It started on 30 and I barely noticed judder until I jumped. Then, tried 60 for a bit, ‘silky smooth’, went back to 30 to try it again and it’s horrific. Unplayable on an OLED (if anyone can afford those).

Yeah the judder in this at 30fps definitely feels worse than in other games for some reason. It is absolutely horrible. I don't know whether it's because there's so much foliage moving around constantly making the scene less static or something else under the hood making it less optimised, but it definitely doesn't feel like it's just because the frame rate has been locked at half.
I managed a second playthrough of Miles Morales at 30fps with RT before they released the 40fps option, and found it fine. This would feel completely unplayable to me. The motion of the camera is disgusting.

I don't think I've even bothered looking at fidelity mode in any game so far. Always want 60fps so just keep it at performance.
I guess having spent years with fucking around with settings whilst PC gaming, I really just can't be fucked now.

It's why I stopped gaming on PC, used to drive me crazy pissing on with settings. It's why this choice of 30 and 60 on every game is going to drive me insane.

I hate it, wish they'd just give us 60. Always feel like you're missing out.
Fortunately this is not one of those games as the 30 here is diabolical.

As soon as 60 came in I couldn't play at 30 anymore. I used to feel I was missing out but have learned smoothness > everything else.
Really enjoying this now it's opened up a bit. Love the fighting again, one of the most exciting games for combat just because of the sheer size of what you're fighting.

Yeah 60 is normally a no brainer for me when it's just a dip in resolution but there seems to be a trend of a bigger gap in visuals between the two which is going to do my head in. Basically Insomniac need to tell everyone how the fuck they manage their 60fps modes.

I haven't had to shift any of the big PS exclusives down to fidelity mode up to now so they are on the right path already, and I'm sure they will pull out more black magic as the gen goes on. Just got to accept there will always be janky ass stuff the likes of Cyberpunk and Dying light that won't be ideal when choosing. The proper system seller stuff should be fine though.

Been doing the 'get the lenses from the really tall towers' fetch quest- climbing feels harder on PS5 than PS4. Not noticed any improvement in the (amazing) graphics, but I'm a pleb with a budget projector for the PS5.

I'm honestly not seeing this judder in the 30fps mode I always use motion blur plus I don't have an OLED jut a peasant 4k LED for me. I dunno i don't mind 30fps as it honestly looks very shimmery in 60fps even though it's 1800p but then again it is checkerboard. I think we know this is going to be a thing that we annoyingly have to deal with going forward.

I hope the 40fps thing becomes more common, I can't take advantage of it yet with my old C8 but it could be a real happy medium as this gen continues.

As Decks said I would like Insomniac to share how they fuck they do 60fps with RT and the game still looking clean as fuck.

I can only guess it's because the world is so vibrant and there are a lot more moving parts on the screen at one time than your average game. Making it cause some sort of visual distortion/the illusion that it's worse than it is. It really feels quite horrible to me, much more so than any other PS5 game I've tried at 30fps, and I can't quite figure out why.

I think it’s more jarring because you can switch on the fly. I’ve been playing on resolution for an hour this morning and it’s fine.
And it’s definitely worth digging through the menus. Turning on climbing point highlights is an absolute necessity.

Are Sony going to step up and support VRR? Is it on the road map or don't they have access to that option?

60 over resolution for me, any day.
I actually think the judder in 30 is especially worse on LG OLEDs.
The response time is so high on those TVs, or something like that.
60 also makes the game ‘look’ better to me.

Hi all, probably a dumb question, but I have just put in the ps4 version, got the option to upgrade to ps5 which I did of course. I'm I right in thinking I only need to download the ps5 upgrade only?

Mine still manages to download both versions of every upgraded game, for some reason. Even though I specifically didn't queue the PS4 version of this. Weird.

Dougs. I just cancelled the ps4 version, while the ps5 version is downloading...I'm sure you have done likewise, maybe it is a issue with Sony. Now you have said this I'm expecting my copy to do the same. dfunked.Cheers

It was meant to have been fixed, but hasn't for me. As Nick's issue with downloading in rest mode, it's a bit all over the place.

Unplayable on an OLED (if anyone can afford those). 65" C1 OLED here and it's not unplayable at all in resolution mode. Obviously not as good as performance but it's the smoothest game I've played with the graphics option selected, and I normally go for frame rate. Judder was really noticeable in Demon's Souls and Control. I must have different eyes to you lot.

Maybe it’s an issue more obvious with certain TVs. Hopefully my C9 handles it ok…

It's not unplayable on my C9 but the performance mode plays way better.

Audio mix is a bit wank on TV speakers regardless of which setting I try. Doesn't sound fantastic in other games obviously, but is perfectly serviceable for playing when I can't be bothered putting headphones on (generally when pootling about in open world games). This is pretty much unplayable without headphones for me. Sounds fantastic on my older PS Gold headphones.
I should probably pull my finger out and just get a sound bar.

I've got an old 5.1 system but had to reduce the ambient volume to -5 to balance it better.
