See, that sounds good. To be fair to you, the ingredients lists and recipes you post normally do sound good. I readily admit that my presentation skills could be better I can't talk, as we discussed with my roast beef dinner the other day, layout isn't really my thing. You might try photographing some things from different angles, though.

It's a ball of rice, apart from the nori wrap, not much you can do! Well you could try garnishing for a start. If you have to take photos of everything at least put some effort in I saved my strength for getting it all in my belly.

Apart from the mayo that looks very satisfying. The mayo gives the flavours a bit more depth. Adds some creamyness to the salty hoisin. I thought you were an asian cooking fan? The japanese put mayo on everything.

I'll be back Of this, I have no doubt. Tbh, food is kinda tricky to photograph really well. Shooting anything top down is difficult because generally, it blocks off some of the light and the best food pics are in natural light. Focus, depth of field and angle are really important, too. (is not a photographer, much)

The japanese put mayo on everything. I didn't realise it was hoisin, interesting. The Japanese use mayo a lot (their mayo), you're right and when I think of okonomiyaki, it's mixed with strong savoury flavours so fair enough.

When I did managed IT services, one of our contracts was with a photography studio that did nothing but food photography and, yeah, its crazy hard to make food look good enough to eat. They had the M&S contract and were doing photography for a new range of ready meals on one visit. They had an entire bank of microwaves, tools, lights and all kind of tricks to make it look good.

Simple but delicious dinner. Onigiri made with roast chicken then marinated in soy sauce, mirin, sake etc. and with seaweed flakes. Juicy Japanese goodness. Are you rationing the seaweed flakes? I can see about 8 spots of green in that pic. Seems kinda sparse. It needs more red or green to look a bit more interesting imo.

Duck Frites Nice! Mayo I presume. What's the brown sauce? Edit - I've read the rest of the comments now.

Hoisin. Its just: Chips Mayo Hoisin Sesame seeds Crispy Duck (From cook. Its the best one. Comes deboned and tastes the best) Spring Onions and chopped chilli (not pictured because the portion was for a chilli wuss) The cook duck is the star of the show. Cant recommend that enough. Its the best shop bought one by a country mile. Its a super easy dish to make, seems fancier than it is and is next level beer food. I had it in a local pub one time and took the idea home with me.

I read somewhere once that a lot of the food in cookbook photos isn't actually food, things like engine oil instead of caramel or mashed potato for ice cream which would melt under the lights
