Why havent physics, fluid dynamics and destruction progressed yet we're still endlessly chasing the shiney.
I would love to be able to molatov a building and the fucker actually burns down realistically to root the enemy out.
Or blow massive fuck off holes in walls and level buildings.
Red faction was probably the closest with this wasn't it and that was eons ago

Two stage bosses with an easy ‘ah ha! You thought that was it!?!’ first phase.
If I’ve beaten stage one ten times, give me a part on the head and let me just crack on with the actual boss.

Side note, I really appreciated that the newest God of War gives you midboss checkpoints, and that you respawn with full health ready to go. But also that you can turn that off and do the full fight in one shot every time if you wanted. Elden Ring stuff aside, the accessibility options this gen have been fantastic, not just for disability stuff but also just letting you enjoy a game with difficulty tweaks beyond just “now the enemies have less health”.

Bad Company did it quite well IIRC. I would possibly sell my child for a new bad company. The last couple of Battlefield games have been pretty iffy though, so not sure how that'd go. I loved bfbc & bfbc2 so much.

Missable trophies/achievements that require a fresh run of the game need to fuck right off.

Not as bad as online achievements that can be locked off is servers go down.

Something I've found annoying recently are games downloading DLC as if it's a patch and then displaying it in game but gated off

Oh absolutely. The only people that benefits are people that already bought the Ultimate Edition or Season Pass. For everyone else, it just creates unnecessary bloat on your drive.

Its all sliders in Rollerdrome Damage you take Damage you deal Speed Ammo collection Needing achievements to progress and some other stuff can all be adjusted separately to customise the level and type of difficulty. Its such a cool way of doing it.

Ive used 'hold' rather than tap to win in every game its ever been available in but the auto-scavenge resource toggle has been way, way, way overdue.

Guess we're just so used to it now we don't think about it

Plus if I’m honest the kinds of games that pull microtransactiony lootbox type moves just aren’t the types of games I buy, so preorder bonuses are my only real contact with most of that stuff now.
I can pretend its a moral stance but I’m also such a strictly singleplayer only kind of guy it really takes zero effort.

Not expecting much from it otherwise, but the destruction should still be worth a few hours.

Gaining an ability that can open up new areas in previously visited locations but with no steer towards where they might be - not even a world or local map in the case of Death’s Door.

Having to find/buy quality of life features (Hollow Knight: the ability to set map markers, Mega Man: auto-distribution of ammo pickups to unselected weapons, Fallout 4: shared stash between settlements). Making you work towards upgrades, new abilities etc. is good game design. Programming an arbitrary annoyance into the game and making you work towards getting rid of it is not.
In the case of Fallout 4, thank God for mods.

Sequels that take moves you had/learned away. Especially if you have to relearn them.

Ah yeah, that's been a pet peeve of mine. Auto collect in Neir Automata is another one. Takes bloody ages to unlock!

Don't you also have to unlock saving your game in Nier Automata? Hm

Not so much a mechanic as a design choice akin to a fashion trend, but if devs could stop making areas that look like the fucking Giants' Causeway, that would be nice.

Since I’m busy reading reviews of that Atari 50 collection and wondering if its one.
Retro gaming collections on modern consoles that don’t have the option for infinite lives/continues. Mainly because I’m shite at games but also because this isn’t the arcades down Metroland
