James Marsden is 100% going to show up as Cyclops at some point, probably next year, so they might not wanna go back to that casting well. I hope they do revive Cyclops. He’s always got dumped on for not being cool or edgy but I think he’s great character. #Justice4Scott Going to have to like this. His straight forward approach was a defining part of the X-Men. Even before the edgier, I will murder you with my claws, shit characters came along. He is no Nightcrawler though.

I like Wolverine but there's a good case that Cyclops is more skillful.
Wolverine only survives most of the fights he's in because of his healing factor, so I do question just how skilled he is as a fighter.
Gambit was better than both though.
If the MCU gives us a good version of Gambit I'll be much more interested in the franchise.

Wasn't potato head Channing Tatum meant to be doing a Gambit film.
And the producers where saying "He is really good, especially his accent. Trust me bro." not very convincingly.

Chatum is apparently in Deadpool 3, but then so is everyone else.
Also, every mainstream Marvel/DC superhero movie next year is actually about a villain, apart from Madam Web (who I think is a hero? I only really know the character from the 90s cartoon)

I've now also seen The Marvels. It was good knock about fun. Good not great. It felt a bit unfocused at times so when they tried to hit much emotional there wasn't really the development to go with it. But most the time it was just kinda fun enjoyable stuff. Not as good as Ragnarok, probably better than Love and Thunder, better than an Antman movie.
The soundtrack was no way near as good as Captain Marvel.

Put an instrumental version of The Day The World Went Away over some of the planetary destruction scenes and they'd have a lot more gravitas, that's for sure.

There is one particular song that is my favourite musical moment in the entire MCU.

There is one particular song that is my favourite musical moment in the entire MCU. I thought it was the first one, and then I realised it was probably the second one. (to paraphrase Starlord)
Though I guess it could also have been the other one.

Seen The Marvels now and thought it was enjoyable. In his review, Kermode called it an absolute mess, which is probably true, but I had a good time nonetheless. A fairly breezy film, with the central three continuing to be likeable characters and a villain with good motivation (although that could have been explored more, I think).
I also think that Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan might be standout of the recent new superheroes. She is great in both this and Ms. Marvel. Her joy at being part of all this is just effectious and she has that Peter Parker relatable quality.
As already mentioned, music choices aren't quite as good as the original Captain Marvel film, but there are some great uses of it throughout. Some of the most unexpected moments come from the music too.

Kinda feel it should have been a day and date free release on Disney+, would likely have lost them even more money but would have alleviated some of the bad PR.
If it was a console game you'd expect it to be day one on game pass (a bit like EA's immortals of avernum).

Her joy at being part of all this is just effectious and she has that Peter Parker relatable quality. Yeah I was thinking about this earlier on. With the old guard of the MCU now mostly out of the picture, I think she might be my favourite character (or at least number two behind my beloved Thor).

^Agreed. The pre-credits scene of Her going all Nick Fury and trying to recruit a young avengers
felt very tacked on in that position, but the actual idea is decent. I also really liked Hailee Steinfeld's Hawkeye. Was it just me or did it feel like they'd cut a bunch of the ending out? Do you think there was some stuff with Kang or something like that? The bad guy's motivation made sense up until near the end, then when Capt Marvel had offered to save her planet, she just flipped out and decided to sacrifice herself in order to rip a big hole in space for no obvious reason.
Plus, I really thought they were going to use Capt Marvel restarting the sun to de-power her in some way. But it turned out that restarting the sun was a quick 10 second job that didn't even require breaking a sweat. Seemed underwhelming and like something was missing.
And the combination of multiverses and the incessant need for post-credit connected universe stuff meant that the one big sacrifice moment of the movie was undermined about 4 minutes later. If anyone even bought that she was actually lost for even a second.
I hope Mr Marvel and his planet survived.
It's weird that the ending of the *actual story* seemed undercooked, but they still found time for 2 credit sequences to introduce characters that you needed to (a) have watched Disney+, or (b) have a knowledge of the comics or old movies to get. My kids mostly didn't get either credit sequence, which meant the ending fell even more flat for them. But yeah, up to that point it was a blast.

Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Meh, it was fine. Kang was pretty good. Effects were alright. It felt more like Star Wars than Ant Man somehow.
6/10

My kids mostly didn't get either credit sequence, which meant the ending fell even more flat for them. But yeah, up to that point it was a blast. Agree on the spoilered stuff. Captain Marvel's solution to the issue seemed far too straightforward. You would think doing that would have some impact. And sacrifices being worthless is kind of an inherent problem when it comes to these multi-verse stories. I can't imagine many really thought Rambo closing the gate from the otherside was really going to be the last we would see of them and was always a setup for what is next, but the general point definitely does stand. The mid/post-credit sequences relying on comic knowledge has always been the case though. As non-comic book reader, I've never understood any of them (yet I still always sit through 10 minutes of credits to get to them). I actually did understand this one though! I may not have read the comics, but I certainly did watch the 90s X-Men cartoon so instantly recognised one of the characters and knew where they were.

I feel like I'm the only person who never watched that show. I mean, I know who a lot of the characters are from the movies, or general pop culture references, but the show totally passed me by. I agree that the post credit sequences have often required some comic knowledge, but a lot of them were also references to other MCU movies (like stuff with the teseract after Cap 1, etc..) But now we have comics, other non-MCU film franchises AND Disney+ shows getting referenced. It's probably not an issue unless you're sitting there with kids who won't get the references and aren't happy about sitting for 10 mins.

I also think that Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan might be standout of the recent new superheroes. Its not a packed field. She's one of the few I could pick out of a police lineup Although I am looking forward to what looks like the new Marvel Ultraman movie.

Its all on Disney+, just don’t watch the final season where they gave up on using classic comic stories and moved production to the world’s cheapest animation studio. Also the great 90s Spiderman cartoon is there too. And I suppose 90s Hulk, Iron Man and Fantastic Four as well but they were pretty bad in comparison.

90s X Men and Spiderman were great. I lean towards Spiderman but that X Men theme is burned in my brain.
You don't get 4+ series out of a kid's cartoon without being popular.
