Write about core memories that produce the good feels. TV, toys, games, music, playground games, whatever. We’re mostly all of an age where I think we need this! Haven’t seen another thread for this. I’ll kick this off with… Osborne Puzzle Adventure books. Amazing. I had: Time Train to Ancient Rome Dinosaur Adventure Intergalactic Bus Trip I may have had others but these are what I remember. They told a story in pictures but each scene was like a picture diorama where you’d have to navigate mazes, find clues, spot means of escape and stuff. Properly good edutainment. youtu.be/GvXkQbfz6iY?si=IYODKtJCzp5-nTyo

I don't really have nostalgia, never look back etc,but I've recently started having pangs for my old home town 90s high street. There used to be so much stuff; computer shops, toys shops, newsagents, video rentals, and ofc woolies.
I think it's been compounded by a recent visit 'home' where I walked along the high street, which is now dead, loads of shuttered or derelict shops I'd spent many fun hours in as a kid.
On top of that my now elderly mum saying she wants to move to the bigger town hub she now goes to lots on the bus (because there's "nothing" where she lives)
Made me kinda sad.

Cyril Sneer.
Properly emotional beginning credits and music.
Yeah Zulu I completely relate to that.
There used to be so much. My town had three record shops at one point! Our Price (remember them?), Andy’s Records (great selection but pricey) and Music Zone (I think) which had a decent selection and loads of discounts on everything including books. Very much like a proto-Fop. My little town even had a proper toy and model shop.
Woolworths was still a massive thing with toys, sweets, and a good chart music section too.
Over in the next town was Vibes records which was a complete family run indie and was legendary. Bought my first three CDs with my own spends there - a happy hardcore compilation, What’s The Story Morning Glory, Moseley Shoals.
WH Smith’s was an absolute treasure trove instead of a graveyard. And there was a discount book shop too. When I was just starting to want nice clothes we had Fosters, Burtons, Stolen from Ivor.
Used to go in with my dad most weekends and would have an amazing time looking round, and this would be coupled with trips to the then impeccably stocked library too. This experience has been completely lost.

From my experience nostalgia really hits when your parents are ill/dying. It just brings back memories of when I had little care for the world, everyone around me was well, and I just looked forward to getting home from school to play PS1/PS2.

It's mainly tech that does it for me. I downloaded the GeoCities torrent and I can now browse it and pretend I'm a kid again. Even writing it down makes me almost well up! I want to build a retro pc to run it on along with Encarta 95. If you haven't heard it in a while the Encarta loading screen will reduce you to tears. www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxNsIBJOAA8I also recently bought the Amiga 500 I had as a kid, the cartoon box one, fixed it up am now looking for a monitor. Just opening the box and seeing all the manuals and boxes I would have poured over as a kid, it's almost too much. Having a kid has made me really whistlful for my own childhood.

Being overseas means I have nostalgia for literally everything. Stuff from my childhood. Stuff from general UK life. Stuff from not even that long ago.
A lot of it is probably misplaced as well, but what can you do.
(mainly what I do is hang out here tbh)

The Fighting Fantasy books by Steve Jackson and/or Ian Livingstone (and sometimes others). I graduated from Choose Your Own adventure to them pretty quickly because they were edgier - but I wouldn't play them properly with character sheets and dice rolls, I'd either just auto-win every encounter or I'd just read the death entries one by one.
Weekend morning cartoons - Defenders Of The Earth, City of Gold, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors.
Beech Nut chewing gum - the spearmint one.
Penny bombs. I actually made some with my son a couple of weeks ago but they didn't work properly, I guess the paper caps are a different formula or smaller or something. Health and safety gone made I tells ya.

I had that Cartoon Classics box as well! Still have it all in the attic. Bart vs The Space Mutants, before I knew what The Simpsons was, Captain Planet, Lemmings! The TV modulator that meant any desk in a kids room wasn't deep enough! I know what you mean about the having a kid part. I get wistful when I think of myself as a child, almost as a different person and I kind of mourn him - he would have really liked a friend like my son.

I was honestly about to post this. I've been looking for one of the classic ones for my kid, as I thought they'd enjoy it. But the newer editions have all replaced the iconic covers and artwork with much more bland stuff. Plus, I think I'll have to import it from the UK because, as usual, the Japanese have made it weird. OG UK Cover: Japan. Sigh.

The cartoon that people don't seem to remember when I ask them is Pole Position. Loved it as a child.

That's a beautiful way of looking at it, yes I would have been best friends with my boy! I like to think that I am sort of am anyway but it's not the same.

All seasons of Raccoons, including the Xmas episode, are on The Roku channel.
They don't hold up to my memories, but I still kind of enjoyed the Xmas one on Xmas eve with my boys

You’re looking for 死のワナの地下迷宮 if you want the original art and translation into Japanese. Both editions seem to be out of print there though so the prices on Amazon are “interesting”.

The cartoon that people don't seem to remember when I ask them is Pole Position. Loved it as a child. I loved Pole Position, those cars were cool. I have big nostalgia for pretty much all the cartoons I spent an unhealthy amount of time weening myself on during the 80s and early 90s. My particular favs were The Visionaries, Mysterious Cities of Gold and Dungeons & Dragons, but tbh I pretty much liked them all.

The Watership Down animated film.
Rabbits, rabies, murder. What better for a 5 year old child.

UuuuUUllllLyyyssseeeeeEEEEeeeeEEEEeeeesss!!! I feel honoured that's it one of those cartoons that actually had a last episode and a proper ending that I saw as opposed to being cancelled with no closure.
