I agree, but there are some exceptions - Soul Reaver being one. The script is incredibly overwrought (which is part of its charm, I guess) but the main cast just lean into it so hard it works. From SR2 (you only need to listen to the first 30 seconds or so):

Mental. The original voice acting and cutscene are way better. It's stilted, yes, but that adds to the surreal feeling of the whole thing, like a David Lynch film
It's pretty much what I expected of the remake- making everything normal and boring
Also, Maria is suppose to be sexy, that's literally the point. If you don't feel like knocking one out whenever she's on screen, they've fucked it

If Kojima was a game developer wanting to make films, David Lynch is a Director that wants to make 90s Video Games.

It might have accidentally evoked Lynch but I just don't think the stilted voice acting was an intentional choice.
I do think there's a few bits of animation in the original cut scene that work better.

Intentional or not, it still adds immensely to the atmosphere. Plenty of great things come from happy accidents or limitations and are extremely difficult to recapture
I guess they solved that by not even trying

Nah. That was a David Lynch fan. One of those fans that think Lynch is peak art and that their extensive knowledge of him makes them an elite film critic and creator of art.

A lot of people eating their own words. I’ve seen even recently on hotukdeals saying it’ll be shit. Beautiful.

Signs are so good that blood has flowed into places it has not flowed into in years. Is it wrong to be aroused by a Silent Hill game?
No need to answer. Let's just move on.

By making you engorge it feeds into the psychosexual nature of Silent Hill 2s themes.

Only two days until I can finally play it. To be fair I never actually expected it to review this well. I thought it would be a solid 7 across the board but knew I'd still like it as I've liked most of Bloober's output and it's, well, Silent Hill 2 innit. But crikey it looks like they've surpassed themselves here.

Pleasantly surprised about the scores for this and the uptick of output from Bloober. Good for them!
I’ve never played more than demos for both SH 1&2, so this has gone from “probably not” to “looks like a great Halloween game”!

I just always assumed that everyone must have played Silent Hill 2. Yet there's comments everywhere from gamers that have never played it (and not just because they were too young / not born). If this means more people get to experience what is one of the most depressing / surreal / melancholy / terrifying / claustrophobic / iconic games ever in a modern format then that's just a win all round.

Yeah, add me to the list. Played the original back in the day, then for whatever reason skipped 2 completely and didn't play another one until 3 launched on the PC.
Absolutely no idea why I've never bothered trying it. It's probably been spoiled numerous times over the years, but I've got a shit memory.

One of the reasons I love 2 the most is that it doesn't have any of the more sillier elements that plague the other SH games. Not that they are ever RE levels of silly, but I just never get on board with certain horror tropes and I always feel they're out of place in SH. 2 is just a fucking masterpiece on every level. Still one of the most harrowing, nuanced and layered narratives not just in horror gaming, but gaming in general. There's a reason it was always held in such high regard.
Genuinely hope all you chaps coming to it for the first time in the form of what looks to be a fucking excellent remake enjoy it. It's only SH2 and Soma that I still think about randomly.
I'll shut up now as I'm frothing and gushing.

I played and completed it back when it came out but as I was just a stupid 17 year old (actually I'm still just as stupid) I did not appreciate the nuance of the plot so looking forward to revisiting after all this time.
