her bangle to bang with her hammer to start creating the rifts I didn't think Brie Larson deserved the criticism, as she looked to be having a fun in the role; however the film was second tier marvel

I know I’m repeating myself but I really like the more grounded action-thriller Bond/Bourne influenced MCU stories like Cap 2 and F&WS so I’m hoping Cap 4 and maybe even Thunderbolts lean more in that direction after the endless cg we’ve had since Endgame.
They could even shoot on real locations and not green screen everything again at last.

I really like Brie Larson as Capt Marvel (though of course she's not as great as Kamala). I don't really get where the criticism comes from (other than the whole incel thing).
One issue they've had post-endgame is that almost all the movies have become big mystical space things. You used to get that occasionally with Thor and Guardians, but it was mixed in with all other different types of movies from the other characters. Recently it feels like, maybe by accident, they've ended up with almost all mystical/multiverse/space opera characters at once.
I guess maybe it's an inevitable consequence of Infinity War / Endgame connecting so much of the MCU to the Guardians/Asgard stuff. Plus of course the multiverse stuff. But they also lost Iron Man and Cap, who were two of the more grounded characters. (And put Hawkeye in a tv show instead of a movie, and made Black Widow way too cgi-fest).
Thunderbolts is gonna suck though. Sorry.

Immediate first impression of X-Men 97 is that the voice acting and tone of the story have picked up well but the animation is slightly off. Mainly the faces of people when they’re not heroing looking more like they’re off Invincible than the original series or maybe its the way its been colorised and shaded.
Its better than the trailers had me worried it would be.

Popped on metacritic to look for something else and was surprised at how positive reviews for '97 are. I'd pretty much given up hope, but will have a gander later.

I’ve watched the first two episodes and storywise and the characters all seem to hold up. Its a lot better than I was expecting. Annoying that its a weekly drop but it doesn’t feel like it’ll be a chore like the mainline MCU shows have become. My only real issues would be what I said about the animation in the non-hero scenes not feeling authentic and two of the voice actors being off from the original Rogue sounds like someone doing an impression and Morph is essentially an entirely different character. I don’t like Magneto’s redesign either, he looks he’s a different style of design to everyone else . Its not groundbreaking but if it can keep up the standard for all ten episodes it’ll be a nice little revival and better than the original final season was.
