To be honest, you guys probably know a lot more about this than i do so i will bow to your superior knowledge. I'm just annoyed by the decision and when you see people like Gary Lineker tweet 'penalty for me, but not a red', it makes you think.
It was still a bad call though, and in light of this new information i've changed my mind.
Liverpool should not have received an indirect free kick. They should have received nothing. If the option is 'award a penalty for an obvious accidental handball but you also need to send the player off' or 'do nothing', then the latter is the morally correct choice.
However, Anthony Taylor is a cretin. He didn't look at the footage properly, literally only saw the still shot of the ball between James' leg and arm, and his tiny lizard brain must have lit up at the thought of screwing Chelsea over once again. Questions need to be asked.

One follows the other though. If it's a pen, it's a red. Absolute bullshit. It's a straight red if a player is judged to have moved his hand/arm to stop the ball in the penalty area. An example of this would be Liverpool favourite and known cannibal Luis Suarez's disgraceful actions against Ghana. It is not necessarily a red card if the ball bounced off another body part and hits their arm. What the hell was James supposed to do? Retract his arm into his body like a robot? Tomo is right, it was a fucking joke of a decision. But Taylor makes a lot of them against Chelsea... at least this one wasn't in a cup final. He flicked the arm up onto the ball. Now you could say that's a normal human reaction which it is. Drop something or throw something at someone unexpectedly and the Will do that sort of movement. This brings up a different issue I have with VAR which is they only seem to show in show mo which made this look worse. Play it at normal speed and it actually looks less intentional and more normal human reaction.

It did look to me like he almost went to scoop it out with his arm after the ball hit him initially. He probably didn't know an awful lot about it in the moment but the little arm movement was what made the decision an easy one.
From an entertainment standpoint I think I'd have rather seen the indirect free kick on the goal line mind you. Just make Lukaku lie sideways on the line lads, it's gonna be fine.

It was a reflex reaction but doesn't change anything really. Not these days.

I dunno how anyone can say it wasn't a pen for pool. But at the same time, a pen for handball and red going hand in hand is absolute nonsense.
Don't think the PSG boy that handballed against us with the flailing arms was red carded, was he? Sissoko hand ball in CL wasn't a red. Why's it different? Because it was on the line?
It wasn't deliberate for me, which is the only way it should be a red imo. He didn't move his arm to the ball, he moved his whole body trying to get his leg on the ball, and the ball deflected up onto his arm. Very unlucky and a pen maximum.
Ruined a good game. But the refs absolutely love that. Chelsea far better team before that too.

Lol, indirect free kick indeed! Wow!
I stand by what I said yesterday, harsh to have a red and penalty, but it is the rules. And he does blatantly sweep his arm forward stopping the ball go into the net...

Because Ole uses him when the opposition has a speed merchant in their team. He'll be tasked with keeping up with Traore.

Fred is awful. Replace him and this is a title winning squad.

Traoré is like a juggernaut. Wolves plenty of early chances.

Man Utd looking for Ronaldo to get them out of trouble even though he's not playing.

I'm almost certain he'll fuck it off and move on to PSG next summer.

If Van De Beek doesn't even come on in this match, I'd demand a move away. How the fuck's he not playing when Fred's been so shocking? Mind you, Pogba is having a shocker too.

Pogba is playing deeper than Fred which I find strange.

Appreciate its pretty meaningless, but for the first time in football history Spurs are top and Arsenal are bottom, which is quite a pleasing way to go into the break.

I know it’ll probably matter very little come the end of the season but it is nice to see a piece of footballing history that isn’t purely about a spending record going. And its remarkable its taken all of the history of football for this one to happen.

Some nice symmetry as well with Spurs conceding zero and Arsenal scoring zero.

If there is ever a need for torture you could just show them all of our games against Wolves in recent years. They are almost all the same 😂
Although while I was writing this we scored.
