So after finishing Still Wakes the Deep (amazing) and Thank Goodness You're Here! (amazingly stupid) I took a punt on Bleak Faith Forsaken, which came out last week. I'd heard a bit about it and seen some gameplay and that was enough to convince me I'd enjoy it. It's kind of Hellpoint level of jank (solid B tier soulslike) and it genuinely looks like a PS3 game. Now I know I have rants about people using that kind of statement, as normally the game in question looks NOTHING like a PS3 game but this one genuinely does. Look up some footage. It looks like Dark Souls when it released. My god though. It is fucking BRILLIANT so far. Exploration is dialled up to the nth degree. It's easy to get completely lost, but also a joy to get completely lost. Combat is actually pretty damn responsive and fast, and - crucially for some perhaps - you don't lose experience upon death, or need to reclaim any "souls". It's dark, almost too dark, relentlessly bleak, non-sensical and blessed with one of the best soundtracks I've heard in a game (this the same year as System Shock - another amazing soundtrack - I'm spoiled). If you can overlook the fact it's janky, very rough around the edges visually, and quite overwhelming at first then it gets its hooks in you. Before you know it you don't know where the fuck you are, miles from safety, enemies lurching out the dark as this awesome dark ambience assaults your ears.

The answer, is to buy more.
Which is what I seem to be doing.
I really need to stop.

I do so love Wunty's enthusiasm for gaming. Anytime I start to feel jaded, his posts reinvigorate my interest.

I've just started Rise of the Ronin on the PS5.
Better than Ghost of Tsushima, apparently. So far, it seems to lack the smooth, slickness and some of the polish and definitely, the sense of calm during combat. Maybe I'm just shit at it. But it's an open world progression, so I'll stick with it for now.
On the backburner:
Mount and Blade: Bannerlord - Really enjoying it, but joined a country and the bloody king keeps on declaring stupid wars, which has made doing anything a bit shit. I will go back to it and see about telling him where to stick his castles and his daughter at some point.

This War of Mine
Great game that doesn't get talked about often enough. Feels weird to say that I really enjoy this game (especially in the current climate) but it's true. I come back to it every six months or so for a run through.
Building up your house, keeping the survivors warm and well fed and trying to be as altrusitic as possible when scavenging makes for an involving, tense experience.

One of on my to do list but I always think how depressing it is and never install it. From reviews I watched it's just so depressing

On the backburner: I have completed both Got and RotR, loved both but GoT is by far the better game (for me at least) They are different as well, GoT is far more story focused Ronin is basically AC, which is fine as I enjoy those. Oh Yeah!

Just finished Robocop on PS5 after picking it up for £25.
Graphically it’s a mixed bag. The environments are terrific but there’s all sorts of glitching going on in the cutscenes which ruins the immersion.
In terms of gameplay, it’s a solid 8/10 whenever it’s Robocop taking out the bad guys with a variety of weapons (although none are as satisfying as his standard pistol).
Unfortunately it drops to a 3/10 whenever Robocop decides to become Sherlock Holmes. Those sections are insanely dull and I skipped all of the cutscenes to get back to the shooting.
Overall 5/10

I'm really enjoying rise of tomb raider.
The combination of gameplay being in small pieces, with clear path and goal (like tombs and story segment) and more open areas with hunting and exploration really works for me.
It allows smooth straightforward, directed, gameplay but then allows exploring and freedom to tackle random content at own leisure.
Just in the beginning really. 15 percent according to the game. Blew up 5 radio masts.

Unicorn Overlord (SX)
Once you get past the "JUST LET ME PLAY THE FUCKING GAME ALREADY!" intro and start to get into the open world stuff it picks up a bit, but my god that was an off-putting first few hours... The possible formations feel a little overwhelming at first even with a handful of classes unlocked.
I can definitely see me falling for this in a big way.

Seems OK so far. Feels like a pretty standard "I must reclaim the throne that's rightfully mine! (and I've got a magical McGuffin that will allow me to do so)" kind of yarn, but I've quite enjoyed some side quests expanding on the other characters.
Art style is classic Vanillaware, although there's been a distinct lack of massive tits so far...

Not too bad to be honest. Very manageable. The hardest part is actually figuring out where to go. Sprawling and overwhelming doesn’t even begin to describe it. I get truly lost every time I play it. Spent the last few sessions going one way, and unlocked a couple new areas. Thought I’d go back to the big main hub area and then found another route that lead to no less than another seven or eight possible paths. It’s insane.

Is that good or bad? That aspect actually does really put me off their games It's relatively restrained imo. There's a few characters with the old heaving bodice, but overall I don't think it's nearly as horny as some of their other games. Though there is a very, very large woman, like a Brienne of Tarth but more. Ymmv on whether that makes you erect.

Yeah, meant that as a joke but it's definitely a positive for me. So far it feels like something I can play without worrying about my missus walking in and tutting.

I love the art design of Bleak Faith based on some trailers / reviews and don't mind some jank (I was one of the five people who really liked Hellpoint). Will try it out later but looks promising, especially as I'm into exploration and getting thoroughly lost.

If you liked Hellpoint (as did I) then you should like this, it's a similar level of, polish, shall we say. It's easily the most lost I've ever been in a game though. The areas are absolutely massive and the atmosphere is just glorious.
Hope you like it!!!

Is that good or bad? That aspect actually does really put me off their games There's a few fanservicey outfits around, but when it comes to "back pain"-level... personalities there's really only one or two (unique, you can also recruit/fight generics) playable characters that really stand out, neither of them have overly sultry demeanors and only one of them is wearing a revealing outfit to go along with it. Other than that it's mostly just thighs.

(spoilering for current players' sakes) Yeah, Amalia was pretty fun to see being like twice everyone else's size just because I also liked figuring out the tactics to get through her while underlevelled, and when she went Super Saiyan after I beat her once (IIRC Hilda soloed that second one, but I don't have my video handy and don't know how to link it here short of posting on YouTube or something) Berengaria wins out for me though, I think. Guess I often end up liking the kind of woman who can kick my ass

Dungeons of hinterberg.
Nearly at the end. Few dungeons to do. It's an enjoyable if little bland dungeon crawler. Not as full on as Persona with stuff to do after the dungeons, and no teams in the dungeon, but I have enjoyed it's gentle pace and charm.
Except for that space harrier on rails bit which was easily do-able, but with loose aiming and not great mechanics was a smidge irksome.
