Mismatched loot icons. Unless I was supposed to have ripped a mask off Bodyas' face, Scooby Doo villain style, and found a completely different alien underneath. "It was the guy from the cover of Queens' "News Of The World" all along!"

Exploding enemies are cheap tired game design trope. (they will always spawn and spam them in close to the player) Its like in zombie games, the designers have go to of exploding one, one that is large bullet sponge, screamer and fast one.
Also gave up on Ni no Kun 2, as the level grinding has become a joke in terms of levels you need to get to in chapter 6 but just as bad is the kingdom mechanic where you need to research upgrades on timer like in p2p game (some are like hours), add in the pitiful amount of ingame gold you get. Shame they didn't fix any of these in the xbox one "remaster"

All iterations of exploding enemies that I have encountered - as far as I can remember - are either harmless or they mix up enemy variety a bit. Though I guess it can be a bit annoying when it's just part of the standard roster in yet another Zombie game.
I think the Acidstealers in Deathwing add a bit of variety and other than that I'm mostly indifferent towards them. Though I vaguely recall that there was some kind of suicider type enemy towards the very end of Metro 2033 and that was one of the more annoying sections in the game.

There's those Painted World enemies in Dark Souls that explode and infect you with toxic when they die. They are annoying

Yeah, exploding ones are really annoying. Especially when they spam you with them doing one of those "Hold off waves of enemies while the lift slowly descends" sections.

Last night I climbed a big mountain using a series of incredulously long ladders in Elden Ring. I eventually got to the top and was immediately punted off the cliff by a large irate moon cow, dying instantly of a combination of surprise, anger and distance-related impact.
This sort of thing needs to stop.

I may have mentioned this before, can't recall, but "survival" mechanics that see your character getting hungry / thirsty unnaturally fast.
I get that it's hard to simulate hunger on a realistic time scale, but some games it feels like the character can't go 10 minutes without eating Before they starve to death.
Can just make some survival games feel less like a test of, well, survival and more like a supermarket dash running around frantically throwing food into not a trolley, but your gullet.

Hate's a bit strong, but with concessions to the thread format: I hate voiced protagonists in story-driven games with a character creator. All of the voice options inevitably sound wrong.
If I've created the character, I have some idea of what they sound like and how they'd deliver the line before I select a dialogue option. More often than not, the intonation won't be how a voice actor actually read it and it spoils the immersion. Plus it inevitably cuts down on the dialogue freedom thanks to the cost of all that voice work.
If studios want to voice all the protagonist's lines to get a particular cinematic feel, go the whole hog and prescribe the whole character.
Was playing Cyberpunk last night and whilst the voice acting is good, it's still immersion-breaking. I've always felt like I'm not V, I'm just watching what V's doing.

Just change your actual voice to match the character in whichever game you're playing, it's what I do.
I have to WFH when I'm playing Sonic games.

Cyberpunk’s like the one game where the main character kind of has my accent, so I actually don’t mind it there.
I don’t talk like I’m always holding in a poo though. Except for the times that I am, of course.

I think female V's voice acting is fucking incredible. It totally immersed me into the game.

I dont want my playable characters to be me. I'd make a terrible protagonist.

I sometimes do.
But when I don't - and that's usually when it's a game that'll demand me to make dubious moral choices - I play as a character derived from our female cat, who is a capricious little sod with no moral scruples.

You know, I completely forgot the cyberpunk expansion is out next month. This September onwards is going to be quite brutal on my wallet.

I don't mind a story mode in racing games, forza MS games have got gotten really samey with the "now we are going back to this track again for the hundreth time) As long as its good story mode then its not a problem
Playing everspace 2 right now and the fact they stretched out the game with rpg levels, they just ramp the levels on main missions forcing you to grind out side missions. Its not optional if you have to side missions. Its like AC odyssey but ubisoft sold you XP boosters to a problem they put into the game. Ages ago on some sub gaming forum of cycling forum I use to post on, some man child when full on manchild on me as I mentioned the grinding. He said he "put 100 hours into the game and never had to grind once!" I could put out it was hundred hours and it was not even finished the game but he seemed quite deranged in his love for the game. The fact is AC Ody. and everspace 2 don't have the quality content for doing these side missions. Its like a shit and cheap food buffet, yeah there is a lot of "content" but its not quality

Have we done unskippable / unspeedupable end credits yet?
I know they probably all worked very hard and lost so much quality time with their families to the crunch but come ooon, you expect me to sit through 10-20 minutes of this shit?!

Not nearly as much of a problem as unskippable cutscenes in general imo, now that can get to fuck. Especially if they make a remaster/remake of the game... And they're still unskippable!!! *side-eyes the FFX HD remaster*
Credits though... Nah, I don't mind. They're (usually) a one-time thing, have nice music, maybe some stills from the game to reminisce, chances are you're still processing the final boss/ending/whatever anyway and most likely you can just walk away if you really can't be arsed. Even if there is a post-credits scene you can catch it somewhere else afterwards

Oh no, I’m with simple 1000%. I hate end credits, so unskippable AND 45 minutes long? GTFO. I’ll take a cutscene over credits any day.
Matter of fact, there are some games where the end credits are viewable from the options menu. All games should remove them from the actual ending and just make them optional. That way you can list every caterer that gets sad because they don’t see their name, but I don’t have to sit through them.

On that point, why do the credits have to include everyone at the company, not just those who created the game. I don't care who the head of HR is!
Also, listing the names of babies or pets... fuck off with that self-indulgent shit.

Are there games with non skippable end credits? I think the first Watch Dogs was one offender.

Didn't Deus Ex have 20+ minutes of Unskippable end credits?

I for one enjoyed the end credits (IIRC skippable) of Saints Row 3 with photos of the devs. But I enjoyed the game as well so it was nice to actually see the people that made it. Also, LOL at "unskippable" credits. You always can walk away from the PC/console, no?
EDIT: As for the thread title, in RPGs I usually play as a female character named SexyBitch. I hate when games censor and don't allow me such name.

I know but sometimes there’s unlockable stuff or post-credit stuff so you can’t completely wander off and do the dishes or watch something else

I’ve known games that don’t actually acknowledged you’ve completed it unless you’ve waited for the unskippable credits to end.
Also “you can always just walk away” is a solution to everything in this thread but also not really.

I think some of them could do with scrolling a bit faster. It's obviously conditioning from films but a decent credit sequence does feel like a proper end to proceedings. Time for a bit of reflection. It'd feel a bit hollow just being bumped straight to the title screen after the ending
What is quite annoying are credits for remasters where you think you're done and then, oh no, now we're doing the original credits as well

The game I finished last night is a title I’ve had downloaded for ages but the studio was recently bought out and new extended 2023 credits patched onto it to include new employees who weren’t around first time but are part of the team who’ve developed the sequel under the new owners.
Also, its got an NG+ so you need to finish it to get back around to the title screen or else do the final section of its single continuous save again.
