Dreadful 2nd half. They could have easily won 5 or 6-0 if not for Hugo

Really come crashing down after those first 3 games. It’s more the palace game that worried me rather than this one (bad as the 2nd half was). It’s clear we are a long way from top 4, so we really need to be performing against the rest.

Off to the home match with Leicester in a bit, feel that we might come unstuck again ala Everton a few weeks ago. My seat at the Amex is about 25 metres behind one of the goals and in five seasons of watching us against Schmeichel he's always been really strong and unfazed. He also banters with the fans a lot, which is fun. Obvs early into the season but its weird not being frustrated already. I fear the universe might correct itself soon though and we'll turn stinky for a few months. I'm here too, and to have the obligatory moan about modern football, why the fuck are we here at 2pm on Sunday for a match that's not on the telly. No reason we couldn't have had a traditional Saturday 3pm KO. That was a fun afternoon.
Another 3 points stolen? To be fair we're being more resilient and actually taking our chances. Lord knows the VAR pendulum swung against us a shit load last year.

There's always the odd game that's not against the top 4 where the likes of us get turned over. It happens. Seems to me that AFC and THFC are basically in the same place. Teams in transition, trying to build younger teams, which inevitably means some highs and lows. I think the too 4 are pretty much set, they seem way ahead of the rest of us.

Yeah that’s fair. If the first half yesterday and the city game are how Nuno wants to play then I’ll be pretty happy. Sitting back just doesn’t suit us at all, as last season and the palace game showed. High energy high press is the way forward.
It’s scary how far ahead of us Chelsea were when they turned it in though.

When he played for Villa, he was a cut above everyone else. So intelligent with the ball and the runs he would make were smart. Scored a worldie against Coventry to put us 3-2 up after being 2-0 down and got them relegated.

I really hate how betting has taken over football.
We’ve had at least two players blow their careers because of gambling addiction (Keith Gillespie and Michael Chopra) and no one really cares because they just want the whales to feed the industry and keep money rolling in.

I remember when he was at Boro he would talk about how fans would get on his back for misplacing passes but that really it was because he was so much better than the other players he could see space and passes that were a step ahead of everyone else.

Watched the highlights again and I think west ham were also hard done by to not have a penalty yesterday.
Bit of a bad match for the refs and VAR. Perhaps a draw would have been fair.
We don't seem to be playing very well so far this season. I know we have a lot of points, but the performances have been a bit of a mess.
Positives are that we seem to have more possession and a bit more control of games. But on the flip side our defence seems a bit poor. I still don't get the feeling we are solid, which is odd considering the players we have now. AWB is a liability so far this season. He was crap again yesterday.
I'm sure we will get better, but so will other teams and Liverpool and Chelsea are already looking really solid.
If Liverpool get any injuries at all they will start to struggle, City seem to be on a wobble but Chelsea look like title winners already.
It can all change though. Still so early.

The defence is looking vulnerable because they have little to no protection from the midfield. They're getting dragged out of position or have 4v3 situations far too often.

For some reason in the second half we played down the right the whole time, and AWB is useless in attack. Shaw by far our best defender, but hopefully Varane's quality comes through. Maguire just relies on having a bit slab head. Amazing in the air (though not attacking apparently), useless at everything else. His passing was conference quality yesterday.
Re: pen for WH. Do you mean from AWB? Thought it looked a pen at first, but the WH player looked like he leaned on him.

I don't think we're far off another one of those 4-5 game phases where we struggle to get anything and play out a lot of turgid draws. There's no evidence we've upped the tempo or worked on drilling the team with some movement that can help break down teams that sit back, other than hoping someone scores a worldie every game.
We've got the quality to finish comfortably 4th and I think we will, but I think anything above that will be beyond us unless one of City, Chelsea or Pool have an absolute mare.

I have not seen anything this season that makes me think we will do any better than last year (which was a fluke). Yes we have ronaldo and a better version of Dan James and Lindelof but they were never the big issue with the team. Our main problems are having a clueless manager in Solskjær who only ever has one plan for a game, who's football 95% of the time is no better than Moyes, Jose or LVG's and a championship level centre midfield pairing.
I'm mystified why a large percentage of United fans are still backing him. This weekend I was with family I haven't seen for a while and they were full on Solskjær apologists, their argument was us finishing 2nd last season, that was it.
Its now a running joke with Liverpool and City supporters who heap praise on Solskjær for a laugh just to wind us up....

I quietly always hope that our other 3 main rivals go on enough of a bad patch that will result in their manager becoming unsettled enough for them to call it a day and leave them in the lurch for half a season. I honestly don't think any fan of those same three teams have the same feeling about us. We're just there and not much of a threat to anyone, pure and simple.

I'm not confident that if they do get rid of Ole that they're competent enough to find the right replacement. As shown by the hiring since Fegie retired.
So at the minute I'm in the lesser of 2 evils camp with Ole.

I'm quite glad we've waited long enough for Poch to be showing a bit of a shit hand at PSG and having them play some dire football there as I think he'd have been next up for us.

I'm worried it will be Conte. Who will probably bring some short term success but will have a Jose meltdown with the board. And he likes lots of new players brought in.
He'll leave in a couple of seasons and the cycle will begin again.

I'd like to point out that we've had this conversation a few times already. Also obviously we sound like spoilt kids to an Arsenal fan

I was going to say City too but they don't have any so that's a moot point

I think seeing Chelsea getting rid of Frank with a great manager so easily is what has turned us into spoilt brats.

I back the manager because there has been clear signs of progress in terms of personnel, playing style and results over the past 3 seasons. Along with the fact the players seem to like and respect him.
Thankfully there’s the same sentiment amongst most match going fans but thoughts are with those who would prefer see him fail to have their internet opinion validated than to actually take any joy in the team’s successes.
That said, no trophies and more than 5 points off the league leaders this year and he should be gone.

I was the same as you red, but now you know exactly how a game will play out before kick off is starting to frustrate. You can even predict what time he will make a sub and who it will be.
There has been progress and the atmosphere around the club is a lot more positive nowadays. However, there hasn't really been much on pitch progress since he's joined. We look a similar team and the matches play out the same way to when he first joined. And with the squad we have now that shouldn't be the case.

Again, anyone who's seeing something different in the way we play now compared to how we played for the most part under van Gaal and Mourinho is beyond me. Better vibes, yes. More harmonious squad, yes. Better average results because of this, yes. But the football really isn't any better for the most part. Our games are still mostly an absolute slog to get through.
It doesn't make you a worse fan to point out we're no closer to being at that next level the top teams operate at than we were before. Anyone with eyes can see that.

You can have your little digs (I was born in Withington hospital in Manchester and have been to loads of games since around 1981) but you will eventually have your reality check at some point and realise how shit he is. " Thankfully there’s the same sentiment amongst most match going fans but thoughts are with those who would prefer see him fail to have their internet opinion validated than to actually take any joy in the team’s successes."No united fan wants to see him fail, but his coaching and tactics are crap, he gets a free pass where other managers don't due to his name. What are you deeming the teams successes just out of interest, 4 semi finals or the europa final?
