I knew spacein_vader (Chris) best from the cancer thread but, as he was an RPS refugee as well, there will be those who knew him better than me
To avoid this being lost in the cancer thread, I thought it deserved its own if anyone is able, or wants, to donate in his memory
"Hi Everyone, it's Kate here, Chris' wife. I wanted to let you all know our news.
Chris died last night at 6.35pm. He suffered for a really long time as you know, but at the end it was peaceful and I was holding his hand and his parents were there when he passed.
I just want to say how grateful I am to you all for being his support network. He loved this website and the community you have all forged on here was very special to him.
As you all have seemed to have figured out Chris was a very special individual who gave so much of his life to others. The girls and I will learn to live without him eventually, but it will be made a little easier due to what he taught us.
Thank you all. I hope you don't mind if I include this link below... Marie Curie Rapid Reponse made it possible for Chris to die at home which is what he always wanted. They kept him out of pain etc as much as possible and it's only right we raise money in his memory to make sure other families have the same.
It really is a rug pulled from under you. My mum had pancreatic cancer when I was 12, it all happens too fast to really comprehend. It’s something I think about on a daily basis now I’m approaching the same age as she was
Fuck. That is terrible news. Like others have already said, I don't go into the cancer thread, as my Dad passed away from bowel cancer almost 2 years ago and my mind doesn't need to go back to that.
I lived with my Dad throughout the period since he was diagnosed (a very fortunate almost 5 years) and saw the deterioration first hand. Those final months were like nothing I could have ever imagined. Even then though, I'm a grown arse person, so I can't begin to think what Chris's kids went through, let alone his wife. Managing to get him home from the hospital, even though ended up only being for about 15 hours or so was really important to us too, and I'm sure Chris appreciated it.
I expect Kate and the family won't read this, but sending all my love and best wishes to them all.

Mr Wonderstuff: Chopper gang reporting in together ZX-Spectrum 48k. Always wanted a Grifter though.

EMarkM: I had friends with Grifters and Commandos. I had a Rancho (I think: I can't find it online this morning!), though, which I suspect was a cheaper version. I never had a Chopper, but did have the Budgie

zagibu: Why is it even called grapefruit? It has absolutely nothing to do with grapes.

zagibu: I wanted to write s o c c e r, but there is a mischievious autocorrect in place that changes it to football.

zagibu: But coming back to the PE teacher topic...my PE teacher kept a pair of extra gay short shorts from the 70ies in his bag for people who "forgot" their sports bag at home. I had to wear them many times.

Aunt Alison: Can't read that as anything other than my PE teacher had this great pair of extra gay short shorts that he let me wear

zagibu: Well I can't deny that a small, somewhat female part in me enjoyed flaunting my thin, pale, hairless teenage legs in their full glorious length in front of the whole crew. Thankfully it was before the camera phone era.
