This isn't specifically a dig at H:FW (I'm sure it will be fine), but... I think I'm mostly done with open world games. Or at the very least done with getting them day 1 at full price.
I'm increasingly finding that they just do not respect my time, and time is harder for me to come by these days.

Perfectly understandable, but I still love a massive open world map filled with icons. Collecting stuff and ticking items off a checklist gives me that little endorphine boost, but at the same time I don't suffer from that completionist urge, and am happy to just finish the main story and stop playing once I feel like I've had enough.

Sometimes I'm in the mood for icon dusting. I had a long stint working from home a year or so ago, and just indulged in Ass Creed Odyssey. It was utter junk, but I had a great time hunting the mercenaries and cultists and all that.
I even finished it! Which is pretty unusual for me.

I loved Odyssey, man. That was my favorite game the year it came out. Shame Valhalla couldn't capture a sliver of that magic.

I couldn't get on board with Odyssey, it was just so God damned janky, moreso in animation. Always felt like you were skating on ice and your horse climbing over rocks at a 90 degree angle. Just put me off.

Yeah, although not sure how easy it is on the console. Go on the web store and grab the PS4 version, then start installing it on the PS5 and go to view product and it should be there.

I have just bought it in the app:
Buy the PS4 version on app
Go to you game collection on app select horizon
Click ‘select version’ and there is a free PS5 version you can add to your library
Click ok
Click download to console
Wait for nothing to happen
Get annoyed and click ‘download to console’ a thousand times
Mutter ‘Sony really are fucking useless’ and go download the ps5 version on your console

Ok good. Might hold off for a bit anyway, still not that far into Dying Light 2 and I've preordered Elden Ring. Did love the first Horizon though so if you lot start cooing too much I'll probably fold.

Might be worth removing it and doing it all again from scratch. I find the app pretty good. I even managed to download Cyberpunk from it when I was at work the other day despite my drive being full. Holy shit the graphics guys. Just arrived at the first big vista (you'll know it when you see it) and it was genuinely gobsmacking. To think that this is a cross-gen game. Photo mode is gonna get a hammering. Facial animation and cut scene direction are both massive steps up from the original too. Spoiler for first mini boss: I spent a while walking around the giant robot snake's corpse just admiring the detail on it. Incredible. |

So is performance mode just lower res or is it missing other stuff too? From the video it was more of a softness thing as in you just see more detail with the resolution mode and the performance mode has checkerboard rendering and can look quite soft. |

Is it checkerboard yeah? God of war really struggled with fog effects with that. That area you go to where you've got to collect mist echoes to open chests looked absolutely terrible. Hopefully it's a bit better dealt with in this.
