Boba Fett/Mando style armour. Proper hiding your spacesuit in habitable areas. The ability to unlock the size limits on ship building. New ship part sets to use. Thank you mods. I'm happy enough with all that for now. Guess I'll be mentally sketching out ship designs and setting up outfits for the gang.
Was going to be going with the Tactical Dirt version, but for some reason some of its files are quarantined and have been for a while. Ah, I'm just talking about them being available on console now, assuming they've been on PC for a while. And the new Tracker faction is just one quest, then radiant bounties to unlock some more "elite" quests ? Seems fine for a free update tbh. Tarted my ship up, outfitted crew with Tracker gear, and let's go. Mando fun can wait until later, just before my month of Ultimate runs out.

Huh. I’m having some issues with mods. Firstly, I can’t get any mod that relies on my room at the lodge to work. There’s no case with a shiny new space suit no matter how I mess with the load order or hard reset. And another mod I installed for boxes with infinite resources, ammo and credits works fine for the first two, but the container for infinite credits is meant to be in my room at the lodge and it’s not there. More concerning is my save’s at the point where you build the armillary and go through the Unity, which I’m not ready to do yet… but the new Tracker Alliance quest gives you a “decoy” ship to pilot, and when I enter it the armillary is built, but I can’t find it to remove it. So I can’t do that quest without going through the Unity and ending the game. They’ll probably patch it but it’s a bit of a shame that I seem to be locked out of the new content unless I go NG+++ first.

Only thing I could think of is building a ship with the same cockpit, transfer to that and see where the armillary is located there, if you can. It's normally an extra little panel next to the cargo/locker panels, no ?
But yep, oversight is far more likely.

I get the more cheat like mods but why would a Batman outfit disable achievements?

I assume it’s because they don’t want to have to check the code for every single mod and make sure there’s nothing sneaky in there that’s not in the description.

Don't really use Gamepass so how do dlc add-ons work, are they free or are they expecting cash monies for shattered space?
EDIT: answering my own question. I need to upgrade to get it. Well that seals it then, I won't be getting it on Gamepass. I'll keep an eye out for a cheap key to get up to speed on steam. Now off to Google I've I can transfer my save over

I think I am about to give this a go. If not tonight, then this weekend. If this sticks, it will be the first Bethesda game I have ever enjoyed (outside of Fallout Shelter, which I suspect is by an entirely different developer).
Any spoiler free tips I should know going in, or do I just go in blind and try to enjoy it whatever happens?

Go in blind, but also follow the main quest for a little bit before getting distracted too much with side quests and activities. No spoilers but you should know when.

Yeah, just go in blind. The fun in Bethesda RPGs comes from just heading off in a direction and seeing what you find.

Awesome! Cheers folks. Will stick to the main quest until it feels right to deviate.
I tend to find myself checking every nook and cranny in RPGs, simply out of fear I might miss something forever. Do I need to worry about that? I know I spent a long time exploring the first areas in Fallout 4, but there was little reward. Is that the case here too?

It’s hard to allude to without risking even minor spoilers, but I’d say if you usually have the mentality that you want to see everything before finishing the game - really don’t worry about that as much in this game

Sweet. Thanks. I’ll stop with the questioning now. I realise that as I’ve got older I can become frustrated that games aren’t what I want them to be, rather than accepting them for what they are. I’m just going to try and go with the flow this time.

Dialogue Camera Toggle is the first thing I'll be hitting when I get back into it, although based on the little preview on that article, it doesn't half look like that woman is staring ahead at the angle the zoomed in conversation would have taken, rather than looking at your character.

It’s very early days, but I’m actually quite enjoying this. I’ve only just left Mars, and I haven’t really deviated from the main quest yet, but I finished this evening’s session craving more.
My save file is only 5 hours at the moment, which might be quite slow, but I’m still getting my head around the general game design and theory of Bethesda games. I’m guessing it’s not great business sense to steal and sell every microscope and gold-plated statue I find on my adventures. Neither is it worth my time to stop and look at every desk, in every room, in every building.
I also thought the idea of menu hopping through space might be annoying, when compared to the more fluid and immersive experience No Man’s Sky offers, but it’s actually quite satisfying in its own way. The controls are a little awkward, but I like the idea of navigating space with maps and visualised solar systems. It’s still immersive in its own way. You still feel like a captain plotting your course.
I’ve split my 5 hours over both consoles and I think it’s a looker on both. I haven’t figured how to get 60fps on Series X, but I’ve had no issues with 30 and it might make switching between the two consoles a little jarring anyway. It still looks great on both platforms. At least the environments to. Especially the indoor ones, which are crammed with details. The characters and animations look pretty janky though and light doesn’t hit them very well. They all end up looking a bit flat.
I know you folk have pretty much said all there is to say about this game, but this is a big deal for me. I have literally bounced off Oblivion, Skyrim and Fallout 4 at roughly the 10 hour mark. There’s always been something janky about a Bethesda game that kills my interest. Especially in regards to how they look and how they feel to control. With Starfield, however, I’m not really feeling that at all. It’s been very satisfying to play. Even the pacing, which is admittedly on the slow side, has suited me fine.
5 more hours and this automatically becomes my favourite Bethesda game! I’m glad I’ve given it a go.

You need to switch to 60fps, the responsiveness makes the game so much better to play. Don't remember it being hard to do, graphics menu, set to performance, set target fps to 60. I have a VRR TV and, with the exception of a couple of the big hub areas, the performance feels really solid and it still looks great.

I'm wondering if dangerousdave would enjoy Fallout: New Vegas. Because it's a "Bethesda game" not made by Bethesda. Also, I'm wondering how long the enjoyment of Starfield will last. Probably more than 10 hours. At least I hope so.

I've been bouncing around with the bounties/Trackers update, and still finding the odd wee untouched mini mission. Last one was a new colony of convicts trying to start afresh, bit with some shady goings on. Full VA'd conversations and staging etc, which was a nice surprise, as much as the rewards I got for being a smooth charmer.
And I'm still in love with the overall aesthetic.

The bones of a decent game is here it just needs some tweaking to give some of the side stuff a reason for existing. I am glad theyre committing to expansions and content. Hopefully when I repurchase a Goty edition on steam for peanuts it'll have that CP2077 2.0 feel....
/Fingers crossed

Any advice for how I should consider using my skill points? I’ve been looking through the list and there’s some interesting choices, but I’m hugely indecisive. I do like breaking into safes and unlocking doors, so I’m tempted by that route, but I’m not really sure how valuable certain skills really are.

Roughly 7 hours in, and haven't the foggiest idea! So I'm sticking with my usual power, health, armour, intelligence route. Haven't touched the game in a couple of weeks though, other distractions.

I went heavily into Science (Research methods, weapon engineering, spacesuit design) and Tech (Piloting and Security, Starship Design), maxed Commerce and Scavenging in tier 1 of Social, and maxed Stealth and Weight Lifting in tier 1 of Physical. I found it to be a good balance of unlocking all the crafting stuff, not being encumbered, and being able to loot and sell effectively for a good cash flow.
Still haven’t put a single point into combat, but never felt underpowered.

That sounds very appealing as I am looting a lot already, but I’m also wondering whether or not I really want to continue looting for the long run. It could be a long old game… Yeah, I’m still going to end up doing it. Nice tip about the combat. I’ll have a look at the skill details again, but it’s not something I had considered putting points into, generally.

I did the usual shit of stealth for crits/lockpicking and science(?) for speech tests. Eventually started adding some in for better crafting and spaceships, but it didn't make a lot of difference tbh. I would avoid commerce I think, you are so awash with caps/cash by the end. The loot was never all that inspiring as far as I remember sadly. A bit like dragon's Dogma 2 which is a real shame. The loot should be the best bit of a weird sidequest or discovery off the beaten track, but usually it's just more mats/cash and something run of the mill.

It's not so bad at lower levels because you need the money and stuff is worth half of fuck all, but merchants budgets don't grow in line with the increasing value of the weapons you pick up. Eventually, much like most Bethesda games, sell them a couple of weapons and whatnot and they're out of cash.

Bethesda not doing something like this was a crime. One planet should have just been the Morrowind/Oblivion or Fallout game.
