Finished my playthrough of DA:I ahead of Veilguard.
If the Inquisitor doesn't turn up with a crossbow grappling hook for a left arm, I will be quite disappointed.

I thought I start Inqusition last night, Veilguard has piqued my interest but I’m unsure if I’ll continue. I heard the game was standalone ish but it’s clear you are in the middle of a universe that’s been pretty well established and I think it’s going to take a lot of lore reading to get up to scratch. To be fair I was pretty tired and I didn’t really want to read codex’s at that point. Don’t think my brain could compute starting a new game. Might give it a bit more time and see how I get on.
I do have a ps3 boxed up somewhere so could feasily get origins and awakening. There probably a few games on series s I’d like to try that could even justify a purchase. But that’s probably insane. Buying a console to play a 15+ year old game haha.

I abandoned DA2 quite early on as I thought it was awful and it didn't hamper my enjoyment of 3 at all fwiw.

Finished DA:I again last night.
Cole is by a considerable distance my favourite character, partly because he's so unique and well written, and also partly because of his fourth wall breaking comments about everything from the events of the Mass Effect Trilogy to The Sixth Sense.

A bit of Googling failed to yield any information re the review embargo for Veilguard.
This week would be nice, but I'm guessing reviews will drop next Monday or Tuesday.

If EA/Bioware are confident for their game, there won't be a late-date review embargo.

It's EA, so I'd say a few days before launch at the most. Although they do seem to be making some of the right noises lately, so you never know.

Release-week embargoes seem to be the norm these days, even for good guys like Capcom.
Veilguard's due out a week on Thursday, so unless EA is feeling particularly bullish about its prospects, I very much doubt we'll hear anything before next Monday. Would be good, though!

The only thing I've learned in the last few days is that console players get a preload while PC doesn't.

Thanks, Wizzard!
The more I think about it, the more I feel that this game's going to be worth buying, for one reason or another.
If all goes well, it'll mark the start of BioWare's long-awaited comeback; if all goes badly, it'll probably be the last game we get from BioWare, as their days will likely be numbered; and if the truth lies somewhere in the middle, chances are it'll be a decent fantasy RPG with action melee combat, which is kind of my gaming kryptonite anyway.
Roll on next Monday.

Still waiting to see how this reviews. Inquisition was ok, but also a little bit shit, so we'll see.
I've been spending all my time on fallout 76 latterly, so something else would be nice, or fill the void to STALKER2.

Urgh. Watched a few videos of normal previews from established gaming sites and now my YouTube feed is full of gamer gate twats having a meltdown.

I've no idea how this game has become a target for the smooth-brained edgelord crowd.
I mean, they're not exactly known for having rational opinions at the best of times, but why take umbrage with Veilguard in particular? (Obviously it's "woke" in their tiny little minds, but that's just a catch-all term for 'things I don't like' these days - what exactly has triggered the poor little snowflakes?)

Makes me laugh that somehow Metaphor seems to get a pass, despite being the most "woke" game I've ever played if you actually go by the definition of the word.

Going to have to bail on this thread in the next few days. As mentioned Veilguard has really piqued my interest. I've decided I should at least play Inquisition. Was thinking about picking up a Xbox to play the other two games but I can't really justify that at the moment.
Tried to start Inquisition a few times over the last month but I've been too tired or caught up in other games and struggled with it but I sat down properly last night and got into it and feel like I made a proper start with it.
So! Enjoy Veilguard folks

Enjoy Inquisition, Wizzard_Ook! I really enjoyed it, despite its flaws.

Are the DLCs for DA:O and DA2 ever on sale on Live? Wanted to replay those, but had them on PS3.

You could recreate the experience on dragon age 2 by running round your house talking do different people. It's probably a similar size to the playable area in DA2.

A small part of me is hoping that it'll be shit, just so I don't have to add another game to the list...
My crystal ball reckons it'll end up in the high 80s on meta/opencritic.

Does EA Play get a trial of this like it does for FIFA? Would kind of like to give it a go but not sure it'll be for me.

Fextralife has just released an interesting comment video about (the lack of) review codes. Hopefully it's not a bad omen.

Put in 10 Hours or so into Inquisition so far and finding it quite compulsive so far. At times it feels like the game is held together by paper mache but the loop of expanding your influence/camp, getting power and opening bigger quests is addictive even if at times it feels like the game started out as a MMO. Just met the mages under Trevinter’s control so the story is starting to pick up.

I worry Starfield mk.2 is incoming. Bioware are still dining out on their history but it's ancient history at this point; they haven't made anything good in a decade and their recent output has been stuck in the past (in all the wrong ways), directionless at best. Hope I'm wrong as I've got fuck all to play right now.

I'm hoping for the best while expecting the worst. (Hey, that's pretty catchy! I should write it down.)
Given the tumultuous history of this game's development - being retooled from a single-player game to a multiplayer one, then back again; personnel coming and going on a regular basis; Andromeda and Anthem both flopping, thereby putting extra pressure on Dragon Age as a franchise; the name change from Dreadwolf to The Veilguard, that barely anyone seems to like (get rid of the 'The' and it wouldn't be so bad!); the crappy hero shooter-esque character reveal trailer from this summer, that got ratio-ed to hell at YouTube; and probably some other stuff I'm forgetting - a solid 8/10 product would be a minor miracle at this point.
I really hope it'll be good, though.

I see there's some early doomsaying doing the rounds on social media due to a few prominent YouTubers (FextraLife, SkillUp, ACG, etc.) not receiving review codes lol
