I have a feeling this will be the announcement of the SH2 remake, as I believe that it's the project that's furthest along, if those leaks a few weeks back of footage were anything to go by. That's where the "restless dreams" quote is from - unless I'm mistaken and it was also in SH1? I may be (and probably am) completely wrong on all counts of course.
Like the rest of you, I eagerly await an announcement of a free to play pachinko inspired Silent Hill Metal Gear cross-over for iOS and Android.

Yeah, that line is from SH2, it's from Mary's letter to James.

SH2 is without doubt one of my favourite games of all time (as is SH1, tbf, but for different reasons). I still have my copy and it's the main reason I still have my dusty PS2; still play it through once every year or so, though mainly via emulator these days. It's a genuine classic.
That being said, I'll be honest, I wouldn't be surprised to see a remake not go down particularly well with a new generation of players, especially those unfamiliar with the actual gameplay/mechanics of the original (as opposed to its cultural impact, legacy, etc.). It is a surprisingly easy game, both in terms of its combat and puzzles, even on the most difficult of settings; and it also has very few 'boss' encounters, all of which are very straight-forward. The game's brilliance is pretty much all in the narrative (and its ambiguity), atmosphere, and locations, which are all amplified by the overall sense of silence and loneliness. Got a bad feeling we'll see a lot of complaints about a 'lack of action', unless they drastically change things or ramp up the enemy count/interactions, which would risk ruining the game in other respects. Hope I'm wrong, but I'm a little apprehensive of it.
Truth be told, a simple HD remaster of SH1/2 would be preferable for me, and then some new titles coming down the line.

On the other hand, there have been a few well received so-called "walking simulators". But those aren't big releases from Konami...
The isolation and sense of impending dread is very important to Silent Hill, especially 2.
I mean that fucking lake is creepy but literally nothing happens. Pretty much guarantee they'll ruin it by sticking in some stupid boss fight.
Or the sections where you're just descending down a corridor for an unnatural length of time. It's important.
Turning the game into a relentless gauntlet or tuned with high difficulty would be terrible.

Yup. The descent down to the prison, as well, is literally just empty rooms and corridors one after the other. Nothing much happens, but it really does build a sense of dread/foreboding, whilst also bringing into question James' psyche and the fucked-up geography/topography of the place. I remember when you get down there, and meet Eddie brandishing the gun in the prison mess hall, properly ramming home just how insane everything felt.
Tangent: I really enjoyed The Medium, which had little to no combat at all, but I suspect its wider lukewarm reception may well be the sort of thing we see here, too. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Yeah, there's lots of very strange rooms down there. Like the ones where the gravity flips, and that really odd room with loads of save points all over one wall. It's just all fucked up, and you really feel like you're stuck down there in the middle of all the insanity.
Fucking love it.

Yeah if there's a remake there's a lot of the core game it really should contain, but I have a feeling that if it's helmed by BT, then it will do. I've always loved their games for subverting your preconceptions of reality and I expect them to do much the same here with the more outthere areas.

Only thing in SH2 that needs changing is the voice acting.

Only thing in SH2 that needs changing is the voice acting. They already did that with the Re-release. Could be me speaking as a fan of the original, but Troy Baker as James does not guarantee quality. The original reading of the letter too is already perfect. If it is Blooper than doing it, its not just combat you would need to worry about but any rumoured new ending they could add could be a really bad interpretation. The Medium is already a borderline offensive take on being a victim of child abuse.

The voice acting in 2 is a bit hit and miss. Sometimes it works well, but other times it's a bit flat...
Weirdly though, and I don't think it's intentional, but it could actually add to the otherworldlyness, just all feeling a bit off.

I don't want a new cast - it's just as the post above states, there's a weird 'flatness' to a lot of it that doesn't add anything to the game for me and seems far to relaxed for what's happening in the game. Angela's VO is a prime example - it's all over the place.

Always thought the jarring voice acting was intentional and added to the dream like weirdness of it
I'm not a fan of Blooper Team doing this at all but seem to be in a minority. They're very gimmicky and unoriginal

Jess from Giantbomb was talking on the Bombcast about Konami accidentally tweeting or liking a pic that had Bloober teams Silent Hill 2 Part 1 at the bottom of it or something like that. Wasn't fully listening at the start.

Splitting in two parts a game that was originally like 7 hours long sounds like a great idea.
