I do genuinely think that self-driving cars are the (eventual) future, and that that is a good thing. But in the meantime, fucking hell guys, maybe keep the hands a little closer to the steering wheel ok.

Maybe they should work on full self cleaning for those cameras the whole things relies on, so you’re not out there rubbing the lens with a sleeve after you run over a pushchair

Police: So what on earth happened for you to run over 3 people and poleaxe that truck with your car at that crossing? “Driver”: Erm yeah, sorry, it’s not doing so well today

If I was a passenger in a car that was being driven like that I'd tell them to pull over and then get the fuck out.

I think driving aids can be a good thing but full autonomous driving is sketchy a.f. I've been in a couple of cars with driving aids and most of the time they are just in the background fairly dormant but if I was driving on a motorway feeling a bit tired, things like LKA are probably a decent thing.
Obviously if you are tired you should really be pulling over and taking a break. I have seen some videos of cars that have braked automatically due to the collision detection sensors kicking in and the driver was glad of the feature.

Isn’t the fundamental problem with Tesla’s autopilot that Musk insisted on normal cameras rather than LIDAR because ’the human eye sees traffic just fine’?

The video elstoof posted explains it, there are solutions to the car not seeing very well but they cost more money to implement (Tesla removed the radar system it had) and Elmo doesn't want to hurt the bottom line. A combo of LIDAR and cameras is clearly the way to go for the foreseeable future but that costs.

I’ve heard on a couple of occasions that lidar needs to be coupled with a cm precision map to function, which means you’d have to scan every street on a daily basis for any changes, which of course is impractical. Just why a point cloud system needs this and a camera system doesn’t, I have no idea.

Computers, or AI rather, only "sees" numbers. It doesn't need cameras. When it gets sophisticated enough, it will know through sheer probability if a pedestrian is crossing at that time of day at that point in the road.

Well hopefully we'll replace the unpredictable pedestrians with AI ones soon.

Well it can’t see street signs nor lane markings, so I’d think you’re going to need a camera regardless

Ah yes, big data. One of those nebulous hand-wavy solutions that can mean almost anything.

The car will use its inbuilt colour picking tool and an RGB table to read the values, it's pretty obvious!

It'd be good if Elon did a Segway Guy and got killed by his 'own' creation.

As if Elon would use his own product, he knows how fucked up they are. He’s the only billionaire who won’t fly in his own rocket

I got rear ended gently in Athens 1h after leaving airport. Cause I did the Australian stupid thing by stopping for pedestrian crossing the road not in the proper place. Fully insured car and it was barely a scratched so didn't care neither did the taxi driver. Mr Elon is getting more unhinged every day. Wonder what will be his breaking moment.

I've always thought of the Multipla* as one of the ugliest POS that's ever been called a car but the Cybertruck is worse. As bad as Fiat's car is it's probably got more cargo capacity than the Muskmobile too.
*I did get a lift in one years ago and inside is certainly the best place, it was actually pretty decent but those looks? Jesus.

Yeah, it looks worse It looks like someone took the chest polygon from an N64 character, stretched it out to the vague shape of a vehicle, popped wheels on it and sent it for review... (no, not even just an N64 car model. They put effort into making it look shit)
