RIP. Not a royalist at all but she carried herself with great dignity. Agree.

Don't feel sad at all, other than in the mild way when any old person I don't know dies. It's just weird not having the Queen, I guess all the stamps will change and shit. But they did interrupt Radio 6 to play God Save the Queen (I guess King now) and had to switch it off as I've got a pavlovian response to booing it at rugby games. I was really confused as I forgot the national anthem is called God Save The Queen and I could only think of the Sex Pistols song, which didn't seem appropriate at all.

For some reason Queenie passing has triggered loads of memories of my lovely Nan. Maybe because she looked quite a lot like Queenie and was an absolute fangirl for her. I remember going with my Nan and having to stand on the side of the A1 for an hour waiting for Queenie to drive past in the hope she would give us *that* wave, which to be fair she did.

National anthem is going to be more badly mimed than usual by the players this winter.

I'm no royalist, but this is a monumental piece of historic news. We all knew it was going to happen someday soon yet she's been a constant throughout most of our lives. It's sad news, she always seemed to conduct herself with great dignity, something I wished our other so called leaders would do, and apparently she was no fan of Thatcher, which is alright by me.

This is an incredibly long but comprehensive list of what we're likely to see in the next few days and weeks: www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/mar/16/what-happens-when-queen-elizabeth-dies-london-bridgeThe most elaborate plans are for what happens if she passes away at Balmoral, where she spends three months of the year. This will trigger an initial wave of Scottish ritual. First, the Queen’s body will lie at rest in her smallest palace, at Holyroodhouse, in Edinburgh, where she is traditionally guarded by the Royal Company of Archers, who wear eagle feathers in their bonnets. Then the coffin will be carried up the Royal Mile to St Giles’s cathedral, for a service of reception, before being put on board the Royal Train at Waverley station for a sad progress down the east coast mainline. Crowds are expected at level crossings and on station platforms the length of the country – from Musselburgh and Thirsk in the north, to Peterborough and Hatfield in the south – to throw flowers on the passing train. (Another locomotive will follow behind, to clear debris from the tracks.) “It’s actually very complicated,” one transport official told me.

Every time someone says Queeny I think of that scene in Peep Show when Jez is trying to beat off to her image on a ten pound note.
RIP

The pure vitriol and hatred directed at the Queen / Monarchy / Britain in general is quite something at times like this, I gotta say. Defo a "stay off social media" day (or week, maybe even a month or so...) due to both sides going completely fucking bananas.
I'm no monarchist (no republican either, just get on with my life) and have never actively supported or even particularly paid attention to the Royal family, but I do feel some sadness in a "I'm getting old and people that have been ubiquitous in my life are disappearing at a consistenly greater rate" way.

I'm sure that's true, but on the other hand the uncritical fawning the royals always get from legacy media is also quite something.

It’s because of the pure, undiluted unfairness of it all. They are the epitome of everything that is wrong with the country.
And now they knock important business like the cost of living off the front pages for a month.

I absolutely agree that she was dignified and did a better job than most there *cough* BORIS *cough*, but, meh. I watched three sons and a daughter lower their mum into her grave Tuesday and that, that was dignified. It’s easier to be dignified when you live a life of unimaginable luxury and have seven thousand advisors behind every move and every decision you make, no? Sorry, absolutely no royalist, and it’s sad for the immediate family, but I’m not sad at all personally. I’m kinda annoyed at the millions that will be spent on this death and the coming coronation-of-a-wanker now when millions are in fuel poverty any moment.

Just popped to Sainsbury’s for a few bits and they wouldn’t make me a fresh pizza as the counter was closed because the Queen died.
It begins.

Is there any slim chance of Charles barrelling into Number 10 this evening with a broadsword and beheading Liz Truss to reclaim power like the days of yore?

Her staying power alone is worth of enormous respect, but boy, do we love our unnecessary pomp.
