On the inventory/cargo issue... how are you guys managing those?
I was chucking spare inventory stuff into my ship cargo, but... I think half of my cargo is full of resources now, which I don't actually know how to use despite playing for 15 hours. I can't even pick up Ship Parts...
So basically everything is full. Is there not some storage mechanic with infinite space somehow?

Is there not some storage mechanic with infinite space somehow? There’s the box in the lodge next to all the workbenches which has infinite storage. I put more resources in there and then take and use them in the lodge to craft things as needed. Still feel like I need more space though!

Or you could just stop picking crap up, because you don't really need it anyway.

Aye, I pretty much only pick up up ammo and weapons to sell now. Not sure if they're the most efficient way, but given shopkeepers shitty money cap and the wild variation of values of misc/resources, they seem like one of the less faffy thing to sell.

That money cap is annoying. Often end up buying loads of extra ammo instead of the few digipicks i want just to save schlepping over to another merchant.
Thankfully, I'm awash in credits anyway, since the gear/weapons for sale are generally worse than those you can loot from quests.

Or you could just stop picking crap up, because you don't really need it anyway. The problem with this, for me personally, is I’ve heavily invested in weapon mods. Done all the research I can, got a good set of guns I like for all scenarios, and now I’m tracking all the resources for the mods I can’t build with the ones I already have. That’s been my strategy for the entire game, I haven’t just picked up every single thing. But tracking marks *all* of the resources needed for the thing- regardless of whether you have none or hundreds. And I can’t remember, once I’m in the store or clearing out the base, whether it’s the Europium, the Microsecond Regulator or whatever that I had none of- so I’m still gathering tonnes of stuff I don’t need, even when I try to be selective. And that’s just for weapon mods - I don’t know how anyone manages to have the right components to build weapons, suits and outposts without picking up every single resource they find. Or maybe running to Neon with an actual shopping list.

And don’t get me started on how if I want to build my own Microsecond Regulator, that’s locked behind one of the top tiers of the Science tree.

Or you could just stop picking crap up, because you don't really need it anyway. Excuse you, as Awkward Zombie, Penny Arcade and even VG Cats all so lovingly demonstrate, 'tis the mark of every trueborn, red-blooded gamer (especially in an RPG) to pick up and hoard every single thing that they find, and never use it 'til the credits roll because what if they need it later (or because, in some cases I could mention, they can't be arsed to figure out what they do )

I have finally got round to modifying the star eagle. It looks much better if you take the fins out and move the sides in. Just need to find some shielded cargo storage now.

I know it's hard, but the real carry limit is in your head.

Come on now, one spacesuit I can get behind, but one weapon? I’m not the companion in this relationship, I need options.

Tbf I don't understand what half of the fucking stats on the spacesuits mean, so I take those thinking maybe I'll need that in an electricity storm or whatever.

"Cannot fast travel, you need to undock." Fuckkkkkk offffff Genuinely did not bother me until I had to go back onto the ship orbiting Porrima (paradise planet). I'm willing to give this game some leeway because I'm enjoying at the moment but having to backwards and forwards as a diplomat was shit. Also I wasn't happy with the available options to resolve the situation. I've stopped picking shit up cos I can't be arsed with managing it. Love it in fallout, here it just feels at odds with the playstyle. My ship is my base, I want everything there, not to have to go to the lodge and store it.

It's one of so many choices they've made that actively make the game less fun to play.
See also: having 5000 different medical items each for a different affliction, plotting courses through regions you haven't yet explored, making you leave your outpost to open the menu to build inside the outpost, airlocks followed by loading screen doors, making ship weight limits so lame in the builder, non-trackable resources, making B the button to open the menu in outpost building but the button to leave ship builder, making you pay to do basic moves like stealth and pickpocket and on and on.
I've also gone big on weapon mods so pick up loads of resources but even without that, I'm always encumbered because I do like to enjoy playing games so having just one weapon isn't my style, but each to their own 🤣
More curious than their passion for finding ways to make things less fun is is why I'm still playing put 60 hours into it without any sign of slowing up.

There is a big difference between three and 35. Yes 35 would be excessive. I have three suppressed weapons in the right section of the favourites- short to medium range. Three loud weapons in the left section, same pattern (shotty, regulator, bridger - and I wouldn’t be without any of them). Up is for snipers - I have a lawgiver for suppressed long range and an old earth hunting rifle for extra long range. Down is meds, knife, non-lethal. 10 weapons. Still plenty under 100 encumbrance and I can pick and choose. But it does lead to the aforementioned complexity of weapons mods and resources to craft them…

To be positive for a moment, I think the things I'm enjoying are: setting down on a new planet and wondering what the biome is going to be like, who I'll find, etc; some of the quest lines _are_ intriguing even if they fizzle out; and the guns are actually satisfying to shoot. The enemy AI is dreadful, it's basically whack-a-mole but it's usually brief enough that something else of interest pops up soon after.
It's also very easy to play slouched on the sofa. Finding it an antidote to Dark Souls which I was playing before this.

I've put most of my money into my ship for the reason. Also top tier pilots license. It's not a looker but I have 2500 cargo capacity and 360 shielded, and a whole arsenal of weapons. Unlocking class C reactors makes a big difference. I just shove everything into my ships storage.

I genuinely like a game loop if explore/adventure and loot some shit and then a bunch of superfluous inventory management and repairing/upgrading. Having a nice clean loop of progression as I adventure/build/expand feels good but it's feels like they've actively removed this from the game by making it prohibitively awkward.
Maybe the solution is like above and just build a big fucking ship and cart it all around

Decided to stop using companions - quite a nice change of pace. I am more cautious and enjoy not being browbeaten by them just because I don't do something they approve of. I accidently shot a UC soldier during a big fight - wow Andreja was so pissed off and said she was going to leave when we hit the next starport (didn't help I had to shoot a NPC with a non-lethal gun to bypass bug earlier). Oddly, she is still with me. I recruited a pissed up chef so may hang with him when I need help with encounters as everyone else is a bit...dull (Barrett is actually alright and has some funny lines).

Encountered a bug with the ship builder. It said Nominal in blue, finalised the ship, left the builder menu. Went back to it later to upgrade, and without my having changed anything it claims the ship has unattached modules. Can't even paint the thing now.
Good thing it was one of the ships I purchased rather than a quest reward one, as I really can't be arsed to pull the whole thing apart piece by piece and put it back together again, so I'll be selling it and starting again on another one.
