Not really a game mechanic as such, but related, but launchers. Why does every fucking company want a launcher. I don't mind have a single list, like Steam, but then clicking play launches some motherfucker launcher. Just makes starting games tedious.

Shopkeepers/blacksmithes/level-up maidens/etc blathering the same shit every time you visit them, so you have to button-spam through the same "dialogue" literally hundreds of times. So fucking annoying.
There are so many ways this could be avoided, I think the best way would be to have two interact buttons, one for chatting and one for shopping/upgrading/whatever.
But it seems like developers don't even want to avoid it and the way it is is actually intended for some stupid reason. God, why?

Yeah, Fallout New Vegas had a similar problem with people constantly repeating their reactions to the player's questing. Especially annoying because their lines before many quests have been done are very limited in number. They also keep reacting while some dramatic story is happening. Makes them seem like Zombies at times.
And some games have narration that just starts repeating once it is finished. The Skein in Mask of the Betrayer had something like that. Nicely written and good voice-acting and then it just starts looping.
I don't get it. It would be so simple to fix and avoid a really annoying immersion-breaker.

Collectibles and/or pick ups that you have to chase. Looking at you Psychonauts.
Its fun and in keeping with the world and far more of a PS1 or 2 thing than a current one but it does stop being cute pretty quickly. Especially if one of those pick-ups is health and you’re in a boss fight before you can afford whatever upgrade makes items suck toward you.

So fucking annoying. Ive just finished Midnight Suns and, yeah, it forces you to visit the same two merchants every day (Blade and Iron Man) and they have four lines of dialogue between them. 'Welcome to Tonys scary demon cave' GET FUCKED, TONY

I want to play Midnight Suns for the combat but the shity sims/social crap really puts me off (and its major part of the game if you want upgrades iirc). Shame the devs outsourced that part

Quite amazing that had the audacity to re-use the map from the first game, but only to turn the game into a huge collectathon. As if they forgot to put it collectibles before and had to make up for it. That would be like if Tears of the Kingdom just had 3000 Korok seeds and nothing else.

Felt like it should have just been a DLC pack cashing in on zombie games becoming popular.
