Which is where we are ending up I think. Might as well get an A rated energy saving thing now I guess

I wish I’d paid a little more for a washing machine with a better energy rating, at least I did that for the tumble dryer. Our washer only lasts a few years anyway so it seemed sensible to get a cheap one.

Interest rates up to 3% then.
I really don’t get how people around here are buying/affording houses for £750k + (a decent area but new build are all smaller than existing and at least 30% more). They’re building so many And they still sell fast.

Estate agents are gonna be fucked, then. I clocked only 7 houses in my town for sale as "first time buyer" homes and some had been up for nearly 2 months.

Remember, only the Tories can fix this mess.
Edit: I see this has been done in the UK Politics thread

At current rates my mortgage is going up £650.00 per month in December 2023. Food has shot through the roof for our family of four. Petrol has massively increased, Gas and Electric has gone up. I'm really starting to worry about all this for my family. I'm not sure how the country will get through it. I've never known it so bad.

Avocado toast costs like £10, so just cut that out every day and you're already halfway there.

Inflation is sky-rocketing everywhere but the UK is worse off both now and predicted to grow more slowly than the US and EU

Only really ventured in here after noticing the difference in food shops recently. Its about 20-30 quid more lately for the same sort of shop.

Yeah it's massively shot up. I'd say Russia have caused a bulk of the food stuff. You're adding about 5-10p on everything each week.
Don't expect Labour to fix it all, though. They can only do so much.

Thing is prices will never correct themselves due to corporate greed. You just know most of these companies are overcharging for all these things, yes costs have gone up but its a lot easier to mask sneaky increases in profit margins when all you hear on the news everyday is how much prices are increasing across the board...

Our food bill hasn’t changed much overall but that’s through shopping at Lidl occasionally instead of Ocado and Morrisons do much, also having slightly less meat.
As nice as it was to stuff myself on half a kilo of pork belly, it wasn’t necessary.

Yeah there's a Lidl next to my gym which I've started using more and more. Morrisons seem to be completely taking the piss.

Funnily enough, our old lidl is now a pure gym. It outgrew its original site and moved to a big, slightly further out of town mega-Lidl and its always absolutely rammed.

Even Lidl's has shot up. It's still cheaper and better quality (esp fresh stuff) for a lot of things, the savings aren't as obvious as they once were - not least as they can't get a lot of stock of some things. Feta is a bastard to get hold of in there (Tarquin is appalled etc)

Energy costs feed into pretty much everything so costs really have gone up. Prices and or income will correct themselves or no one buy anything apart from food, energy and housing and then start to substitute those things... It will just take time and a lot pain.

Ikea has also rocketed up. We popped in for a few bits and left... with those exact few bits. All the other random bullshit we would normally just YOLO into the trolley was far too expensive to just impulse buy

Go to Costco for meats and a few other bits and the prices there have stayed the same. Its the lidl/tesco shop that's taking the piss.
Booze has gone up a lot too.

I’m lucky that I barely drink now. 1 bottle of whiskey lasts me about 3 months.
Now I just need to stop buying crap off Amazon all the time.

Amazon seems to be the best place for cheap whiskey these days. I usually stock up around black Friday and it lasts me well into the next year,
Much cheaper than the supermarket offers in my experience.

I just set up camelcamelcamel alerts for bottles of whatever I liked.
More of a bourbon guy, so Woodford reserve/WT101/Makers Mark seemed to pop up at around £20 a lot.

The best thing about Lidl is the donuts. They're about 50p and as delicious as £3 versions.

Most bottles of wine seem to have gone up by £1 at least in the last 6 months.

Sorry I meant correct themselves to their original rates. I know costs have gone up, but its also a dead cert that most companies will be increasing profit more than they need to because they can and when they do correct the costs they will not go back to where they were originally. Petrol being a good example.

I like the mystery aisle. Will it be the contents of a warehouse in Athens this week? Or will it be weird American peanut butter. Who knows.
