So this game is driving me mad, compeltly addicted.
I have beaten it with ironclad, however for the life of me I can't do it on silent. Come very very close a couple of times but always fall short.
Anyone got tips/advice? Or still playing it?

I think the best advice for beginning players is that, sometimes, the best decision is to not add cards to your deck. Ideally, once you have some better attacks and skills, you want to be taking cards *out* of the deck. Your strikes and defends and whatnot. Also, card draw is valuable, especially with Silent.
People talk about poison and shiv "builds" and whatnot, but I think it's important not to try and force your deck into one of those moulds, because you mostly have to deal with what the game gives you. The way to get good at it is to know what kind of fights are coming up, then choosing cards that will help you with those things.

Also, you can look up some Overexplained runs on YouTube, by professional StS streamer Jorbs. Those could be good in helping you learn how to think about the game.

Yeah been trying to keep the deck at around 20 cards, seem hear mixed views on whether ascension 1 runs are worth going for elites. The HP loss doesn't outway the relics gained.
At about 60 hours I really should be better. I am getting to end of act 2 beginning of act 3 pretty much every run. Got to the "last boss" about 5 times in 20 runs.
I just don't get how people complete runs regularly.

Might just need to move off silent. But I feel I need the closure haha.

Maybe look at some of those videos I mentioned. His regular stream is pretty high-level "ima do A25 heart kill streaks while alternating characters", but his in-depth videos are good for beginning players.

Just looking at one now. Think the overexplained ones will be what I need. The other high level ones were going too fast and wanted to know why he was doing what he was doing.
thibk we have similar taste in games. Feel you're always helping me out haha

Silent is about poison stacks, or at least that's how I won. Footwork and lots of block cards for defense, then some way to apply poison stacks and Catalyst to multiply them. Can get lucky and cast Nightmare on Catalyst sometimes, which means even the toughest enemy is quickly done. Corpse Explosion is also good for minion bosses. Only problem is multi-phase bosses that clear the poison stacks. I think it's also possible to make a good shiv-based build, but I never quite managed that.
Personally, I'm struggling with the Watcher. Have tried many times but not been able to beat the heart yet. It was close a few times, but no dice so far.

Cool, now you can move on to the Defect, which is my favourite character!

My (not very original) strats were as follows: Ironclad - high offence, low defence. The classic "glass cannon" approach. Silent - poison, poison, and more poison. Otherwise, high defence and low offence. Defect - after struggling for a long time with a lightning build, I finally succeeded by going all-in on ice. Watcher - constantly switching between stances to get more energy and draw more cards. Just out of interest, when you guys talk about successful runs, do you mean beating Act 3 or Act 4?

Yeah, I had some fairly nuts runs with the defect. Maxxed out orbs and just annihilating everything with dark orbs. Especially good for any enemies that get stronger when you do regular attacks.

Love Slay the Spire. For a long time, my Switch was basically exclusively a portable Slay the Spire device. I've branched out to playing other games with it now, but still dip back in ever so often.
Never managed to proceed very far with the Ascensions, getting Silent up to 6, but the others only at 4. A friend of mine that is even more obsessed and I often feel inferior to in Slay the Spire abilities recently completely ascension level 20 with all bar the Watcher.
Must admit that I don't ever bother fighting the Heart. It feels like you have to go for something too specific in order to be able to beat it.
Favourite decks are the ones that keep drawing and let me constantly play lots of cards. As a result, I hate that Act 3 clock dude as a final boss (even though I understand that is supposed to be the easiest).

I usually try to kill the Heart. Like with any boss, you know it's coming up, so you put things in your deck that will help you beat it. There's no real reason for me not to try.
I try not to do "builds", though. Obviously I take things like Catalyst if I've got a few poison cards as Silent, but the game encourages your decks to be versatile at higher Ascension levels. And you need to be able to block too lol

Yeah block all the way for me with silent, along with having the retain all cards relic I was onto a winner. Helped I didn't have time keeper.
Had a quick go with defect, got to act 3 fairly easily without knowing what I'm doing with him but think that was more luck than judgement.
70 hours and only two completed runs is a bit depressing haha. Prob got to the last boss about 15 times though.

Should we tell him? Nah.
Anyway, Defect is the most fun for me, because he can do Lightning, Dark, Ice and even has some good physical builds. Probably also the easiest, because you can usually put together a decent set of specialized cards because of this broad role palette he can do.
Least fun is either Watcher or Silent. Watcher mainly because I've tried so many times and never managed to complete a run so far, and about three times I was SO CLOSE, JUST ONE MORE TURN. But no.

Silent was my favourite, I have to say - I always like the rogue/bandit/thief archetypes in games anyway, so that helped, plus Returnal showed me the benefits of damage over time (Rotgland Lobber FTW!), so her poison abilities were right up my alley.
I *love* this game.

Defect was the most fun for me.... I love the feedback sounds and effects etc, so getting on a roll with it was like playing the slots.

Defect run done. Found defect alot easier than my silent runs.
Had about three claw cards along with the block that let's you draw a used card. Along with 5 orbs of Frost for defence, made light work of the time keeper.
Now the tri force thing seems to be complete? I assume there is something after with the heart??? I also have the extra character to do.
Not sure I'll get into accentions, I fell down that hole with hades.

Yeah, now that you have the triforce unlocked, you can get parts of it from chests, bonfires and special elite enemies (they look different on the map). If you have the whole together, the game goes on after the third act.

After 10 hours of not doing very well at this I got my first Act 3 + boss completion with the Defect. Frost defence (ok that's handy, take some of that), lot of darkness stacks, slim down my deck rather than taking cards all the time and maybe some lucky RNG on my route, boom finally I'm not totally shit.
A pact with the devil (can't remember if it was an artifact or something that happened in a ? room) that upgraded my whole deck in return for not being able to rest heal also helped somewhat. A lot, probably.
I still can't get to grips with Ironclad. With just 3 energy to play with all the time I'm either blocking for my whole turn or not doing damage fast enough when I can attack. Strength buffs is probably the thing but I keep mistiming them.

I think I won with Barricade + a few Entrench, Impervious and Body Slam cards. Ironclad has some very good block cards, and a few upgraded Armaments basically mean you don't really have to use the Smith option much in your runs.
He can do some other powerful builds, like focusing on Searing Blade, if you get it early enough, Whirlwind + Energy cards like Berserk, Seeing Red and Offering or Rampage + Draw cards, and of course, like you mentioned, strength builds.
Feed card can also be very useful if you get it early.

Was away for the weekend and started playing this on my iPad. Got totally obsessed again and am now playing it on PC as well.
Doing Ascension runs with the Ironclad and having a whale of a time. There is so much beyond what I did with the Ironclad back at release, which most likely was based around Barricade or bust.
I'm still terrible at it and am not doing Heart runs, but having a great time trying out different stuff. Last couple of enjoyable runs have been built around the card that damages enemies if you draw wounds, curses etc, and stacking up wounds with Power Through (15 block + add 2 Wounds).
Haven't figured out a Corruption (all skills cost 0 and exhaust when played)/Exhaust strategy yet. It only appears rarely so hard to test out.
Also, Reaper! Why did nobody tell me about this?

I had two copies! Only got around to opening the unsold one a couple of months ago, and loved it right away.

I've hit a wall at Ascension 10 with the Ironclad, it seems. The penalty introduced at this stage is 'start cursed', which doesn't seem like much but maybe that extra card clogging up my deck is the tipping point? I've only got to the Act III boss once in about ten times, and usually stupidly fail out at the first couple of enemies in Act II - the damn birds, or that stupid sphere thing with all the block.
It seems to me that I'm not getting the tools I need in Act I consistently - a source of big damage and a multiple-enemy card, but I expect those are hard-coded to some degree. I'm getting a bunch of rare cards instead, which are traps because I won't be able to use them till much later anyway. I need to be more disciplined with card pickup, which is the hardest thing for me.
Away for a few days now, so I'll take a good long look at myself.

Exciting stuff.
Trailer only shows 3 characters though, 2 of which were in the first game. Hope they have more than that at launch, as otherwise this looks like it won't be hugely different.
