RadicalRex Do boss's loot pools change with Mayhem level? I'm trying to get a better version of the class mod I've been using for Moze that I'm sure I got from a boss but have beaten it at least 10 times on the highest Mayhem level (only takes about a minute) and not had it. There are (very) few legendaries that can drop only at either M4+ or M6+, but getting a legendary from a boss is no guarantee it's from their specific loot pool as it could be a world drop. And even if it is, you may need to beat a boss much more than 10x to get a certain item. Dedicated drop chance doesn't increase with Mayhem level I believe, but I could be wrong, it's been so long ago. www.lootlemon.com/db/borderlands-3/weaponsdocs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1fkCwu0zeX1BBGcNEzWGZDr2kQ0IOPSoZQK2FD-zpw1M/htmlview?usp=sharing

Anybody playing New Tales From the Borderlands? If so, what're your impressions at the moment. How does it compare to the first game, how's the writing compared to all/any entries of the series?

Made by Gearbox proper innit? So it should be good
I've started The Pre-Sequel and it's not that funny. Still gets a chuckle now and then but it's nowhere near as funny as it thinks it is. Reminds me of Rob saying the humour in BL3 is like someone trying to emulate BL humour
There's a few design choices that are really annoying as well
I'm not seeing the wisdom in the limited air supply. During fights, it's irrelevant as you're always picking up oxygen refills, so it only really comes into play during exploration where you have to stop what you're doing, go and find a vent or something and come back. It's just annoying and doesn't add anything. Plus you have to listen to those atmosphere warning messages about 50,000 times, which alone should have been a reason to scrap the entire idea. There's a mission that sends you to a specific location to watch a thing happen, but that location does not have an atmosphere and you need to use a jump pad to get there so have to exit your vehicle. So you're watching this thing with your oxygen ticking down. Game design
There's a sub objective for an early mission that relies on you setting enemies on fire with a laser weapon (an effect that happens at random) but you have a limited number of kills to do it which need to be inside an atmosphere (but you not inside an atmosphere). It's just irritating. There's one of those bubble generator things but a) the pricks will stand just outside it and shoot you and b) they keep shooting the generator which causes it to shut down, so no atmosphere again and no burning
The terrain is a pain to drive around because it's all over the place and there's timed missions where you have to do that (they're on the ignore mission list)
It's lots of little things that just make it feel poorly designed and now and again the game will really piss me off and drain the fun out of it (the core gameplay is still fine)
The voice acting veers into 'we can save some money by doing it ourselves' territory quite often. Some of it is so bad I would rather they didn't talk
The classes are really cool though. I love Athena's shield ability. If I could take the classes and put them in BL2, I'd just do that

Aww, I really liked Pre-Sequel. I liked the quirky bogans in space humor, even if a lot of it was nonsense. But yeah, Athena's Captain America shield was cool.
And yeah, New Tales is by Gearbox themselves. Maybe I'll just chance it. Not really in the mood for God of War Ragnarok at the moment. Never even completed the previous game.

It's not a patch on the original Tales by all accounts: I have not played it though, just read the BL subreddits which are generally positive about anything BL.. but not this time. apparently Rhys does the face/heel turn thing, everyone rolled their eyes at that May pick it up for cheap in a few months time or something.

Athena's Captain America shield was cool. Thought it seemed familiar for some reason
Shame about the new one, it looked funny from the 30 seconds or so in the trailer. Not sure they're my kind of game anyway though. Not a fan of The Walking Dead ones

Wow, New Tales From the Borderlands was really good.
Really short though. And there's probably less gameplay than in most Telltale or Telltale-style games. There's less exploring areas looking for items and more cutscenes, QTEs and dialogue choices. But the characters are fun and likable, the humor's pretty great IMO, and the last chapter in particular was really strong.
It is a bit expensive for its length and lack of interactive gameplay though, so I'd probably recommend waiting till it's about $15-20 before buying in, but I definitely enjoyed my time with it. At some point, I'll go and replay it to get the other endings.

Jesus Christ, the credits were about an hour and a half long. You do have the option to speed them up or skip altogether, but I had no idea it'd be that bad.

Probably end up playing it when I've run out of other Borderland games to play
Re: credits, Borderlands credits always have those personal messages from the devs, which are sweet, but make it go on forever

Less QTEs sounds like a lifesaver, that stuff made OG Tales unplayable to me

Oh I misread that, missed the "more" in the middle of the sentence. Good to know, now I'll stay far, FAR away from this game.

Yeah, there's more. I do like that they now have an option turned on by default, where it shows you what the QTE is gonna be before it actually pops on. Like, there will be an icon that prompts you on whether it'll be a button press, a direction or the aiming at an object or person onscreen. So you have about a second heads up before the actual prompt occurs to get ready. But if you just don't like QTEs at all, it might not be for you.

I just ordered BL3 for £3.83. This is a worringly low price. Is it decent? (I trust youse more than reviews these days unless Edwin the fuckface has an account here)

Yeah the plots pretty shit but the combat mechanics and variety of guns is decent. Worth at least 4 quid for sure.

Yeah. it's great. Ignore the people trying to pretend they're high brow. It's funny
The game is extremely generous with its loot, so you'll enjoy that

I paid full price at launch and I was a bit disappointed, but 4 quid is an absolute steal. It’s not a bad game, it’s just more of the same and I think I’d had enough by the end of BL2 / Pre-Sequel but hadn’t realised.

Preowned on Amazon so it's effectively free when you take the pubes into account

Yeah because you'd pay a good £4 for a box full of pubes anyway, never mind if it also contained a game.
I know this becuase I order boxes of pubes for a friend.
Bargain.

The writing's not as good as BL2, the humour tries too hard. But the game itself is great, every character has multiple viable endgame builds.

BL3 is brilliant, one of my favourite games of all time. Played it for over 1000 hours.

Anyone have these games on Switch? The Legendary Collection with BL1, 2, and Pre-Sequel is going for about $10 at the moment. So are Bioshock Collection and a Call of Juarez + Dying Light bundle. Oddly, in the Borderlands and Bioshock bundles, they’re basically the same price as going for the each individual game. Call of Juarez is about $4 on its own, and Dying Light is full price.
Trying to decide which collection to get. The Techland games are surprisingly some of the best ports on the Switch, which is surprising because their games launched pretty wonky on Xbox and PS.
Edit: I think I’m going Juarez and Dying Light actually. Borderlands games are big, and I have the Bioshock remasters on Xbox and have yet to replay them. Never actually played DL, and Juarez being a more arcadey linear shooter might be something I’d dig into more readily.

This is rather fun. It's no Borderlands 2, but then very few games are. Some of the Mayhem mods can do one though

I went mecha mad on Moze. I lucked out and found a mental SMG in one of the DLCs that sprays a bazillion bullets, which carried me through half of TVHM, then got a Harold because TORGUE DEMANDS IT.
Itching to get home and farm more shinies and another crack at the first raid boss
