Did we not already have a thread for this? I couldn't find one... Anyway, I wish to confess that, while the rest of the world has been obsessing over Wordle, I've been playing a ridiculous amount of an idle game called Egg Inc. I've even spent a bit of money on it. I know it's basically a high tech Skinner box, I know it's fiendishly structured in a way that makes every milestone seem just within reach if I could only afford the next premium currency boost, etc etc. But it's a fun little clicker game that's nice to dip into when I have a spare 5 minutes. The only other phone games I dip into regularly are Golf On Mars (I'm up to hole # 2299) and Polytopia.

Puzzle Quest 3 is out. Free to play, kind of meh.
EDIT: I couldn't find the original thread for mobile games, apologies.

Monument Valley 1 & 2. Lovely and relaxing.
Other than those, I don't really do mobile games as I'm worried they're going to hook me and turn me into a smartphone zombie.

The Monument Valley games are excellent. Puzzle-wise I also enjoyed Hook and Cut the Rope. The Motorsport Manager games are good fun too.

I'm actually kind of enjoying Puzzle Quest 3, as a weird mix of a fast-paced Bejeweled and Destiny. I also like the many different graphical options - I set it to run at 30fps and minimum quality at 50% res, and battery usage seems fairly low throughout.
But I can see it gets grindy very quickly. And there's not much incentive to play once you have exhausted the available chest slots. On the plus side, there's no energy system in place, so you could still play and just salvage what you find for gold.

Well I've become addicted to Puzzle Quest 3, oddly enough. Already clocked 18 hours. The amount of in-game currencies is rather appalling but I've been able to continue so far without any big hiccups (only some grinding here and there). My character is level 14 and I'm quite far into the story (I think). Also it is nice to share my saves between Steam and Android.

Roll and Writes work pretty well on a phone, with Railroad Ink being one of the best there is. Very chill.
I'm playing Tiny Rooms atm and it's a nice throwback to the point and click adventures of my yoof.

Sliding Seas is a different take on the Match 3 genre and is pretty fun.
For paid games, I still adore Holedown and Threes. I always come back to these two.
For some completely free, no ads fun, The Fugue is a great high score chasing game in the top-down driving genre. So satisfying speeding away with tons of police cars on your tail.

Total Snooker is my go to "I need to kill 5 minutes/chill". Been playing it for at least 6 years. It's basic but does exactly what I want from a snooker game, can be played with just one thumb and plays vertically.

I've started Puzzle Quest 3 and my god it's like they went out of their way to cram every F2P system in there. Still kind of enjoying it mind you, so I'll stick with it for a while.
Always online is kind of shit for my commute with sketchy signal though. I might have to dig out the last two games for a go instead.

Drop7, which I *think* is free on both platforms and is ad-free. I have been strangely obsessed with it for years.

Golf Rival. Started early pandemic, still going. Got a good community around it. I'm ashamed to admit I've spent money on it, but not loads.

Wanna feel old? Gaming nostalgia apparently now includes Minecraft Pocket Edition and Jetpack Joyride

I've been playing a bit more of PQ3 and bloody hell it really is a shameless F2P effort. The core match gems gameplay is as good as ever, but fights are pretty much geared towards forcing you to use a revive (which of course costs currency that you can conveniently buy)
Getting through a five round "dungeon" without dying and reviving? Lol, good one.
Also been playing a bit of Plague Inc, which can be quite addictive in a morbid kind of way.

Perfect for playing with a sleeping baby on my lap. And yeah, sometimes it seems very unfair but feels great when you do beat it. Just went through a dungeon on 1 health after the mini boss, and with stuns and spells completed it without taking another hit. Still only got a poxy iron chest for it though.

So it seems that my hard-earned (cough) Google Play wallet credit will start to expire next month. Might as well spend some of it. Any premium games worth buying? I can do match-3, adventures, platformers, runners, and the sort. Not so keen on strategy, tower defense, base building, and whatever counts as sandbox today.
I mean, I could probably buy a permanent score booster for Subway Surfer, but I feel like I should try and invest in something else occasionally.

I recently discovered Zoo Keeper DX on the Google play store for 69p. I used to love this on the DS so was happy to snap it up, even for nostalgia's sake. I don't really use my phone for games, but it's simple, fast-paced, match 3 gameplay has me hooked all over again.
It doesn't fill modern screens fully, and has only 2 game modes but it thankfully lacks any ads and I've got the annoying tune stuck in my head (again).
I think I'd make a terrible zoo keeper.
Great/10

Million Onion Hotel was the perfect mobile game for me. Its weird and funny and fun to play and I still regularly go back to it 4 years later.

Ha, I picked this up after playing Black Bird on PC but didn't stick with it (antipathy to mobile games, plus not knowing what the hell was going on). Must have another go. Black Bird is great too, and completable on Normal by non-shmup fans (me). Hard is where the action is at though, I hear.

I paid for the no ads option in Tomb of the Mask. It was cheap, the game is fun enough (reminds me of the old Sword City by Nitrome), and the ads were annoying as hell anyway.

I wish the Google play store gave you a full rundown of the in-app purchases available for any given title. That Tomb of the Mask game just mentions between 99p and £89.99.

Yeah that would be nice. The game does offer a lot more than just the no ads option, which can be pretty annoying still, but I guess this one single purchase makes it much more bearable for regular play. The remaining ads are all optional, but without the purchase, ads will play after each run. And ads nowadays are getting longer.

I guess Into the Breach is a reason to still have a Netflix subscription.

If you own a netflix sub then Shatter is decent fun. Brick breaker game with some twists like hoovering in the debris to boost your multiplier or blowing to affect the ball trajectory.

Are there PC titles via Netflix or are they mobile only at the mo?
