Yeah, I thought that was very cool. Numenor looked class. The Harfoot stuff does tend to bring things to a slight grinding halt, but it’s still excellent. Just hope they haven’t spunked all their budget already, as that warg at the end might be the worst bit of animation I’ve seen in years.

It’s really taking it’s time going anywhere. It felt like they were riding those horse for an eternity. JUST CUT TO THE NEXT SCENE ALREADY!!!

Honestly, I was bored during a lot of that episode. Some of the acting just feels quite amateur to me too. Plus it's kind of retreading the exact same ground albeit with different characters - the reluctant king trying to escape his destiny, blah blah. Needed more dwarfs and rock smashing sub-games.

Elves sure do like creepily standing on their boats eh. I wonder how many hours that voyage was.

Yeah I think it´s great, plus can watch it with the kids unlike HotD. No real complaints from me.

As a fan I’m loving this but can’t help feel that it might be a little slow and confusing for your average viewer.

Agree it’s a bit slow but I’m loving it nonetheless.
The Galadriel horse riding shot was…yeah. Odd.

Yes very enjoyable. Glad I'm not the only one who thought the slowmo horse jizz face was a bit weird.
Also not clear on why Galadriel gets to wander about freely given she's clearly a problem.
Aside from that all good.

I hate the stupid hobbi- sorry, Harfoots. I want nude Gandalf to roast them all.
(I'm assuming the naked man is Gandalf)

This show can be as slow as it wants when it looks as good as it does in my humble opinion.
Crazy budget well spent.

If they’re aligning to the timeline lore like they mostly are, the stranger isn’t Gandalf. It would also be kind of a cop out if it is. Current assumptions are that he’s a different Istari, possibly even a Balrog.

Love how they’ve fleshed out the orcs and love the elf labor camp.
Hate Galadriel’s slomo gurning on a horse and Elendil feels like an Aragorn retread.

He even did the talking to insects thing like what was in the movie.

I died a little inside yesterday when I read a tweet saying "even Elon Musk doesn't like it", I thought it was satire at first but the guy was being serious in an actual "Elon Musk's opinion is definitive as to whether something is good or not" way. Every time I go on something like Twitter or whatever I wonder why the fuck I do.

Just purely in terms of it being an entertainment product, making us watch the caravan of courage only for it to be a Balrog pushing would be almost unforgivably lame.

My feeling is that they probably want to attract people (like me) who are not up on the lore stuff, by having more characters what were in Lord of the Rings. So aside from a couple of elves who didn't really do that much in LotR, that means Gandalf.
Maybe it'll make the deep lore fans mad, but apparently they already burned that bridge by casting brown people.

I won't be watching anymore for a bit. The first 2 episodes were meh and the 3rd was straight-up bad. I have no problem with things being slow, but the writing is bad, the direction is bad, and I honestly don't think it looks good - it looks like a game, even down to the way it's staged, it's all very static, and shots go on too long for no reason.
Fundamentally it shouldn't be boring, and it is, which means I'm constantly picking holes in it because it's not holding my interest.
I hope it improves, but I'm not wasting any more time on it until it does.

My biggest issue with it right now is my LG CX being shite with 24p on my Fire stick, random but notceable and annoying frame skips / jumps. Googling turns out I'm not the only one. Can't understand how I've never noticed it with anything else though :/

But yeah, I agree, it is boring. Fell asleep multiple times watching episode 3. Every time the Lenny Henry group is on screen is a snooze fest. I actually have always liked the slow talky stuff in GOT though, so maybe I do think this is bad?

I can’t remember the Silmarillion super well but my memory of it is that its LOTR which repeats and mirrors many of its themes. Like Aragorn and Arwen being a history repeats itself of one of the great love stories of legend. Of course when LOTR is the more famous story the fates of some of these older characters might look like knock offs depending how Amazon handle them. Although this isn’t necessarily a series for the nerds so most people probably haven’t noticed that Galadriel, Elrond, Sauron and maybe-Gandalf aren’t the only named characters to appear in the LOTR films to have appeared in this series so far.

Sadly no.... that can of judder I can understand and am fine with, it's consistent and predictable. What I'm getting is completely random frame jumps no matter what the current scene is. I've got frame matching turned on on my Fire stick (4k HDR), and have tried certain motion processing (de-judder / de-blur) on the CX which has helped reduce the amount of skips, but it's still happening. If I watch through the in-built app on my Sky Q it doesn't happen, but then I lose HDR :/ Really annoying.

You could just watch it on the Prime Video app on the TV? It has HDR and I haven't seen any frame skips.

Yeah, and that’s fine - it’s what they do with them that counts. And Elendil isn’t going to be the same as Aragorn because of Tolkien’s thematic echoes and the web of references that anchor LOTR to the Silmarillion. He’s going to be the same because the writers want to recapture the LOTR magic and Viggo Mortensen went down very well the first time around. So we’ll watch Elendil’s rise from sea captain to King of Numenor because that’s like the journey Aragorn took. I do wonder if that’s Sauron we’ve seen, though. I’m inclined to think not.

TBF, The LOTR books came out before The Simlarillion did, so any repeated stories would have been repeated in the latter, even if chronologically it happened first. The Hobbit released before either, which seems more confusing since its film series released in between the LOTR and TS.

Who, the convenient (and handsome) northern bloke with the mysterious past, who happens to smash up some suspicious locals? 🤔

I wonder how many series we’ll get out of this because the movies have shown how things end for Isildor and even though this is a legally distinct production that clearly has nothing to do with the movies in terms of plot or character that’s obviously not true and this is totally the same continuity.

The Silmarillion was written first, wasn’t it? Just the publisher was just more interested in funny hairy toed adventures than epic tales of sad immortals
