It's just a reminder to stay off the internet when you like something. It's hilarious. I'm just looking at all the angry tweets to the devs etc as well. I fucking hate the majority of gamers. They are video games you bunch of stupid cunts. Chill out. Not talking about here btw. I'm just getting irate looking at all the other shit posted online. I don't deny there are legit issues with the game on some platforms (for a game not working correctly on PC, then politely going about getting refund is fine, it's our consumer right), I'm not a fucking apologist. But some of the shit I'm reading has to be taking the piss. Yeah...

Not as surprised as me! Sigh. It’s dark souls 2 all over again. Ha, I was going to ask if it's the DS2 version of Dead Space 😅

I want to check it out, but it’s the $70 price tag that are keeping me at bay at launch. I was going to decide between this, Marvel’s Midnight Suns and Need For Speed Unbounded, but they’re ALL $70 releases. I expected at least MMS to be a $60 title.

So the shader compilation stuttering is apparently due to the wrong file being pushed out because one guy was rushing.
Glen really does seem to be a bit of an asshat. Just take the blame and say it's being worked on as a priority. Plus it sounds like a bullshit excuse unless there's another executable that does shader compilation at launch.

Was watching DF weekly yesterday, this broke Alex. Like he's genuinely depressed about the state games launch in these days.

Anyone that says its just like Dead Space must have a low opinion of it if they think its a valid comparison.

I fucking hate the majority of gamers. Surely you mean 'a (very vocal) minority'? And for gamers, read 'people on the internet'?

But some of the shit I'm reading has to be taking the piss. The Gamers™ are the worst. I’ve not played this but I think the majority of games I really love are in spite of some quirk or jank or whatever that would send them into a frothing rage. I just don’t get how anyone has the energy to maintain so much anger and flip out over something that is probably largely liveable-with. Luckily here we’ve got a crowd of people who just like playing games without identifying as Gamers™

You know sometimes I'm not so sure it's a minority, gaming is so intrinsically linked to the internet and with the stuff you see and hear it's amazing how many people into gaming are such garbage people. The gaming industry also seems to point to the fact that a lot of garbage people have also made some of our favourite games.

Even if I wasn't being too forgiving, it's genuinely not as bad as a lot of people are making it out to be. A lot of the criticisms just don't stack up to my playing experience whatsoever. Things like being overwhelmed by enemies or having them pop up behind you just didn't happen for me. A couple of times I'd face more than one, but when you've got guns and the ability to throw shit about the place, you just don't need to try and take on more than one at once with melee unless you actually want to. The can pop up behind you on occasion but only when they chuck themselves into a vent. You then hear them scrambling about and you know damn well where they will appear as you can hear them, not to mention the fact the blow a hatch apart. I thought the story was perfectly fine and actually ended up quite invested. A few spikes in difficulty but nothing that needed more than 3 or four goes which - with the constant checkpointing meaning you never have to repeat more than 2-3 minutes - meant it was all perfectly surmountable. It's not the first game with a few difficulty spikes and it won't be the last. So what if you have to repeat the odd bit? Christ, back when this was all fields that's all you ever did with games. I know the gaming landscape has changed, but I haven't. That would explain the fact I liked it and some others didn't. My golden era of gaming WAS linear 8 - 10 hour experiences with tricky bits you might have to do a few times.
Good choice of ranged weapons, nice diverse range of locales given there's not a whole lot you can do when you base your game on a prison set on a frozen moon. Sound was awesome, graphics were fucking sublime. I was 9 and a half hours give or take and I think that's a great length.
People have said it's not a horror game. Okay, but I was shitting it through most of it and it was the very definition of a horror game imo.
I could go more in depth if anyone cares, but just wanted to give my thoughts after finishing it.

I bought this against all advice. It was 54.99 not 70 quid. It's not scary in the slightest. It looks stunning. I haven't found it super difficult, once I figured out that if you just shoot them in the legs you don't have to engage in the melee combat system which I admit is not something they should have focused on. I will say that the game does give you many options for dealing with enemies and the levels actively wants you to use the GRP telekinesis ability which makes all enemies trivial.
Some things need changing though, they seem to have gone backwards in terms of features compared to Dead Space, health takes too long to apply, you shouldn't have to go into a menu to listen to audio tapes nor should you have to do the same thing to use battery packs to recharge your GRP. There should also be a quick turn option for a character that lumbers so much.

"one guy was rushing" makes it sound like it wasn't company policy. Didn't Schofield himself essentially laud his developers for being overworked?
Edit:
I didn't much like how Dead Space* was designed in regards to the horror atmosphere, but Doom 3 had similar action/horror schizophrenia problems and it still worked really well for me - both as an FPS and as a Horror game. At least early on. Also, everytime a Horror game is released a lot of people are shouting about how it's "not scary" apparently. And at least with the ones I have played it has never been true for me.
*assuming that TCP is pretty similar in that regard

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a horror themed action title like Dead Space, Doom 3 or Resi 4 being considered a horror game despite a lack of scares.
No one argues the Evil Dead films aren’t horror movies

Actually more I think about it I would describe this game as being very similar to Doom 3, it has a similar structure, similar 'jump scares' and a similar level of linearity.

Yeah, I just see horror as a theme. There's very few (maybe a handful) of horror films that I actually find scary

I often think that the "ugh this isnt scary" crowd lack the self awareness to realise it's because of their lack of imagination. It's the same as anyone who says "why is all comedy rubbish" not realising that they just have a shit sense of humour.
