Ruined the game regardless of whether it was the right call. The first half was great to watch.

Arteta's managed a real haul of shite records now. Our worst league defeat against city today apparently. Could have at least used his ties to ask Pep to go a bit easier on us in the second half.

Big Sam might be worth a punt at 50/1 for next Arsenal manager.

This is the sort of situation that really highlights the deficiencies in Lukaku's game. Keeps running offside while his midfield are struggling and then moaning that he isn't being passed the ball.

Gutted that we (Newcastle) can score a 90th minute winner and still end up not taking all three points.
Games like this are what could cost us our place in the league.

Chelsea have absolutely done Liverpool here. We're going to have to watch the fuckers win the league.

I was thinking about the enmity between Chelsea and Liverpool back when Mourinho and Benitez were managers, and how as a Chelsea fan i didn't really feel anything towards Liverpool anymore, especially with the most classless football player of all time, Gerrard, gone. With Klopp and Tuchel in charge it felt like i'd mirror their feelings towards each other.
But then Anthony Taylor revealed that he is a massive wanker. An utterly idiotic decision.

Ffs, feels like 2 pts lost. Chelsea are certainly a solid defensive unit so well done to them for their second half display. We were very dominant but didn't create enough
Great to see Harvey Elliot play so well in such a high profile game.
Now for the ridiculously early international break.

How did Chelsea end up with someone as cool as Tuchel? I don't think I've ever heard a manager not talk total bollocks like that.

Bit late to the conversation but I don’t think Arsenal’s performance means as much as some have said.
We were never going to beat City and getting smashed by them with the majority of our defensive players out (CB partnership plus Partey) isn’t hugely consequential to whether we’ll end up with a chance at some sort of European football next season. That being conference or Europa mind you.
It’s the games against mid to lower table teams that will define our season. If we can find a way to create and score more against a low block we’ll be fine.
That being said, that gap between us and the top four is getting ever bigger and I don’t think there’s much chance that Arteta will be still around when this young team reaches its peak years (whatever that will look like).
Also happy to take one of Xhaka’s annual implosions in a game we were never going to win rather than 40 minutes into a 0-0 with Villa or something.

Yeah, I'm thinking of sticking Auba in my team after the international break.

If Auba had the mentality he could/should be at somewhere like Madrid the way he can play when he can be arsed

Fucking joke of a decision to send him off. My God One follows the other though. If it's a pen, it's a red. Absolute bullshit. It's a straight red if a player is judged to have moved his hand/arm to stop the ball in the penalty area. An example of this would be Liverpool favourite and known cannibal Luis Suarez's disgraceful actions against Ghana. It is not necessarily a red card if the ball bounced off another body part and hits their arm. What the hell was James supposed to do? Retract his arm into his body like a robot? Tomo is right, it was a fucking joke of a decision. But Taylor makes a lot of them against Chelsea... at least this one wasn't in a cup final.

And the ref/VAR adjudged Reece to have moved his arm towards the ball. That it came off his leg is secondary. Without that movement, it wouldn't have been a pen or a red. But by judging it to be a pen, the red has to follow. Thems the rules.

The ref didn't adjudge anything.
He looked at a still shot of the ball between Reese James' thigh and arm. If Anthony Taylor was interested in officiating football matches properly, he might have taken more than a second to look at the video footage, arrived at the correct conclusion that the ball bounced off his thigh and hit his arm at an entirely natural angle, and not sent him off.
As per commentary, as per most level-headed pundits who have chimed in on Twitter. I'm not sure where this idea that it's an automatic red card comes from. It seems like a secret rule that not many people know about.

But even if i wasn't, i'd think that at most it should have been an indirect free kick.

It seems like a secret rule that not many people know about. Of course they adjudged it. That's what they do for every decision. It's a judgement call based on the evidence in front of them, and he looked at the video. You can disagree, that's fine. But even in real time, Gary Neville thought he'd moved his hand towards the ball, albeit slightly. It was definitely there though. And once that's been decided, it becomes a case of denying a goal scoring opportunity and is a straight red. Stopping the ball on the line with your hand has been a straight red for as long as I can remember.

Genuinely chuckling away to myself that handball on the line should be an indirect free kick. Oh my days lol.
