I wonder what Bungee will do now, they got away from Microsoft once already but now they'll have the IP they created back with Microsoft. Bungie left Activision three years ago, and brought Destiny with them. The IP has nothing to do with Activision anymore. I didn't realise they sold it.
They claim it was was because it didn't 'meet expectations'. Everything they said gives the impression that they were strapped for cash and need to make cutbacks, I guess it's all relative, and Activision expectations are always substantially more than current revenue.
It's a marriage made in heaven (probably) Microsoft are greedy buggers too.

Wait, who owns Respawn? If we’re talking fps all I want is Titanfall 3. EA Also, if this acquisition doesn't lead to id and Raven reuniting for Heretic III, what was even the point? What? Call of Duty and World of Warcraft revenue? Oh, okay.

Apple are about to buy Sony right? No not SCE, Sony. If this is true and not a throwaway joke post, this is bigger than any acquisition Microsoft can make, IMO. Also selfishly, I much rather have Apple TV as the OS for my next TV than fuckin' Google TV edit: oh, quick search tells me this is a dumb rumor that's been going on for years, and it's mostly about Spider-Man and its rights

I don't think we'll ever know the whole story. What I have heard was that the game actually made quite a bit of money, but Activision was unhappy with the terms of their deal (that Bungie owned the IP, since it meant Acti couldn't milk it), and together with Destiny 2 losing steam due to its pre-Forsaken woes, they eventually decided to just let them go.

It’s a bit depressing that, with all that money spent, not a single gamer will be able to play a single game he couldn’t have played without the acquisition.

The price to put 1 metric ton on Mars is about a billion dollars. So with 70 you could put a small base on Mars. Or they could have launched 7 James Webb telescopes. This actually made me sad: Imagine how much awesome stuff (knowledge) we could have if this money went to something like the technologies for making a James Webb telescope, instead of moving a (big) company from column A to column B.

If a fraction of that sum had instead been put into funding creators to build new studios and IPs it would have actually benefitted gaming. All it actually does is add restrictions. It’s a huge waste, in other words, but then massive corporations will massive corporation.

The next 100Km long particle collider replacing the LHC will cost 20 billion, so they could have gotten 3 of those. The ITER fusion reactor will cost 15 billion. And let's not forget the Breakthrough Starshot project, estimated at 10 billion. So James Webb, the next collider, a fusion reactor, sending a probe to Alpha Centauri and 15 billion left to go to Mars.

70bn capital investment in a diverse company with a good track record can never be equated to spend on development of new products in house.
Be interesting to see more of MS' plans. Will they hive off parts they don't want? Will regulators make them? Will they make same decisions as for Bethesda IP?

This is done with the future in mind, the current number of game pass subs is irrelevant. Gaming revenue is growing at an alarming rate and expected to be worth over 300 billion a year in 5 years time (I think that's what I read).
Also it's not just about game sales, Warzone makes 5 million per day in revenue (although how long that continues is anyone's guess).

One of the DF dudes made a good Twitter point. If MS freed all the satellite studios from CoD servitude they’d have a half dozen studios to make new games. Heh.

Is this supposed to be a gotcha? I'm confused. The tweet? Spencer is known for teasing stuff in the background. He sneakily revealed the Series S plus other announcements this way. Activision is on the shelf behind him.
