Why Christmas in September? Because Mince pies are out in Costco, 9 for £4.99.
I like them but it just feels very early to even consider selling these yet let alone eat one and we still have the shite that is Halloween to come.

Halloween is a good excuse to watch certain films at least.
Who needs mince pies in October, nevermind September?

I love Halloween (the holiday *and* the movie franchise).
I think I've made my pro-mince pies stance clear elsewhere, so I'll say no more on that front.

They were putting street lighting up on Oxford street when I was there an hour ago.

I like Christmas, but just ignore the commercial and religious aspects. Get a few days off with and can see family - not the wider family, just immediate family - and drink whisky and beer. It's the only holiday that's actually a holiday.
I also like mince pies and twinkly lights.
Halloween is just a non-event for me, never really did anything for it. The only Halloween I remember was when BBC put Ghostwatch on, which was pretty decent.

If you like Halloween, move to Blackpool as it's celebrated there every day.

I like booking three days off work and getting loads of time off. Or on the flipside, I like being in work when no other cunt is in so that I can work through my backlog without interruption (or just put my feet up)
The rest of Christmas can fuck right off!

I have my advent calendar already.
It has a dram of whisky behind each of the doors.

I'm all for Christmas. Long time off work (normally work right up until Christmas and then take the next 2 weeks off), lots of food, silly decorations, and an excuse to enjoy cheesy music and classic films. However, I try to confine Christmas to December. Anything outside of that gets too much before you even reach the day itself.
I've also made a note this year to make sure I pick up the Exit advent calendar, which I recall a few people here mentioning last year. Should be nice to have a daily little puzzle.
Halloween I can take or leave. It has never been something I've ever done anything for, besides an excuse to get drunk during young adulthood. I normally stick on a scary film and the cinemas often show some classic horror around that time, which is welcome. It is also not a bad excuse to buy some sweets, under the guise of them being for the trick or treaters that never appear.

I still take Christmas as the traditional 12 days, starting *from* Christmas Day.
To be fair, I can understand why people might find the run up shit, as it is overly commercial and a bit cynical. But I just ignore most of the commercial run up.
Equally, having Christmas be this *one day* just means it'll be inevitably dissapointing as expectations are to high. Fuck that (incidentally it's why I never gave a shit about new year's Eve. Too much emphasis on making this one night REALLY SPECIAL when really it just means crowded pubs and being over charged for drink).
Spreading the enjoyment over several days means it's less likely to be dissapointing.

Christmas isn't all bad. I bought a selection box yesterday for £1.09 because it had a full sized Twix and I was going to buy a Twix anyway for 89p so was actually a bit of a bargain.

Christmas is still a nice evening with the family with good food and some presents, even though I used to care about the latter way more. Now it's more about putting them below the tree and there's still some curiosity for what the rest of the family have thought up. Usually it's about as inspired as whatever I'm gifting them. I'm rarely having any even slightly original ideas anymore. Advent used to be a nice atmospheric run-up to Christmas Eve, progressively lighting the candles on the wreath week to week, but nowadays me and my sister mostly miss that part of the year. We also used to have an advent calendar, usually with chocolate. Outside of the family I barely notice it at all. Maybe I'll walk through some Christmas market at some point and there usually will be some tasteful Christmas decorations in the more busy streets like in the Mariahilfer. And Halloween? Well, I don't care about it at all except of course that there'll probably be a Steam sale. But it's mostly just an imported thing that - as opposed to Christmas - had nothing to do with my childhood.

I was just taking a look at these, the 2022 (The Hunt for the Golden Book, seems like Germany had this one last year) one is available at various places online. For anyone who has tried one, are any of the puzzles suitable for a 10 year old (and even our 7 year old)? Appreciate that most puzzles me and the wife will do, but it'd be fun if they could at least help with some!

As I was leaving the Tesco that I pop into on the way to the office, it dawned on me that they may have been playing "Santa baby" on the p.a.
I mean I like Christmas, but I hope that's an aberration and that we aren't playing Christmas songs yet.
