Got my bike back this morning.
I'm supposed to be in the office tomorrow but fuck it, I swiped in and out today so I'm taking that as the second of the two mandated office days-per-week.
The only reason I enjoy going in is because it's nice to get out but as I'm feeling a bit fucked off, I won't even get that currently. Let's go in and join teams calls whilst barely speaking to anyone in the office, what a great use of time.

My team have started doing regular breakfasts and lunches together instead of just sitting there staring at our collective screens all day.
Which sucks for me, as I usually sleep like shit before my office day and have to try to be all social while running on fumes.

We've got someone retiring today and we're all off for a team dinner in a pub. Christ. I hope I can get a back seat somewhere. I can't stand meals with work colleagues I don't know, all being chirpy and happy. Argh. Just let me do my job and leave please! /grumps

Work lunches with colleagues can be bad enough. Who wants a meal and to talk about work for two hours.
Tried it with a rule of no talking about work and half of them sat in silence.

I always made sure I sat with my team, when it was a lunch. For Christmas they fucking love to mix everyone up, so you get sat with someone I have nothing in common with. "Ah great that is lovely you have two kids"... "Oh nice, yeah Audi is a great car"..

I'd actually be happy enough to do lunch with my colleagues but none of my team are based in my office so I can't even do that.
I don't mind really but it does make going in entirly pointless.
I suspect there's going to be initiatives to get teams based in the same location, they've already stopped business areas hiring nationwide, they can only hire into their designated "hubs". Things are becoming much less flexible from a location perspective (not even considering the hybrid/WFH, just the location strategy).

If I had a good team I wouldn't mind team breakfast or lunch, I see other people do it and it can be good if you get on. Rest of my team is in another office hours away. We have a office meeting with our externals tomorrow and free lunch cards, so not too bad but there is 2 people on my team (out of 4 people now) I couldn't stand them each week in forced team lunch or breakfast.

I don't mind a group lunch/dinner out. It all depends if you can sit near some decent folk for a laugh.
Most folk here have been here for a good while, so we all know each other really well. I would avoid a few, but in general, we all get on fairly well. From some other responses, this doesn't seem to be a regular thing!

In my last place I generally got on with most people apart from specifically 2 people who were absolutely nauses but I specifically wouldn't sit with them and vice versa.

I fucking hate watching and in particular listening to a lot of people eat, coupled with one tier (the Linked in Lunatic contingent) only wanting to talk about work and another tier only wanting to rant about the other side and it’s shite.
The only good socialising with wider people at work was always the smoke/vape breaks, because whether at work or at a pub that’s a camaraderie which can’t be explained but that generally works; but even then sometimes I really wanted it as a reason to escape and stand on my own for five minutes.
It’s tough being an introvert/misanthrope/misophonia sufferer in these scenarios.
The absolute worst thing with the eating is people talking to you through a gob full. Just swallow first please.

I generally enjoy team lunches/pub trips etc. I have nice colleagues even if they are incompetent. My leaving drinks were last Wednesday and that was great, sitting in an old man pub in Waterloo chatting absolute shit. Both work and non-work. It's pretty fluid.
We also had a leaving lunch for someone I line manage who the team basically hated. That was more awkward but just about navigable.
I'm naturally an introvert, but I've always worked with people generally even more introverted than me. So I tend to end up driving the non-work chat/jokes etc. because I do find it excruciating when my colleagues can't get out of work mode. I tend to just latch onto the first hint of something non-work and make a bad joke out of it or whatever. Slowly it takes off but once they've had a drink or two and they're in flight, it's a lot better.

I definitely have and do work with people who can't abide work small talk/drinks. And I feel pretty sympathetic to those people. It's like the who experience just doesn't register to them. Everyone else might as well be talking another language and they sit there awkwardly pushing out a grin or nodding occasionally :x

I'm okay with small talk with people I know and work with, absolutely hate making small talk / networking with people I don't know.
If I'm in a work social event with people I don't know well (for example, an office based social event with people who aren't in my team) I'll barely say a word then sneak off early.
I meet people best by having a project to work on with them. After that I'm usually more comfortable with them and can talk with them easily. But I hate just making inane chat with strangers without some sort of focus.
I'm like that outside of work too, horribly socially anxious. It's why I like boardgames, far easier for me to meet people if we're just focused on wooden cubes. Then after a few games I might start to chat about other crap. But the game is there for when things dry up.
If we all just communicated via antiquated web forums I'd be happier.

Aw God, this pub dinner thing is pretty cringy Get some more pints in your system, then, surely? No beer during work, it transpires. Which I don't mind. But... Carvery? Check All cramped together next to people you don't know? Check Manage to get lumbered next to someone who is not engaging at all in anything? Check Long service people making loud puerile jokes, making you guilty by association? Check Everyone talking about work? Check Feeling lonely yet? Double fucking Check. I like the place and the job but fucking hell, these dinners do my head in. Maybe it'll be easier in years to come.

I absolutely draw the line at work socials. I will perhaps with gritted teeth agree to go to the team lunch at Christmas, beyond that though I'm sorry I'm washing my hair that day.

Our Christmas party is at a ball pit this year. The web site has lots of hilarious ball related innuendos. I'm getting too old for this shit.

Good work mrpon.
Enforced workplace fun is a rarity these days. Usually only 2-3 times a year including Christmas. I do sometimes nip to the pub for a drink when in the office to buy someone in the team a well deserved drink but that's about it.

We are doing indoor miniature golf. Only half of us are even going this year, the rest of them haven't even bothered to make terrible excuses for why they aren't.

Our division is almost exclusively middle-aged men but there's only a handful of us based in London so we get put in with the advertising division we share an office with. Even so, I wouldn't say most of them are that young so I'm surprised they went for this. And it's on a Wednesday in early December, fuming about that.

I've never had a work Christmas do on a Friday, Wednesday seems eminently normal!
