One thing that does irk me a bit is missions where despite having a weapon that will stun people the game doesn't let you take them alive and you have to kill them. Bit of a missed opportunity there. The npcs still do that Bethesda thing of trying to crawl away but there's no way for them to surrender

It's pretty much the first Ryujin quest. And yeah, they do get a bit more interesting (although even that one was decent imo) There are also some awful stealth missions. The first one I finished with a lot of quicksave spam, but for the second one I'd highly recommend just going in all guns blazing. It seems to barely make an impact. Haven't touched this quest and have read that stealth is a pain. Out of interest is it the spacesuit you are wearing which could not be helping with sneaking? Maybe take it off completely?). I was wearing the stealth apparel they gave me, a spacesuit with the Chameleon ability, maxed stealth level, AND one of the aid items that improve stealth, and I was STILL getting caught more often than not. The problem is it makes you jump and boost to get to sneaky routes, and I think that counts as not crouching/ not stealth for a second. I did get through without shooting anyone eventually, but it took quite a bit of trial and error. Also, something you get just before that mission does help a lot if you use it as much as possible. (the Manipulation ability - just ping a guard and run right past him)

Ok, I am about 110 hours into Starfield. I raved about the game initally but I can certainlly feal fatigue hitting now and to be honest I will be happy when its over now. I don't think it helps that there are so many other games I want to play as well. I am about half way through the final faction mission (Crimson Fleet) and have about 5 main missions left, so I am definitely on the final straight. I have decided there is far too much UN-interesting dialogue in this game. Even the UN-important characters such as receptionists you can ask trivial things like if they enjoy their job. And they drone on about it!! It was fine at first, but after 100 hours I just want to move this along and so I am sticking to just vital dialogue options. Overall I would say I have had a good time with the game, it certainly must be doing something right to keep me invested in 100+ hours. But the lack of exploration does make it feel like I am just fast traveling from point A to point B. It certainly misses that sense of exploration than Skyrim and Oblivion had. The first 50 hours I give this 10/10. The Second 50 hours I give this 8/10. 100 hours + I give this 6/10.
If Bethesda continue with their Creation engine, I don't think I will even entertain the idea of getting Elder Scrolls 6. At times, the game can look stunning, mostly some of the interiors and the incredible level of detail. But mostly, the game is overshadowed by some really outdated game design and mechanics. It really is a mixed bag.
This mirrors my experience pretty closely. I've had a great time with it for the first 50hrs odd, but the narrative pull has started to wain a bit and it's beginning to feel a bit checklisty where I boot it up, do a few missions (which vary in quality massively) and close it down again. It has lost the compulsiveness it once had, much earlier than the very best Bethesda games managed. What's a bit mad, is the fact that I can't help but think about the prospect of DLC really transforming some of the game play systems so they become more essential, despite the fact I have loads of content left. I must be 100hrs in and I think I've done about 2/3rds of the main quest and a third of the USC and Ranger quests. Not even started the Ryujin ones yet. Is there a consensus as to whether it's better to focus on one faction at a time? I've kind of jumped between them on a whim thus far and wondering if I'm making it less coherent as a result.

I've tended to focus on one faction at a time, the narrative seems to flow better that way (though it does mean things tend to escalate quickly, like the UC one). I did leave a lot of them until I'd done most of the main quest, which probably isn't optimal in actually using the rewards.

It looks like they fixed the Loot puddle Vendors: Addressed an issue that allowed for a vendor’s full inventory to be accessible.
but fixed the razorleaf weapon racks

I'm still rather aimless in this. I have a team of quests in my log but I'm not doing any of them. I just meander about and do whatever takes my fancy. I actually did goundpounder by accident just by being in orbit while moseying about.

This doesn't help either I'm afraid! 🤣 In Skyrim you can access the khajit merchants chest in Dawnstar by pointing at a certain spot near the mine entrance. The "loot puddles" seem to be a more widespread version of this.

That guy's horrific bit of voice acting meant I threw him under the bus first chance I got. Didn't go as far as trying to kill him though.

I'm begining to reach the conclusion that EG were not entirely off point with their review (though harsh imo). This is a massive, admirable, enjoyable, detailed and impressive game (9/10) (and god I love the doors!) BUT the content stretched as far as it is and the lack of consistency in places (for all you adventurous types) DOES bring it down at times to probably a 6/10... can games be range scored?
6-9/10 depending on your play style?!
Nearly 30hrs in and I'm actually stopping where I am (just out of AC and wondering what to do next), deleting my save and plan to play again in 6-12 months time once the major bugs ets are patched out (Yes I realise there are next to no game breaking ones). When I return to start again I may be on a Gen 2 X (instead of Gen 1 S) and I am definitely going to just follow the quests rather than what I did which was to primarily explore everything within a system first and then secondarily quest... I think it will be a better game for it and some of you fine peeps have backed that up.
For now back to the massive backlog! As a new and first time GP subscriber I have about 10 indie games I want to get through before they drop off GP!
/salutes, puts back his kipper and won't be back for quite a few breakfasts!

I think EG was quite fair, the game had massive hype (a lot by Mr snake oil salesman Todd) and when gamers actually found the truth it was disappointing (for me it was the most disappointing game of this year) and I knew it was BGS game going in

Think the EG review was bang on. It's also entirely fine to enjoy a 3 star / 6/10 game, whilst accepting much of it is an absolute hot mess.

Oh yes, 6/10 can be fine like sunken city (which is like fallout 3 in jank) but SF was suppose to be this "magnum opus" and shill sites where acting its the greatest game ever ever made
I am still amazed on some of the mods and ships gamers are creating (without mods), way better than the ships ingame to buy

Oh yeah. The metacritic for SF is wayyy too high. Their choice to restrict review copies to specific sites seems to have paid off as the most gushing ones definitely came out first. IGN was a surprise mind.

It’s such a shame, but for a jewel in the crown acquisition, it doesn’t feel like a game that is a labour of love at all.
Having played it now, Cyberpunk feels like what I would imagine a next gen Bethesda title would/should be like.
It’s not just the technical side either. Cyberpunk feels like a labour of love. The characters, the writing, the detail on the world and world building. The (yes now revamped) systems and gameplay options all feel more fleshed out. The thought put into the world, the skills, the immersion, the lore, the player experience and systems all feel a quantum leap ahead.
I’m sure Bethesda had many great plans they couldn’t fully implement or implement at all due to their engine. But it still feels like a lazy last gen reskin of their previous games, not a giant leap forward for the studio of their genre. Makes me wonder what they have been doing for 8 years working on this.
It’s still a charming game, it is fun in its own way. But more like playing an old retro game you are cozy and comfortable with. Familiar and safe.
Cyberpunk makes me wish CD Project had made this game instead

I really don't mind the wonky physics or character interaction model as it's just that engine and how they create stuff. Would I like something more modern ala cp2077, sure who wouldn't, but it isn't stopping me enjoying it. If you've been back and visited any of their previous offerings anytime recently it's quite clear to see how more advanced SF is.
My only real gripe with them if I'm honest is their insistence on transitional loading animations such as enter/exit crafting benches, cockpit etc. They just keep doubling down on them, adding more and more granular transitions with stupid animations for every. single. one. Fuck that noise! Guaranteed you forgot something or accidentally exit it to have to watch the animation and then have to load back in.
I have lost count of how many times I've been in a space dogfight and all of a sudden the camera cuts back and I have to watch the stupid exit animation as my ship is getting fucked from all sides. Then you have to load back in ... dead!

Oh... Didn't realise that even came with different rolls. I gave it to my follower which probably wasn't the best choice, as their head kept disappearing due to chameleon.
I never really bothered with save scumming elite enemies, even though it's ridiculously easy. Gear is calculated on death, so just quicksave right before you kill one of the dudes with multiple health bars and keep killing them until you get something useful.

Yeah, the Mantis armour doesn't lock in the legendaries until you remove one of the pieces from the stand. I scummed a few elites early game to get some decent starting gear early on, which is a lot quicker process than trying to get god rolls on 3 pieces simultaneously.

Wowza, companions aren’t exactly shy are they? I had a nap on a single bed in an Outpost room with 2 other people in it, nowhere else for them to go, and my betrothed was still like “well that was exhilarating, you sure you’ve only got 2 hands?”. Guess attitudes to public sex are a bit different in the 24th century.
