Anyone use this? Was considering sticking a lamp behind my TV but then though.
For now I might get a Hue Play Bar, I know it's pretty expensive but also super-versatile (I already have a Hue Hub) and I can try it out on the PC and TV (as well as around the house as a lamp), and if I like it will get a more purpose-made bias light to permanently sit behind the TV (like Medialight).

I have Hue bulbs in old lamps sitting behind my front speakers, but not through a Play Sync Box which is what's needed if you want the lights to adjust to the on screen content. It's just for some ambient lighting which won't cast on the screen.
I personally like gaming and watching films in total darkness, but my partner prefers some light so we often have those lights on a low orange so we aren't in total darkness. There's a white wall and blind behind the TV and it works well from a lighting perspective.
If you already have hue bulbs, you could try just sticking them in some lamps and putting them behind your TV and see how you like it.

I've got a Hue light strip across the back of my tv cabinet. Obviously I have to adjust it manually but I refuse to pay the extortionate price for a Sync Box.

I’ve used USB powered LED strips, can buy by length and even trim if needed. Adhesive backed, you can just run then along the back of the TV and choose a low light level and colour. Not sophisticated, but cheap as chips.

Can be made by yourself for pretty cheap.

I love bias lighting and got a bit hooked on it via a Philips TV a decade ago. It can definitely help your perception of blacks and colours.
I have 3 hue play bars behind mine, which is overkill as I only ever set them to shades of white manually. It is quite nice to have the colour temp option though. Technically you want neutral white for films and absolute accuracy, but warm whites are nicer for more casual viewing.
I did love the full ambilight experience when I had it but the lack of upgradability of the sync box has put me off. It's an expensive bottle neck for your hdmi signals.

I prefer neutral, objective lighting myself.

I'd like to recommend a specific make, but that would be showing bias.
