2 questions though 1) do you guys play as survivors or demons? 2) how do you select which demon you want to be? 1) I'll play as survivor or demon. I mainly play demon when I'm on my own though just because I only have myself to blame if I lose I have all the demons maxed out and about 7 or 8 survivors at max level, so I'm good to play pretty much any role (though I have less experience in some than others!) 2) When you join a game as a demon (Evil Vs Player) you get the demon selection screen. You can also try them all out in the tutorial. Check out the demons abilities and talent trees by going into Collection from the main menu and pressing R1 to highlight the demons page. Sadly, you cannot play as a demon vs AI survivors.

Amazing. I'm loving every bit of info I receive!
Well, I'm firing it up in about 30 minutes, but I'm a noob and it'll take me 56 years to sort it

It’s £25 in the sale which is more than I wanted. Maybe if you keep posting how great it is I’ll cave. Do you play with comms?

I probably would do, despite the fact I'm never normally keen. It's fast paced enough I think that it would really help.
Yeah I know that's the trouble. It's a fair price to take a punt on something you're not sure about.
It's the kind of thing though where it would be nice to get something semi-regular going to grab a couple of 20 - 30 minute games a week.

So I had a go single player, selected "classic" Ash and had a whizz about. Seems fairly straightforward - left trigger for aiming the gun, R1 to melee things in the face. I like the R3 critical combo too, that's fun and over the top.
I only really pottered about and followed the signs to get the pages and the kandarian dagger - killed the end boss things, and I think that was that - had to turn it off then. But it plays well, quite responsive.
So, I'll keep playing and see if I can get used to it all.
Got a gig on Saturday, so can play this wed/thurs and then it'll be sunday before I'm back on again, but maybe wed/thurs can sort something to get used to multiplayer

Yeah the actual gameplay isn't too demanding which helps my sinple brain. R1 & R2 for light / heavy melee. L2 and R2 to shoot. R3 for a finisher etc. Did you figure out that you can upgrade by collecting the pink stuff from stashes? I presume so but in case you missed it, once you've picked up some bottles, down on your d-pad will let you upgrade your character. This is a seperate upgrade from the main one and it only counts for the game you're in. You can increase your damage, fear resistance, stamina, shield etc.

Ah yeah, I did do all that too - I managed to work out how to upgrade via the dpad, and whacked everything up (didn't realise it was just for that game only, but hey ho), and also swapped out a few weapons from various chests. Ended up with a rifle, and a sort of super sledgehammer for the majority.
The bit that took me the longest to figure out was how to use the kandarian dagger. It was constantly saying, "USE THE KANDARIAN DAGGER" on the screen while I was flailing around with the boss, and took me ages for some reason to finally press triangle to use the dagger's magic attack. I'm sure that wasn't explained, but I was pissed and stoned, so it probably did explain.
When you say it's a separate upgrade from the main one, what's the main one? Assume that is a permanent upgrade and the pink things just give you a boost in the game you're in?

Ha yeah, the triangle is fairly hard to miss but the prompt appears in the middle of the dark ones. The main one is where you use your XP from "proper" multiplayer games (as far as I can tell any of the modes where there are actual other people in them will give you XP). Then you go to Collections and into the character you want to level up, and apply it there. It actually gives you two forms of XP. One lot will be applied directly to the character you have been using, which you'll see in the bottom right. Every level will grant you a skill point. The other XP wil be applied to your profile, which you'll see in the TOP right. What it doesn't tell you (or I missed, and only figured out after a few games) is that you can essentially "download" that XP in whatever character you want, and apply additional XP to that character. So for example, I was Mia for a few games and levelled her one or two levels, getting me a couple of skill points. I then realised that by holding down R1 (I think, it tells you on the controller prompts at the bottom of the characer skill screen), I could put all the XP I had gained on my profile (or as much as I wanted to allocate) into Mia as well, which actually got me another three levels for her.
But yes, there's also a temporary in-game set of skills/XP, which is why you need the pink bottles. It's just another way of powering up your character for the later encounters and giving you more reason to explore. Weapons, matches, amulets, Shemps and also skill points. Basically.

Ok, I think I get most of that, but I'll have to play more to get it to sink in.
Pity you can only get XP from human games, but I suppose that's fair I guess.
I just selected the first gameplay option - so I was on my own in the game against AI monsters.
So if I start a multiplayer game, against AI monsters, but I'm the only human in it and give it a go regardless, are you saying I won't get XP until other humans join the game, either as players or a demon?

So you can only join a game with humans or not, if you know what I mean. You can't start a game completely against ai and then folk will join. You either select ai survivors against ai demon, human survivors (you and 3 others) against ai demon, demon (you - human) against human survivors, or human survivors against human demon.
You won't get XP from the exploration mode (which is the first oiption), the missions (second I think) or, like I say, the one that's you and ai vs ai.
The easiest way to get XP that I've found is you and three other humans against an ai demon. It's still hard, but it's more forgiving. I've not been in a game yet that we haven't won.

Tell you what though. The missions are fucking difficult. Not been able to finish one yet. Very unforgiving as well. You die, you start from scratch.

Right, so what we probably need to start doing is do multiple humans against a demon AI to start with? At least to get to grips with it. Zyrr's writeup sounds like quite a lot of shit goes on and things get triggered quite a lot by the sounds of it.
So how does the skills thing work then? The classic Ash I chose was in the support class, but all I did was hit things in the face?

So you'll be suited to better things. Bottom left on the character selection screen you can see your characters rating for things like melee, fear etc. Warriors are best for melee, support are better at keeping out the way and healing team mates etc. You'll probably need to look more in deapth at each characters skills to see what's best. They also each have a special skill that you use by pressing O. Mia for example, when I activate hers, her fear level constantly rises, but she cannot get possessed. once the duration of her skill is done, her fear level drops by how many deadites she's killed. The kicker with her, is that she also has a passive that means the higher her fear level, the more damage she does. Level 25 for her, she will do more damage with machete's. So all the characters are uniqe. Yes. You can always, and will always smash deadites in teh face, but there's a lot more you can take advantage of depending on who you go. hunters for example have weaker melee, but do more gun damage.

Right, ok that makes sense, and cool that it's mainly stuff in the background that you just compliment with the right playstyle, instead of a million buttons to heal people etc. I can't even remember how to get into the character creation screen

I'll definitely try to make some time to be around for a regular game or two. What we can also do for starters - even if we only have 3 of us - is start a private game, with 2 as survivors and 1 as demon. I'd be happy to play demon in a sort of 'advanced training mode' and just talk you through what's going on and when to do what, show what the enemies can do, how to spot traps, fight avoidance, etc.

Saber are applying the latest update, which means the game (even solo play) will be unavailable until tomorrow (the 27th).
The servers have never been down for this long before, so they must be doing some serious server-side updates, maybe? Hope they're doing something about the growing number of cheating PC players.

Also, this game is cross-platform with a built-in friends list, so if any Xbox or PC folks want to get in on the action, you can! And yeah, the missions are fucking rock hard. Some of them took me AGES - I still haven't completed some of those that only reward cosmetics as I just couldn't be fucked retrying them over and over. I'll get round to them at some point, though. I highly recommend finding a guide on YouTube to at least get you through the missions that unlock playable characters, then never doing them again!
