So far had zero frame rate issues on my X. Very pretty as well. I've had to switch to French though as the kids voice is very annoying and I find the English voice acting sounds like it was recorded in the studio. As in it hasn't been edited to make it sound like they are in different environments.

Unless you have a magic Xbox you are having frame issues but you don't notice them The controls also feel quite muddy at that framerate compared to how it should be. I'm currently on English voices but am in a bit where I'm not spending time with the kid at all really.

Hmm maybe my Xbox didn't download the day one patch as it seems to mostly hold a locked 30 on the latest performance videos with the odd drop here and there. The controls do still feel muddy though at 30 fps and it makes aiming unnecessarily awkward. They should be adding a performance mode really.

Even in the brief cutscenes I saw, the lip sync looked rather off. Wonder if switching to French dub fixes it Is the kid still a whiny little prick? Kids like 10 years old, on the run from a religious inquisition and a swarm of rats across a literal pile of decaying battlefield of bodies at one point and has an incurable illness. He's allowed to whine.

The annoying kid is easier to stomach in French.

Makes sense, everything in French is easier to stomach (cheese, wine, bread etc).

Why did I even bother preloading 47GBs yesterday, if it's now making me download a 45GBs patch?
I dunno, feels like some improvements could be made on that front. Pretty sure the patch didn't update every single asset.

Is that pc Mal? I did my preload and then this morning it did a 44gb update and then proceeded to do it again immediately after it finished. If I had shit internet I would have been really annoyed.

Yeah, on PC. Good thing I have fast internet here, but it sucks that it needs to be like that. Edit: finished the update, tried to launch and now it's updating 47GBs again. Wtf is this...

Managed to give it a very short go, just to see how it runs on the trusty 1650 laptop. It's... not as terrible as I expected, though of course I have no idea if things would get worse later on.
Despite asking for 16GB of memory as a minimum requirement (!), RAM usage was only 6GB in the starter area. GPU usage was expectedly insane at 1080p, even with minimum settings I was running at 15-20fps. The resolution scaler works okay, but looks quite bad if you ask me. Dropping the resolution outright is better (at 720p I was getting 30-35fps), but you still have to contend with the crappy automatic TAA or whatever it uses. What I wouldn't do for a few jaggies nowadays...
There's also no setting to cap the game to 30fps, so that kinda sucks. I suppose the Steam Deck would take care of it, but I'm not sure how well it would run the game at all, given that it's about half the GPU power of my laptop. Maybe less than 480p?

Runs like shit on Steam deck apparently, skillup tried it on his review. Some assets don't even load.

I'm up to chapter 7 and I am enjoying but not so sure it is as wonderful as a lot of reviews are stating. The aiming lock on is still shite, like first game and it feels more like 1.5 than a full sequel. To be honest it is probably a bit more "stealthy" than I was hoping, so I rush through areas instead of soaking it all up. I also think it would benefit from maybe playing one or two chapters daily and not 8 odd hours straight like I have done today (day off work!)

Sweet Jesus this takes around 22 hours. That's put me right off. I'm maybe 2 hours in and the original was 10 hours (perfect).

I have 6 chapters beat out of 16 ? each one taking me around 1 hour to 90 mins, so sounds about right. I mentioned before but I think one or 2 chapters a day is more than enough, depending on how much time you have to game. I agree that maybe 10-15 hours is idea for a story driven sp game, unless it is Gears...in which case I want a 100+ hour campaign

The stealth just isn't clicking with me, so might have to shelve this until I'm actually in the mood for sneaking about. Kind of feels like it came out of the oven too soon and needs a few more performance/IQ patches anyway.

You weren't kidding Duff, played a little, it's very much version 1.5.
Looks more of the same, so hope the story is still interesting enough.

The soundtrack for this is still fantastic and is a big part of why I enjoyed the first one. Really instills a sense of dread.

Made a start on this on the Series S.
I’m sure Digital Foundry will be along with some proper Science on it, but I strongly suspect I’m not getting the best visual experience. It’s very grainy and there’s a constant pixelated fuzz around characters. Hair is particularly bad. Shame, because the actual art looks really nice.
Turning off chromatic aberration helped enormously (I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a game where this is a welcome feature) but it’s still only ok in the visual quality stakes. I’m sure the X and PS5 (or a decent PC) would be much better - the first game was beautiful on the PS5.
I also had some glaring pop-in, visible texture transitions on rocks, and clipping issues - Hugo ran right through Amicia at one point. But the frame rate doesn’t feel too bad so far - seems a pretty consistent 30fps.
And all this is just from the first chapter, so I’m somewhat nervous of the rest of the game when all the rats will be doing their thing.
Gameplay feels much the same as the first game - breaking stealth is pretty unforgiving, slingshot aiming is a bit improved but still not great. It’s… fine.
But!
I’m really enjoying being back in this world and with these characters. Amicia is great (playing with English voices) and Hugo is a lot less annoying than the first game so far. I mean, I think he probably could have grown up a bit between the games, but I didn’t hate him after that first chapter (in which he features a lot!).
I’m glad to be playing it, but I suspect Series S isn’t the best platform. Still it’s what I’ve got and I’m not going to turn down free on Gamepass.

The last 2 chapters while very atmospheric, had moments of total frustration for me. I mentioned before but the combat is not great and you can multiply that tenfold when it sends waves of enemies at you. This was also the weakest part of the first game. The story however is really good and I definitely want to see what happens next. If I were to score it now I think 7/10 is about right.

And done. For me it's a better game in almost every way than the first, the stealth sandbox is excellent and gives a lot of options on ways to do things. The last chapters were so much better this time around other than the beach fight in Marseille which was dreadful. The performance is barely hanging on by a thread though and is what's causing a lot of the frustrations as it make the sling controls a bit muddy at 30fps.
The ending was great though and a complete contrast to the first.

@frog Nice one mate, what was your game time ? you must have played almost nonstop. I'm sitting around 19 hours played with twelve chapters complete. when I "@" you it will not allow me to capitalise the F, well it does but as soon as I go to post it prints as f

I'm not sure mate as I played on 2 different platforms, the last chapters are pretty short in comparison to the others though. You are probably one half decent play session away from completion but you have the worst fight in the game to go.

I can hold 4 Bolts now...when I can find them. Is there anything coming up that was as frustrating as the cart and boss fight in the first game ? Also I found chapter X a total ballache, hopefully that was the worst overall chapter

The beach fight where you can't see properly is the worst bit, the game really creaks during that bit and as a result aiming is harder than it should be. You will know when you get to it, everything after it is super easy. Your 4 bolts will probably help a lot though as I never had more than 2.
