It already runs 4k30 on the PS5 and looks pretty good. I cant imagine 4k60 is going to be worth 70 quid.

Have to be honest, I'll probably end up with this one. I really enjoyed the second but could never get on with the first. I tried to go back after finishing Forbidden West but it just felt absolutely lifeless by comparison so I quickly dumped it again.
They can fuck off if it's 70 notes though.

@nick - it's checkerboard 4k and a rock solid 60fps already.

I thought it was only 60fps on performance and 30fps on resolution? If not, yeah, that’s an even harder sell.

I think we all know it's going to be 70 quid. It still looks nice, the pc version looks even nicer. The leadership of Sony under Jim Ryan really has been categorised as gouging your customer base.

Yeah it will definitely be 70, im just kidding myself.
If I'd already finished it I wouldn't even have considered it at any price much like TLoU, but it felt impossible going back to the first after playing the second. Feels like absolutely nothing moves in the environment.

Feels like absolutely nothing moves in the environment. I think DF summed up the Last of Us Remake debacle well, if they had packaged both games as a collection at a reasonable price, again say 70 quid then I don't think people would be this fucked off, and I think it would work if they did they with Horizon have them packaged together for a 70 quid price.

On another aside I borrowed a mate's copy of The Last of Us Part 1, yeah it looks nice but many times in the back of my head I was aware I was playing a game I had played many times before and it felt old. The chapter in the snow really stood out as well especially as it looked like the PS4 remastered version and the snow was almost a flat texture without the snow deformation of the sequel which really stood out.

They also removed probably the best part; the multiplayer. So you get even LESS than the original. That before you even get to the nonsense of something being remastered twice in less than a decade.
Horizon I've never really played much of, so I can at least say it's a 'new game' when I do buy it (for not a penny over £40, whenever that is)

Maybe they can strike a balance with the next one as that is one of my least favourite things about FW. Literally everything moves all the time and there is shit floating about everywhere. Just calm the fuck down for one minute please.

Can't say I really noticed to be honest other than that horrible grainy visual bug they eventually patched out that made everything flicker in the distance, but going from one extreme to the other was definitely not nice.

Feels like absolutely nothing moves in the environment. The DLC was much denserer. The area was pretty tight with a lot more going on.

Hi All,
I live in Spain but my PS5 is set to Ireland. Looking to get the collectors edition of Horizon Forbidden West but it comes with a digital download. Will this work on my PS5? I know PSN credit doesn’t work between different regions but not sure about actual game codes.

I'm not really sure, but worst case scenario you can just make a Spanish account, redeem there and play on your main account. You could try asking in the general PS5 thread I suppose

Great game this - GOTY for me. I find it funny that most of the side quests are to find a relative or lover who has gotten lost whereas your companions jauntily turn up at quest locations miles away without a problem. Anyhow the graphics are amazing and the cutscene animations really give everyone personality. Still a ways to go but, yea, great game.

On the other hand I finally finished this the other day after dipping in occasionally every few months, largely as I found it thoroughly mediocre. Much like the first I didn't really find the open world to be particularly interesting; it's too waypoint and marker led in exploration to ever feel like you've discovered anything organically, and the things that are there are all checklist items. It's so packed full of *stuff* at every turn that it feels like there isn't actually anything there at all.
Meanwhile it doubles down on the first game's big weakness, the extent of crafting. Too bloody much of it. Got a new bow and want to get it to level 2? Find 5 stormbirds or something, that only spawn in 2 places on the map, and hope they actually drop the thing. By the way, the component is needed by 2 other weapons. And also your armour. Also some of the other components are needed for this other thing. Cauldrons used to be a nice thing to do because you got overrides at the end. Now you get corrupted overrides too, so you can do *even more* crafting. Also don't forget to craft your storage upgrades, and theres 100 types of craftable item you'll never use either.
Meanwhile the combat feels more focused on hitting the weak spots this time around, but the aim assist is shocking and I had to turn it off because more often than not it would just make shots miss the thing I'm aiming at because they'd bend toward something else. God knows how anyone got anywhere without the Gyro aiming.
I will say the game becomes a lot better if you turn up the damage Aloy receieves from enemies and then also turn up the damage she does to them so the combat is a lot punchier and less spongey. And also turning on the easy loot accessibility option to sidestep some of the crafting monotony.
I think it also has the crown for most-technically-impressive-but-somehow-quite-ugly-a-lot-of-the-time for me. Something about the art direction just does not work at all for me.
There's a really great core at the heart of Horizon but they just bury it under this relentless, design-by-committee sludge. Someone over there needs to realise less is more.

Pro-tip to avoid the worst of having to grind for materials - just buy the shit you need. Vendors is most of the big settlements will sell the things you need to upgrade your pouches and ammo, and you’ll be swimming in shards by the end of the game. Use them.
Once you get to the West coast settlements, I think they sell everything you need to max upgrade your gear.
Weapons and armour are trickier but the vendors on the salvage hunts tend to sell many of the bits you need. The NPC you turn in the flight recorder logs to is a good source for rare parts.
Tbh you don’t really need to upgrade much - coils and weaves are more useful to boost the stats you use.
I do accept it’s one of the worst bits of the game - but I loved it overall.

Query for those who have completed. I'm level 22 and just did the Kulrut which is pitched at level 18 with quite a few secondary quest still to do. I don't want the main quest to be a walkover because I'm over levelled.
Would I be better to keep my level close to the recommendation for the main quests or does it matter much?

If you want to keep it challenging remember that you can also adjust the difficult on the fly. e.g. I dropped the difficulty for the arena and pit master challenges because I was gunning for the plat. Then I switched it back to normal/hard/whatever.
So if you feel over-levelled you can always make it harder.

I tended to do most of the Side Quests and Errands as I went along, partly because they often reward you with decent new gear which you’d otherwise miss. (Side stories are also pretty good on the whole so definitely worth your time.)
I was overlevelled for most of the game and never felt it was too easy playing on Normal difficulty… things like the Arena and Hunting Grounds challenges are there if you want more of a test.
You can mop up all the side quests after beating the story, so there’s no real pressure either way. I’d recommend prioritising the side quests you get from your companions, but otherwise don’t worry too much about the order you do it all in.
If you find it too easy, just up the difficulty as suggested.

Thanks, I'm playing on hard currently but good advice, I'll continue to do the side missions as they present along with the main quest.
Incredible looking game, really enjoying it.

Anyone picking up the DLC for this on Wednesday?
PS5 only apparently. I enjoyed the base game, will pick this up eventually as it looks stunning yet again. Maybe I can get through it before Zelda, hmm...

Didn't realize it was out so soon. Though I suppose I only finished the main game a few months ago.
I know it's strange, but with Lance Reddick's passing, some of the appeal has gone as I really liked his character.

Surely that has totally fucked the last game with how it was going with Sylens. It would be weird to recast him because of how distinct a voice he has and weird to just drop him out.

Yeah it's a tough situation. It's either recast him, or Poochie him out of the game

Could they AI his voice, assuming they got permission?
Much as I hated the story in HFW and swore off this series as a result, the last 10 seconds of the latest DLC trailer is making me want to jump back in. That's exactly the fight I wanted in the sequel!

Fifteen quid!! That seems unusually low for Sony. Tempting.
