I assume an 84% revenue collapse is at a 'genius' level of fall off?

I was wondering whether or not he just doesn't give a fuck or if he is just incapable of modifying his behaviour but that 'it was funny when I said it to my group of paid hangers on' thing yesterday proves he does genuinely think he's a great poster and its the kids who are wrong.
It is genuinely interesting where this is all going to end up. This will be the first major social media platform to effectively go bankrupt, so he's got that going for him at least.

I think he's genuinely incapable of understanding people have differing opinions and perspectives. I'm convinced he genuinely believes he is right and anyone who doesn't agree with him is wrong.

It was never about the money, though. He can afford to lose it and not bat an eyelid.
This was about controlling a major info source, which they've achieved.

It’s a heady combination of talking points fed to him from his financial backers and yes men put in place by those same backers to convince him he is a stable genius with an entirely reasonable outlook that everyone else shares and that he is just speaking truth to power and everyone loves him. The fact he also has a cult following of edgy arseholes and sunk cost stubbornites who aren’t ready to admit they’re wrong means this is a relatively easy sell to him.
Now why does that setup sound familiar 🤔

I assume an 84% revenue collapse is at a 'genius' level of fall off? He cleverly calculated it to be exactly 84% because it's a clever reference to 1984, which portrays part of the kind of America they want

"Mr Musk has since deleted the post and said it was intended as a joke."
You're 53 for God's sake. "It was a joke" is something you should have grown out of 40 years ago.

The whole...
"one lesson I've learned is that just because I say something to a group and they laugh doesn't mean it's going to be all that hilarious as a post on X." "Turns out that jokes are way less funny if people don't know the context and the delivery is in plain text,"
...thing is smash-head-on-desk dumb.
Like, he's only just learned that?? That thing that everyone else has known for years? That thing that makes social media much more dangerous than just talking to your mates? Having used Twitter prolifically for years and even bought the bloody thing? After everyone telling him repeatedly? On a platform were generally everything is in plain text and no-one knows the context??

Of course he's surrounded by yes men, there's a clip of him sitting with a bunch of employees with one of them saying "Your meme game is very strong." It's all to save face after what appears to be a known visit from the authorities. Nothing about the tweet even read as a joke anyway which sounds absolutely true to form whenever you see him in person trying to crack a joke. The Dave Chappelle thing is the biggest example of it, gets booed by the majority of the crowd for minutes and just turns to Dave all defeated saying "What do I do?". And he gets the last word saying "I'm rich, bitch", which is the most obvious thing to say at a Dave Chappele gig. So much so he's tried to move away from it.

Musk's purchase of Twitter was never profit motivated. It's all about flooding the info space with as much disinfo as possible to help Trump win the election, normalise far right talking points and shift the overton window across the western world so far to the right that anyone left of Mussolini can be branded a Marxist.
If Trump wins Musk can afford to right Twitter off. Chances are though it'll become a government propaganda channel.
If Trump loses, Twitter will absolutely be weaponized against the government.
Musk doesn't care if it makes money as it's true purpose is more valuable.

I think that it's all some mega plan is giving him far too much intelligence, he offered a meme amount of money per share when he never intended to really buy it then realised he'd fucked up by not bothering to do the due diligence to allow him to back out. Twitter's board rightly took the money and ran and his legal attempts to stop it fell apart.

Twitter's board rightly took the money and ran and his legal attempts to stop it fell apart. Yeah, he never actually wanted/planned to buy it, and went to court to try and avoid having to go through with it. Since then, he's pretended he bought it because he's a free speech champion, but it's all just an act. He's using the platform to try and influence politics so his companies (and therefore his bottom line) will benefit.

Twitter has US presidents, world leaders, heads of mega-corps and hundreds of millions of users.
He gets to beam whatever the fuck he wants directly into their face. That level of political and social influence is probably worth burning a few stacks.
