I just don't see the point in taking the risk on someone like McKenna right now and starting everything again. He's done brilliantly with Ipswich but it's a huge risk. A completely different kettle of fish.

The PL injury tables 23/24 Most separate injuries: 1. Man Utd 2. Chelsea 3. Newcastle Most individual players injured: 1. Spurs 2. Brighton 3. Liverpool Most days lost to injury: 1. Newcastle 2. Sheff Utd 3. Chelsea Highest number of players injured at the same time: 1. Chelsea 1. Luton 1. Man Utd 1. Newcastle (eleven players injured each) Fewest players injured: Man City Full tables for every measure available here www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cq55wy2qx21oBig takeaway is that if we all just spent wisely and signed two or three £50-100m world class players for every position and rotated then we’d have nothing to cry about.

Bonus points if you can swallow the majority of that money in agent's fees, payments to player's fathers and football clubs for their brothers so everyone can throw around the "They haven't even spent as much as some people" gambit.

Not to mention the investment in the best sports scientists and physios etc. in the world, and extensive spending on world class infrastructure eased through thanks to cosy agreements with the local council.

Well at least if anyone tries to call it into question they won't be able to put pressure on our actual government to snake out of it.
An underdog story in the truest sense.

Paquetta was far more subtle than Tonali at least.
Disappointing that this couldn't wait until after City buy him though.

Arsenal had one of our best years for injuries for a long time. Aside from niggles and illness we pretty much kept a spine of Raya, Saliba, Gabriel, Rice, Odegaard, Saka fit all season.
Think it's a combination of having more strength in depth so less pressure to rush players back, a revamp of the medical team (our top doctor actually went to Man Utd at the end of last season...) and luck, in that order.
Even then it's all relative. We still had a several important players miss most of the season.

I think a lot of it has been luck. You look at Wilshere, Diaby, Rosicky to name a few.. incredible talent, with incredible bad luck.

Yeah we were pretty lucky. Injuries to Rice, Odegard, Saliba, Gabby, Saka would have been catastrophic.

Saliba injury pretty much derailed our previous season.

Saliba injury pretty much derailed our previous season. This is a perfect example of the impact losing just 1 player can have if you don't have the right kind of depth.

Interesting link. Looks like they've somewhat arbitrarily excluded some players because they were nominally injured prior to the start of the season but they've included the likes of Timber for Arsenal who never played a competitive game for them. I think every sane person would include Malacia for us which puts us back on the top of that days lost table where we are not in the top 3. Luke Shaw and Martinez played a couple of matches which juices their "availability" stat too. Start of the season Martinez was still injured but played (not very well) until the Arsenal game - he literally still had a broken foot. Well done medical team. What a time to be alive.

I think you'll find Timber played a whole 40 minutes or so on the opening day, then the last 10 on the final day. So nearly a whole game!

our top doctor actually went to Man Utd at the end of last season... Sabotage! You should have sent him to the other Manchester team.

From what little we've seen of Timber in those two glimpses, he looks like he could genuinely add another dimension to our build up play.
I suspect we'll only start to properly appreciate what we actually lost this season in late September.

Point kinda stands though - not enough game time to know whether he'd have made a significant difference or not.

Seems like a good guy and I've actually met him a few times. He left last May but only started with you in September so not really fair to blame him for all the injury issues. I don't think the club wanted to lose him. Cousin of Brian O'Driscoll for the rugby fans in here. However from what's been reported, the new Arsenal Head of Medical took the opportunity to restructure and change some long standing processes.

Monk is Forest so he's not truly worried about sabotage!

I know they’re not injuries but I’d be tempted to include Toney and Tonali as asterisks since they’re both long term unavailable due to exceptional circumstances as opposed to regular in-play suspensions (reds, accumulated yellows)

It's the most I've ever respected the man, playing proper football games and being able to roll off Master League OG's like that.

"Watch the lads down under"
*None of these lads actually played.
Does look as if they thought they could just play kids and reserves and massively underestimated/disrespected the A League level. Serves them right.

That's a great read. I get why opposition fans hate him but that adds to why he's so great.
