Any experience with them? I'm especially in the data and privacy implications. I'm not technical enough to deal with routers etc., but I know I'm not comfortable with the idea of being record or monitored.
I've had a Ring 3 delivered, but I'm feeling a bit of doubt about it for those reasons. I've ready that Eufy has local storage, but might be sending data through China. Arlo, according to Mozilla a couple of years ago, has a good attitude to privacy but another website says it could be better. Plus you have to subscribe if you want to keep your rcordings.

put a Ring (2 I think) in for my mother last year but had, have, similar concerns. It was easy, she lives several hundred miles away, just needed something quick that would work. In the US amazon seem to have carte blanche to give doorbell streams to the police and whoever they damn well please without input from the owner, in the EU i'm perhaps naively expecting local regulation protects privacy a little better, and in the UK i'm perhaps naively expecting the same regulation protects until the brexit nutters decide that's another right we little people don't deserve. Life outside the EU data protection framework comes at you pretty fast. anyway, there was some discussion of various option in the DIY thread from last year that might help, I'll try to dig out a link

Honestly if you carry a smartphone you really don't need to worry about anything with recordings.

Frog, that's a fair point.
Mini,
Thanks for the post. I followed the link and did some thinking, deciding to stay with Ring. Mainly taht's because it was already ehre, but also because there was no clear alternative that didn't have problems. (There was a French company, but it was expensive and had to be wired in.)
As I set theRing up I refused it access to my photos and also used all the Apple privacy settings I could. Best we can do, I think - apart from not have a smartdoorbell at all.

We just installed one and I really get anxious from it. I don’t want to know what murderers are coming to my doorstep only to be thwarted by a locked door.
Something entertaining happened today though. A chap posted something through my door and noticed I had a Legend of Zelda “You Need a Boss Key to Enter Here” doormat. He looked at the camera and said “That’s fucking dope” and walked away whistling the Zelda theme tune.
