I'd be lying if I said I gave much of a shit to be honest. It's clear at this point that every super rich organisation is just a different shade of evil.

Hmm, I think the Saudis are a few levels above. Can't blame many Newcastle fans being so desperate to be rid of Ashley that they'd welcome this. It's very sad that that is the state of things there.
Sure there were United fans who were getting giddy about rumours a year or two ago and comparatively we've not got anything to gripe about.

What I don't wish for is non Newcastle fans telling us what's best for the fucking car crash that is our club Well, obviously what's best for you is to have lovely pictures of Salman bin Abdulaziz all around St. James'. That'll be sure to make you feel much better. Also who gives a shit what’s best for Newcastle. It’s the disgusting sports washing by human rights abusers most folks are concerned about, not if Steve Bruce gets to manage Mbappe.

Yeah, fully understand how they'd feel. At the end of the day someone will be running the club and it isn't really something they can control or be judged on.
I'm in no position to judge, anyway. I've worked under one of those lovely portraits I mentioned.

I mean I didn’t even mean it as anything against Newcastle, more why would anyone apart from their own fans give a shit about what’s best for a clubs on the field fortunes. I’d be saying the same if it was Everton or Fulham or other random club who hasn’t won anything in decades. And pretty sure I’ve mentioned my disgust at the Ronaldo rape case in here before. If you want me to bring it up every time he scores it could be a long season.

Well, I feel pretty stupid for assuming the 'fit and proper' ownership rules would be sufficient to exclude AN ACTUAL MURDERER from buying a British football club.
Begs the question as to where exactly is the line? Could a fund containing 80% North Korean public money and with Kim Jong-un as chairman buy Sunderland? Logically he has to be assumed innocent until he appears in court. Even if he's guilty, the precedent is now set so that we'd have to consider a North Korean fund independent of its own supreme leader, no, sorry, I mean chairman.
I don't blame Newcastle fans for being excited, because they've suffered more than most, and you now need a billionaire owner just to compete. However the degree of congitive dissonance required is off the scale. If they had bought my club I'm not saying I'd be able to just suddenly stop supporting my team either. That's what makes all this so insidious and horrible. I don't know how we fix football now, it's too far gone.
Imagine how incredulous we'd have been in the early 90s if someone had predicted this is what the premiership looked like in 2021.

With the amount of piss arsing about it's taken for this deal to go through, I can only assume knowing nothing about the buyer that he's like that Arab guy in one of the GTA 4 expansions with the gold helicopter and his own theme tune.

Never mind North Korea, Sunderland were the club that sheltered an actual paedophile and continued to play him and use him in their marketing while fans chanted “he shags who wants, he shags who wants, Adam Johnson he shags who he wants”
Football has absolute toilet morals when there’s something to be gained on the pitch

We live in a world where Man City have been unironically framed as saviours to borderline prisoner Harry Kane all fucking summer. I really don't think we're in a position to start clutching our pearls about anyone else fancying some piss easy PR over here when we've been so welcoming of the first set.

"He has whoever he wants hacked up with a bone saw and the pieces incinerated" doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

This is very much the modern problem though isn't it, not just football. There are so many morally bankrupt and ethically grey things happening constantly that people increasingly accept every increasing escalations as the new normal. Most of these issues are complex and people understandably find comfort in superficial whataboutery that reduces the inherent complexity down to 'all bad stuff is equally bad'. Obviously it's not.
Not having a go at anyone here, it's just quite sad that no ones really outraged by actually outrageous stuff any more. We're all so jaded and it's understandable but it does create a culture where people in power can basically get away with anything.

Excellent that. I've been thinking of binning the whole thing personally. It's fans that are consumers, might be time to vote with wallets. Like he says, I don't begrudge Toon fans at all. Mike Ashley would murder half the country for a few quid if given the chance. He's not that much better given his working practices.

First to score against Newcastle and do a 'assaulted, murdered and burned' team celebration should win a special prize. To be fair, that's quite a complex mime routine but we have creative players in the Premier League.

Wasn't it pretty much confirmed that the journalist guy commited suicide and cut himself up in an attempt to set up the Saudi royal family?

I'm not even sure it's such a modern thing, but I agree that not all bad things are equal. Most football club owners in history have something of a checkered past. It's just the scale is much worse now. An unscrupulous local businessman who profited from the labours of the area has been replaced by oligarchs and other human rights abusers.

Apparently the Saudis have earmarked £100 million for transfers, for the next four years.
Good luck with that.

Wasn't it pretty much confirmed that the journalist guy commited suicide and cut himself up in an attempt to set up the Saudi royal family? By MBS himself, no less. And the people who were accused of actually carrying out their orders haven't all disappeared or anything. This is all fine, perfectly normal. Boris will be chopping up Kier Starmer before you know it.

I can feel myself slowly falling out of love with football, I actually welcomed the international break (which I don't watch) for the first time ever. I'm not sure whether its the sport in general or the charlatan of a manager we have playing the constant turgid football, but I have no desire to watch it and I'm not arsed about other teams etc. I think its an accumulation of everything, but the sport isn't bothered about people like me and will just carry on growing and consuming everything in its way. Its pretty sad really
