Worth nothing that Chapter 6 seems to be the turning point. I'm expecting to hit that tonight.

Oh god you're brave.
In all seriousness though please don't buy it on my recommendation. All I can say is how much I like it. The consensus is against me so statistically there's every chance you won't like it as much.

I might text Glen later and say that as I'm one of the few that love his game, would he let me star in the sequel. I don't even have to be the protagonist. I'm more than happy to shamble about in the background with my insides on the outside. It is no good texting me, I have put on "indefinite hold/in swappsies thread!) ...oh you didn't mean me ,did you. I have a very strong feeling this will be on GP within the year. It is great you are enjoying; I think the atmosphere and graphics (Series X) are stunning. I will now wait for High on Life to come out next week, looking forward to that one. Until then I will be playing Gears and a bit of Fraggleroc.

I wouldn't say the consensus is against you, wunty. (well, apart from PC players) I'm still keen to play it and probably would've caved this weekend if I wasn't still making my way through GoWR.
Plenty of other games coming to GP and a backlog I should be working on instead, but I'll probably bite if it pops up on HUKD at a decent price.

I'm surprised to read all the negatively, I was genuinely interested in this.
I only haven't got it yet as I'm trying to stick to a self-imposed rule of if I'm not going to start playing a game straight away then I'm not going to buy it.

Chapters 7 and 8 definitely mar the overall experience and the final boss is complete shite. Ironically, they were the only parts that put up any kind of challenge as I was running low on ammo frequently but you can just buy it from the weapon printers so it;s not really an issue. The first half of the game is definitely good, despite the crappy melee system (it’s so op) and really, really linear design throughout.
Overall the 70-ish metascores are on the money, imo. It’s not terrible at all (on console at least) but it’s not great. If you know you like the genre or the sci-if visuals appeal, I definitely think you’d get something out of it. Probably a bit cheaper than £70 though.
For anyone that cares, it took me 8.5 hours to complete (it really is just a straight line through), and I got the Platinum via the cheese method (you can turn the difficulty up to max after the final boss and it’ll pop the trophy).

No idea how far I am but I'm up to the Colony. Specifically I left it having just taken the lift up to the upper level. Not sure when the difficulty spikes I've read about or inferior part of the game kicks in but not noticed anything to dampen my rampant enthusiasm yet. Still a solid 9/10 for me so far.

I'm still not understanding all the comments about the linearity and how it is a negative thing. Trying to find any pre-release stuff where they said it wouldn't be linear and I can't. Do people actively want every game to need an objective marker or to have endless hours of back-tracking or aimless wandering? I can't recall either Last of Us game being lambasted for their linearity.

Saw a lot of comments that people wanted an open world Raccoon City with Nemesis persistently stalking you when the devs never promised it and they used that as a negative when reviewing the game.

It's just a reminder to stay off the internet when you like something. It's hilarious. I'm just looking at all the angry tweets to the devs etc as well. I fucking hate the majority of gamers. They are video games you bunch of stupid cunts. Chill out.
Not talking about here btw. I'm just getting irate looking at all the other shit posted online. I don't deny there are legit issues with the game on some platforms (for a game not working correctly on PC, then politely going about getting refund is fine, it's our consumer right), I'm not a fucking apologist. But some of the shit I'm reading has to be taking the piss.

I don't think it's anything to do with dev promises, just expectation of what is wanted from a modern title. Skill Up made the comparison to TLoU in his review, and specifically where they differ. Though it's worth noting that the first game did receive some complaints for it and they expanded it a bit in the sequel, and called it out in marketing.
I don't mind the linearity particularly but this is a straight line through the game with, maybe, 5 or 6 tiny little optional loops that I really don't consider a significant deviation from that (each one is maybe 2 minutes long and literally just loop you back to the start of the section, containing a pick-up and 2 or 3 enemies at most). The paths that you're moving down are literal corridors and narrow pathways for the most part (like, 90%). even when you need to find a fuse to unlock a door you're very rarely asked to back-track through previous rooms, and never more than maybe 3, there will normally be a new and direct-route back. The Order comparisons aren't far off, and that's another game that got torn apart for it, with no promises from dev that it was anything but.

It was gone from the PSN store on Sunday when I bought it, though it seems they may have replaced the 'Day One' with 'Standard' and just removed whatever came with the previous version.

Anyway. As I said before. The consensus is against me and I'm going to end up being the sole raving loony standing on the corner of the street handing out leaflets that go straight in the bin twenty meters away. So I'll fuck off out of this thread. I know my tastes diverge often from the majority but I'm so genuinely confused by the reception of this that I think I've struggled to comprehend it a bit. I'm not wanting to change anyone's mind or end up in a constant back and forth. I'm happy with it, so I'm going to fuck off into my dark little corner and enjoy it on my own.

I liked DS 2 as well Wunty probably the one I had the best experiences with in multiplayer. I was a kindly ghost helping people solve stuff. We can go door to door and evangelize about it like a couple of particularly devout Jehovah's witnesses. Not buying Callisto though, on account of being a wuss.

I’ve had a notion there’s a bug with mine with regards the GRP, but it hasn’t mattered until now because I never use it. But I’ve hit a wall with an impossible fight that’s brought all the game’s design faults to bear.
You can’t change weapons during a fight. You can’t reload during a fight. You can’t run or get away during a fight. You can’t open your inventory and use items during a fight. You can’t heal during a fight.
And the GRP automatically using batteries from your inventory doesn’t seem to work either. This particular fight (with a massive fan right there) doesn’t seem possible because the GRP (with one row of upgrades) immediately runs out. Guns are useless against these fucking things that immediately power up.
I think that people who think this game is “just like Dead Space” are going to be pleasantly surprised when they play Dead Space after this. Dead Space’s level design, gameplay balance, , interface and story are genius compared to this.

I barely used the GRP at all. Melee with the starter pistol and riot shotgun were all that was needed until the final boss. Changing weapons and reloading is a serious faff but they are possible. The rest are all true though.
For the mutating enemies you need to shoot them in the tentacles for massive damage. But I typically just dodged > melee x4 > shoot when the hint appears > repeat x 3. As long as you're holding left/right when anything attacks you can't get hit.
