Did anyone else read "Eye Stuff" in the topic name and immediately assume it was some kind of newfangled sex act?
[crickets]
C'mon, it can't have been just me! Anybody? Anyone at all?

I'll, um, show myself out.

I did wonder if it was a questionable title. Might need to check my eyes since I didn't see the other thread.

On a more serious note (as if there's a less serious one), I've needed corrective lenses since before I left primary school.
Always hated wearing glasses, and often refused to do so, resulting in frequent eye-strain headaches; fortunately, I managed to get the hang of contacts after a bit of a struggle, and I've never looked back.
It's almost disturbing how reliant I am on them nowadays! On those rare occasions when I'm out and about without my lenses in - having a checkup at the opticians, for instance - I feel quite vulnerable, due to having vision that'd make your average bat feel ashamed.

Recommendations for frames for reading glasses that are forever on and off/on top of head? You guys...the bane of my life. Metal probably best as at least I can bend it back when you've sprained the crap out of the frame.

I did actually buy a cord so they could hang around my neck but that was a step I wasn't prepared to take just yet!
Ta, dogbot said the same, will take a look next time I am due a pair.

I feel conflicted about my glasses. I really like the frame, it's lightweight titanium, sturdy but fairly thin rims and arms. Looks good. It's exactly the the type of lens I like .
Unfortunately they're branded as being designed by Range Rover, whose cars I hate. It's pretty subtle branding but even so I feel slight disgust at what I've become.

Do they say Range Rover on the arms?

Do they say Range Rover on the arms? Yes, but quite small font.

Yes, but quite small font.
Small by Range Rover standards? 'Cause I imagine that'd still be pretty big - the arms would have to be 1" thick!

I think that's fairly subtle.

Sorry, I didn't take it that way (I never do, I swear). The danger of text is that one's post doesn't always come across as intended, eh? Imagine me huffing, arms folded for effect. It's hard to get that across, but I hoped... If I was going to take offence, I'd be FAR more offended by being called hipster (grrr!) than I would cunt (which seems pretty reasonable). Apart from anything else, I'm nowhere near cool enough to be a hipster.

I've been wearing specs for 40+ years since high-school; there's no ducking way I could use such frameless specs without snapping them in half

You might snap the lenses at a push (although the ones I have are toughened), but the frames are titanium. You'd struggle to break them if you wanted to.

I tried, I couldn't.

Lindbergs are bloody tough and you'd have high index lenses in them to make them tough too. I had a pair 10 years ago, rimless is pretty out of fashion though if you are bothered by that.
They use UV glue for the fittings as well so it doesn't tend to come apart easily.

Tbh, my main reasons for choosing them were that they're subtle (cool or otherwise) and really, really comfortable. I have a different pair of fairly traditional framed glasses and they're great, except after a while, I know they're on my face. I tend towards fiddling, moving them (which then inevitably leads to cleaning them) and they're not great fun when it's really hot. The Lindbergs, I never notice I'm wearing them, so I don't fiddle, don't have to clean them all the time and don't get annoyed by them being on my sweaty face.

Mine are the wire ones, so they look like this: They seem pretty damn strong to me. The flat arms are no less strong. All screwless, too, so they don't come loose.

I made an appointment to get checked for laser correction, I'm borderline in terms of prescription as I'm blind as a bat. Be interesting to see. Very scared of permanent dry eyes but waking up and being able to function sounds like a dream, I'm almost 50 though..

Is it normal to pay £450-ish every two years for two pairs (one backup) of lenses and frames?
Or am I being mugged off by Specsavers?
