He'd have been available on a free next summer, which is supposedly (might just be paper talk or put out by his agent) when Real Madrid would have gone for him. Think the wages on offer at Man Utd helped seal the deal on the player's side too.

Wages also seem extremely conservative compared to what the previous regime would have offered 115 -120k apparently so nothing close to the top earners at the club. Similarly Zirkzee is said to be on around 50k per week

Branthwaite of course is completely proven at this level, which the almost as expensive 18 year old is not.

I mean it's not that far off is it. And why assume that people commenting on United are upset? I'd describe it as detached mild amusement.

42 million with another potential 10 in add-ons is quite a way from 70 million.
The prices journalists have been using is in euros to make it look higher.

DH Gate all the way for me still. OK, I guess I'd better go through the youtube tutorials as it's not clear how you find anything on there

Only ones I've seen upset about the Yoro signing are Everton fans realising we're not bending over backwards to pay £80m for their prized asset

It doesn't seem to out there given Brighton spent 30 odd million on Minteh, another golden boy nominee who's not prem proven.
That being said, we've now get 6 of the golden boys, mostly for way way less.

It's no sign that any of them will ever make it but it's nice to see us making the right sort of transfers for a change. The players coming in looking like improvements on what is going out and they are quite young as well.
They will probably all end up being shit and nothing will change now I've said that 😅

At the same time as the Minteh sale, Newcastle sold Forest Elliot Anderson for a reported £30m-odd - but also bought Vlachodimos, our 3rd keeper who is awful and worse than Matt Turner, for about £15m or something silly. Did Newcastle buy one of your squad players for an inflated fee?

Here's some comparative research as I'm camping this week and have nothing better to do -
Baleba - £23m Hinshelwood - Academy Ferguson - £3m (? Not sure about this) Buonanotte - £5m Minteh - £33m Ibrahim Osman - £16m
I expect Barco (£9m) will join the list this year, and Enciso (£10m) would probably be there if not hot injury.

No Brighton have no need to worry about PSR - I think we just considered it an opportunity to get a player that would otherwise have not been available - it was a reluctant NUFC sale. And they already had a bigger offer from elsewhere (albeit not one the player wanted).

Yeah I knew Brighton were safe, but it could still have been an opportunity to offload some chaff while helping NUFC out of their hole. I don't think Forest were in any bother by that stage either as Lyon had already arguably overpaid for two of our non-regular starters.

Heading to lovely Lyme Regis in a bit. Wife wants to play Badminton but I've already broken the farms Swingball.

Only ones I've seen upset about the Yoro signing are Everton fans realising we're not bending over backwards to pay £80m for their prized asset For what it's worth, I've not seen that at all from our fans, only from the likes of Goldbridge looking for traffic. The Everton fan perspective is very much relief that we aren't losing Branthwaite for pennies due to our board's financial incompetence.

That's fair enough, the comments I've seen come from supposed Everton fans on twitter and such. Suppose there are a few Liverpool fans as well, considering they wear also interested in him.

Branthwaite of course is completely proven at this level, which the almost as expensive 18 year old is not. £75 million was the latest reported price set by Everton. In what world is £75 nearly as expensive as €50m which is closer to £43m It's a huge difference! Edit: Lol, nm this was well covered!

Happy with our sigings, but they are certainly more potential signings than sure things. Yoro will hopefully be great. That Madrid were very interested is a good sign. Zirkzee I dunno. I think a proven Prem striker to go with Hojlund might have been better, nit a 13 in 53 Bologna Striker who couldn't get on for the Dutch. But I dunno. We should be fine in attack probably with Hojlund, Zirkzee and Rashford as striker options. And honestly Bruno as false 9 did work decently well towards the end of the season.
I think we still need De Ligt for CB, unless we are planning on relying on Maguire again. And a left back is an absolute must.

Should have Malacia back though so I would be happy for a solid youth option as third choice for LB. No point in spending mega money when they will be 3rd choice.

Hoping Shaw and Malacia stay fit could be risky. A decent youth option might not be too bad though.

I think people have forgotten just how terrible Malacia is... Also Maguire playing football for us again should never be allowed to happen. We need another top CM, LB back up and De Ligt and I'll be happy

Criminal that Belgium never gave us an opportunity to see this in action during the Euros
