ok ok we all know he's on borrowed time. Even the ones that think he's doing a great job.
We all pretty much agree that if he doesn't win something he's off now.
That something was never the league cup anyway.

'Proper' united fans, those who actually live or are from Manchester presumably? Less than 1% of the fanbase I'd guess. But even Uniteds 1% (of which I am one) is more than most other teams. I'd say uniteds 1% is split 50/50 on Ole, its the 50 percent who are backing him that have the whiff of fan elitism... There's also a sheer lack of understanding that you can have 2 separate feelings about the club in unison. Like, I think it's great that there's a more positive mood around the club than the years before Ole. It's genuinely great. I also think things on the pitch should have taken a much bigger step forward than they have given the time he's had and the money he's spent. This thing I'm concerned about doesn't affect the first thing I'm pleased about. It's not a binary thing. Just because others haven't quite got over being sucked into the Jose "You're either with us or against us" bullshit doesn't mean others aren't allowed to assess things out loud.

Every one in this little Man U sub discussion needs to look on the bright side. At least we do not support Arsenal

I also wonder if the tolerance for Ole is an age thing? I have supported United since I was old enough to pick a team and remember my mum sewing a number 7 on the back of my shirt because Best was my idol at the time. This means I am used to Utd being shit at times and view this as a reasonably good period in our history.

Really pissed off with the result last night. I had to change my seat for this game (i didn't opt in quick enough), so I was a bit higher up in the North stand.
Even I could see from there that Noble had pulled Lingard down in the box. John Moss was about 5 yards away? What the fuck? He owns a record shop around the corner from me, tempted to nip in there and ask him if he needs some fucking new contact lenses.
Still, we had about 976 shots and didn't score.
Through the match I was thinking that bar a couple of players, it's our rejects/deadwood 11, and we would probably lose it.
Bruno nicking that drop ball before the final whistle was really funny. Shame everyone else isn't a determined winner like him.
Oh and Martial is done. I play 7 a side and if someone was sulking around like that on my team I would have a word. He looked completely disinterested, even for his standards. Get him sold.

That something was never the league cup anyway. If we are close to the top of the league by the end of the season I think he deserves another year. If we are fighting for 4th or are 2nd/3rd but miles behind then yeah, he probably needs to go. I don't think winning one of the other trophies is that important in this context. An FA cup didn't do Arteta any favours (he'll be gone soon), and the CL didn't do Di Matteo any, or their teams. League position is the best indication of overall progress IMO. I want us to be in the title race every year. We might not win it, but that needs to be the benchmark. Cup competitions would follow if we were on this trajectory, which we haven't been since Fergie left. A few 2nd place finishes but like 15 points behind both times.

I'd hope to at least reach the CL Quarter Finals too given our outlay this summer. I agree that cups aren't the be all and end all, but dropping into the Europa League again or getting punted out in a shitfest over 2 legs in the last 16 by another Villarreal type outfit would be just as unacceptable.

I think that's a reasonable expectation too yeah. As someone else said, if we don't get into the knockout stages this year, I think he will be cooked.
Whether you like him or not, it's definitely crunch time for him. We've spent a fortune and I agree, moaning about a DM or the next problem position (it'll be CF after that because Cavani and Martial will leave and Ronaldo will be 37) is not an excuse.
We have a huge squad. Use it. Donny was very good last night, one of the only positives. Progressive on the ball, shouting at Matic to up the tempo, got stuck in with some nice tackles. He really needs a 5-10 game run in the league at this point, I think he's ready.

I'd be happy just to mount a title challenge on the premier league and somewhat improve the way we play. So many games are so dull, we either go a goal down then slowly mount a come back or we just steal a win after 90 mins of boredom.
Its not going to happen though...

Like I say, all I'm really saying is this isn't any better than it has been the last 3 years, despite having a far, far better squad. It's very clear by eye it hasn't really got much better. That people are suddenly getting very angry about that is quite ironic. What is this based on? A handful of games so far this season? Yeah, we have a very strong on paper starting 11. Lets give the man the rest of the season to see what he can do, not 3 or 4 games.... We still are nowhere near the quad depth of City and Chelsea. Absolutely nowhere near. It's not an excuse or a crutch, it's just the fact.

Also United's team on paper including the bench is easily worth more £ than Chelsea's and their bench isn't all that

Again, no one's said he should be sacked tomorrow. Pretty much everyone's in agreement that it is what it is until the end of the season.
This idea that we shouldn't at least be getting somewhere near Chelsea and City's level given the players we have at our disposal and the money we've spent is absolute lunacy though.
No one's saying we have the divine right to win the league by 15 points, or win the league at all for that matter. But when Southampton are dominating us for the last 20 minutes of a game at 1-1 having brought a 5th defender on at half time to defend a result it's not ridiculous to wonder why we can't do better than that given what we've got.

Bolton have announced this morning they’ll no longer have betting locations at the ground and won’t enter any new commercial partnerships with gambling companies. Good on them, hope it doesn’t hurt their bottom line too much.

“Brentford prepare for their first meeting with one of the Premier League’s elite and, having put plenty of credit in the bank with eight points from five games, they have earned the right to a proper go at Liverpool.”
Oof 😭

Question. An attacking player has the ball in the opposite penalty area. He’s all the way at the byline and is actually standing off the pitch, but the ball itself is still in play in the penalty area. He gets clearly fouled while he’s standing off the pitch.
Is it a penalty?

Is it a penalty? Yes. Law 12.4: If, when the ball is in play [...] a player commits an offence against a match official or an opposing player [...] outside the field of play, play is restarted with a free kick on the boundary line nearest to where the offence/interference occurred; a penalty kick is awarded if this is a direct free kick offence within the offender’s penalty area.
