Poorly written I agree, not sure about the dumbing down the male character though.
She’s been good in plenty of things, but rubbish in others.

I remember a side of twitter hating on her due to some interview clips with some of the Avengers cast seemingly not liking having her with them.
She's in Scott Pilgrim though and I liked Kong but that's all I can think of.
Edit forgot she's in 21 Jump Street.

What's she been good in? I found Room really, really fucking hard work and just weird. She didn't really contribute much to King Kong, to the point I forgot she was in it on each of my rewatches.

I always get her confused with Alison Brie... Can't say I've ever been blown away by anything she's in, and she's been pretty poor in a couple of things (free fire for example, although that was probably a duff script seeing as everyone was a bit shit in it)
She just seems like a bit of a ham sandwich of an actor if we want to keep the baked goods comparisons going.

I've nothing against Larson as an actor or Captain Marvel as a character. She's not my favourite, but then none of the remaining characters and actors are my favourites. So she fits right in.
She's no worse than Anthony Mackie's Cap/Falcon. Who I think is fine, but not much more than that.

I'm struggling to think of any upcoming Marvel movie or show I'd be excited about watching,
Perhaps when they finally integrate the X Men.

Was looking forward to Blade but that's got its own problems.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Larson or the female led direction. The bigger issue in that regard is that Marvel are now trying to use C and D tier characters as their franchise carrying leads with some real unknowns bulking out the roster. Even the phase one guys were Bs and B+s but they were household names at least.

Was looking forward to Blade but that's got its own problems. Same here, but it'll just suffer in comparison to the original.

The strikes came at the worst possible moment for Marvel Studios they were already having problems getting people to be bothered to go to the cinema and The Marvels definitely looks like a film that needs as big a promotional push as possible and you'd hardly know it's out on Friday.
Last night I saw the trailer in the cinema that reintroduces the characters, with clips from the original film, Wandavision and Ms Marvel, I'd seen it before The Creator but it looks like something they really should have pushed more.
I think the film will probably get slammed by film reviewers who almost certainly won't have seen the TV shows and given the short (for an MCU film) runtime it's not like there's going to be a lot of recap.

I think the trailers look fun. Its a shame everyone has decided its a dud and flop before its even out.
Capt Marvel was a fine film, Ms Marvel was one of the most fun D+ shows and a refreshing new character for the MCU, and the other one hasn’t had a chance to show what she can do as a superhero

Marvel are shoehorning in female characters at the expense of male ones? I thought they had been sidelining female characters for years. It took them 21 films to have a female led one, for Christ's sake!
One of the highlights of the End Game battle was the girl power moment, finally actually giving those characters a decent spotlight.
But, sure, we can get pissy about them shoving female characters in our faces now that they are getting a little bit closer to half of their superheroes being female.

The she's not alone moment in Infinity War was so much better. End Games just felt really forced. Scarlet had the best bit for the women in EG IMO when she was single handedly about to rip Thanos apart.

The problem is that the only one who isn’t a just a sidekick/character is so ludicrously overpowered that they had to keep her away from the story at all times.

The power swap thingy in The Marvels is a good way to get around the OP nature of Captain Marvel. Trailers look fine.
Gave up on Loki, Secret Invation & Ms. Marvel after two episodes for each one. Quality has been terrible imo.

I am looking forward to it. I am not that familiar with much of Larsons work, but Lessons in Chemistry is a stand out show, and she shines.

I just watched Dan Murrells review. ‘An unmitigated disaster…. the lowest point of the MCU so far….. I’m not sure how it recovers from this’. I don’t think he liked it. youtu.be/XfZSKE9n9UM?si=u59C3091eVu37a7h

Empire review is very, very positive. I'm not too surprised it's got a decent review from Empire and as it's Helen O'Hara rather than someone who gets a tad overexcitable like Ben Travis it's probably a reasonable review. Off to see it on Friday afternoon so I'll see if I agree with her.
There's a small dig at Secret Invasion in the review, everyone at Empire hated that.

Dan mentions Secret Invasion, saying that Fury being basically two completely different characters between the show and this movie highlights the lack of care and planning involved in the whole franchise.

the multiverse could be a convenient way to erase mistakes like Secret Invasion, just say it was set in a different one and wipe their hands of it

Does he know about Eternals? That’s literally the first thing I thought. It’s a really big claim when that’s out there and already wiped from existence.

Maybe the TVA will prune Secret Invasion out of existence so we never have to think about it again.

Maybe the TVA will prune Secret Invasion out of existence so we never have to think about it again. I'm choosing to believe Secret Invasion occurs in a different universe until proven otherwise. One where all the superhero stuff is a bit pants. Maybe it's the Venom universe.
