Is Willian on the bench to rescue this?

Equally, can in no way argue that the Brentford XI is stronger man for man so Arteta hardly blameless here.
Only saving grace is the weird fact that we do generally do better against stronger teams under Mikel. Will have to do much better against Spurs and Chelsea again to keep his job.

Oh I see. They are just going for the 'don't defend set pieces at all' tactic this season then.

I was saying earlier. This Brentford side is a very good championship side, it should make life difficult for the league but should be blown away by the arsenals. David Raya is immense though.

Congratulations Bees! My 7 year old self might be following you now instead of wondering where Manchester is. 😝

Losing to Watford a couple of years ago it was obvious that Emery needed to go. This feels very much like that. Zero signs of progress. No clear plan. No excuses. Less than the sum of their parts.
I've been on fully onboard with Arteta till now and felt he deserved time. Well here's had a whole summer now and that ain't good enough. I hear Conte is available.
Well done Brentford.

Saw this result coming to be honest. And probably would have expected the same if it was us playing them. Difficult first fixture, but Arsenal were poor.

What a start for Brentford. Arsenal the gift that keep on giving. Also great to hear crowds again.

This is the big issue. He's had bloody ages in football terms.

I think there is a plan. We just don't have the players to play like he wants. We played exactly as the team looked. Inexperienced.

Golly.
Sitting here in a pub 5 minutes from Brentford stadium and trying to decide whether to finish my pint and run, or sit and watch the upcoming carnage.

I just said similar to my wife (who has no interest in football). Arsenal used to be exciting going forward but dodgy at the back. For a short while it seemed that Arteta was going to sort it out in defence at least, and that the drawback was going to be a more reserved style of play. That hasn’t happened though, they are just as bad defending, making silly mistakes, and offer little going forward. They are just boring to watch, which is such a shame. Just a nothing team, not even one of those that lack in skill but make up for it in effort. They seem to lack desire, focus and the life has been sucked out of them.

You can't honestly tell me more than a couple of Brentford players would have got in a combined XI? It's not all Arteta's fault as we've not done well in the transfer market, but even so, those players should look reasonably authoritative against Brentford and create some decent chances.

Rough for the Gunners. Thought Brentford played pretty well.

Oh he definitely has lots of answering to do. There were some marginal calls but we can't complain. Defended terribly for most of the 1st half, and both goals. Bit unlucky in the final 3rd, but Raya only had to make one (tremendous) save.

Wow, great start by Brentford!
Sure Arsenal defended badly for the goals, but I think Brentford generally outplayed Arsenal and Arsenal (second half) were just not on it enough to get the goals.
Far too soon to be reading despair from fans.

It's not despair as I'm quite confident Arteta can safely guide us to another 8th place finish. I might be a naive romantic but I'd rather hoped we might be scrapping for the lofty heights of 5-6th this year.

He had a decent 2nd half but dreadful 1st. Tbh, the main thing I am looking forward to this season is watching the games with my son. For my sins, it seems the hooks are well and truly in and he's all over it. Doesn't stop yabbering all game though. Stop. Asking. So. Many. Questions!
