I would have been threatening to burn his garage down by now if he didn't get back to me by end of day.

Eh. Give them a chance to play nice first. It gives you a record of when you raised the issue and you can go full Karen if they try to blow you off. If it was distance sold I'm pretty sure you're entitled to return it for any reason within 30 days. It's also not fit for purpose and that's a separate, also valid reason.

They're a pretty solid motor tbh, but have you been inside one? They're pretty basic compared to a more modern car. Still, if you're ok with that, they go on forEVER if they're looked after: www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202207037413278?13 owners, 280k miles, with a replacement (2.3 turbo, no less) engine! Although, still slow as hell. But if you have a crash, will basically disintegrate most modern cars and carry on. Yeah, I'm already thinking coilovers, wheels, lourves and an engine swap in the future. I wanna go all out! Edit* But yeah, absolutely don't mind about old interiors. It's probably the thing I'm least arsed about. Nice. Well, it's the sort of motor that if you look after, it'll gone on forever. Seeing as we're talking Volvos, Id quite like one of these... www.motor1.com/reviews/597964/1964-volvo-p1800-cyan-first-drive/

I've seen a few videos of that. It looks way better than the standard car with the top of the car/cabin shifted slightly back. Boy is it expensive though.
Bimmer went for it's MOT and I was surprised it only needed it's handbrake sorting. Feels/sounds better with some new spark plugs too.

patrick yeah, I can't justify $750k for one, either. Still very pretty, though. Good news about the MOT.

Finally got my aircon fixed. Or, more accurately, finally found someone who could be arsed to do it. Went to three or four garages who all were going to 'call me back' before I finally had one recommended.
And, god love him, he suggested the pipe could probably be patched for 100 rather than 500+ to replace it. *Touch every available bit of wood* the patch seems to work.

Any 370z fans? I'm looking at picking one up in the new year. A 3.7 V6 seems like a great purchase in the current climate.

Finally got my i30N Fastback last week. First time I’ve had so many horses so currently every drive with it makes me smile.

I was toying with the idea of getting a 370z Nismo 4 years ago but opted for a Golf R instead. Running costs being one of the factors even back then! I still really like them though but haven’t regretted the Golf for one second. Although the Mrs hybrid gets far more outings these days

Anybody know the score about hiring a car in Europe and taking it across borders? I.e Pick-up in France; drive to Italy via Germany/Switzerland/Austria. Trying to avoid flying, and need to get to areas at my convenience rather than train/bus schedules

Wait, what happened with Quaddy's car?
This is like when a TV series gets cancelled before the finale airs - I want to know how it ends, dammit!

Had a recall notice for my 20yr old bmw. Took it in to get sorted and they did a health check, nearly £5k worth of repairs needed. I know they're not all absolutely necessary, but a few I've been expecting to be problematic for a while. Time to give up on the old beast...fuck! Sad thing is it was my dad's car, gave it to me before he died. Not happy.

Take it to an independent garage first. The dealership will fleece you blind.

Absolutely, but as I said a few of the things have been pending for a while and even an independent garage will not be cheap. I've already spent a fair bit on it in the last year, time to call it a day. By fuck are used cars expensive right now!

This is reason #37 why my next car (or one of our two cars) will be electric. So much less to go wrong.
Also: reason #8 why I wouldnt buy another BMW/prestige marque. Out of warranty, they are just money pits.

Just get a Japanese car. They're reliable.
Get a Lexus is you're determined to burn over £50K.

Out of warranty, they are just money pits. My BMW was certainly not a money pit, had it for 9 years and spend virtually nothing on it. Great car, unlikely to have anything as reliable as that again.

In defence of the Bimmer workshops, they are pricey (my service charges are exorbitant, it's a fricken oil change!) but the bulk of the cost are the BMW parts. I also like how they do a check up on the car with a video talking where the part needs replacing and can point out the worn/damaged part, especially when it;s on the hoist so I can actualy see the problem.
It's better than having a mechanic tell me the left cronknut on the bobbleshaft is worn and needs replacing.

Ive had two, one always felt like it was on the edge of something major letting go, randomly going into limp home and stuff and the other one was just mad for consumables and had a few sensor failures. Add in the many, many individual service intervals and youre on first name terms with the guy in the local garage.
Tbf, the most recent one was probably no less reliable than most other cars, I had just had enough of the million service intervals by then.

I know it's an M car, so a little different to your average Bimmer, but my mate's E46 M3 has been an absolute money pit since he's owned it.
It's at borderline comical levels at this point and we both have a good laugh about it, but I shudder think how deep into despair his bank account has shuffled off at this point, well into 5 figures and then some.
You need pockets deeper than a stitched up trouser leg if you're going to run a 20 year old German super saloon. He's braver than me.
To add some counter balance, his E36 328i before that was absolutely bullet proof.

These days even wipers need to be worked away, I don't think putting blades on a car is going to pass regulations.
