I'd agree, i used to get so caught up in the hype, but honestly, since not checking EG any more i don't even get the hype/asstemps cranking, so can leave so many.
I am definitely a bit more picky, although that didn't stop me being semi-burned by Dying light 2, one of the few games i have actually bought this year! 😢

I might be bowing out too, I still play games but I'm no longer picking up massive bundles or diving on something because it's suddenly cheap.
You can usually find me picking up something older or surfing my backlog and getting a large amount of hours from it instead of new stuff. The only 2022 game I bought was dieing light 2 and that was probably weighted more because I wanted to something else with some shiny rays to trace.
I'm fully intending to pickup D4 next year and if my experience with the D3 is any kind of indicator then Im probably sorted for a year or 2

I was thinking the same. This year's challenge wasn't really a challenge for me. I'm still playing games and love doing that, but I've been doing a lot of other stuff as well. It also helped that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 came out (still playing that). That was actually the only one I pre-ordered. Looking ahead, I already have Nier:Automata ready to start after XC3. Then there's also the new Zelda coming out next year. Add a couple of shorter 'side-dishes' and maybe few surprise releases and that's 2023 covered. Or maybe it's just that 'I'm too old for this shit'

Not that I don’t game, but the crazy shit I was doing before (day one purchase on shit I wasn’t even that fussed about, moving on from games I was enjoying because new shiny, etc. ) This kind of describes me at the moment. I don't know what's happened but its been a bit of a disaster for me on this front over the last 18 months. I could probably do with the challenge but at the same time I don't have the discipline at the moment to stick with it. Backlog as grown, and I'm just binning games or putting them aside at the first moment of a hint of boredom or difficulty. Also getting wound up over how many hours I put into a game, and feel the need to show to myself I got the most out of a game (like trophy count). I don't know what's happened, never used to be like this, but yeah, not in a happy place with gaming at the moment. Been thinking of maybe just starting a new psn account or something to wipe the slate clean, or selling one of the ps5 or switch so I just have one console to limit the need or feel to buy something, but those are pretty extreme ideas. To be honest I don't think its just a gaming thing, I'm really restless at the moment, I really struggle to watch films, even tv shows, don't make time to listen to music like I used to. With gaming I think it just turned into something I do out of habit rather than enjoyment, come home from work, game for a bit to wind down. Repeat. Yet I'm probably doing more stuff outside of gaming than I used, cycling, out with camera, odd bit of art and 5 aside footy. I don't know. Just feel like I want to punch a wall. Heh. Sorry for the the ramble.

I find myself in the same boat. Cancelled my Prime subscription, just don’t really watch anything on it. I’d cancelled Netflix, but my Mam is a sub account still. She watches a lot of shite that she likes. Disney still seems worth it, but that may well change.
Games wise, i have let the Nintendo and PSN subscriptions expire. I don’t use them, and the extra content doesn’t gets used. There are some games I’d like to complete, but I might as well be disciplined and pay for a month and rinse two or three at a time.
As for buying games, I still have a weakness for a few franchises, Star Wars, God of War and Zelda. But I do get my money’s worth out of them. Maybe Mario Kart. But the new tracks aren’t enough to spend more money on.
Except, I do bugger all else.

I'm definitely out of the Challenge next year folks, mainly as my game playing/buying does not align with the Challenge parameters any more.
I am very disciplined with non-shmups, basically only buying games now as I get to them (going through in chronological release order any that I am interested in), usually in a big sale. I will also always play all the content of a game other than obvious filler, like glitches in AssCreed games.
Shmups also are being done in a careful chronological release order, allowing me to experience the evolution if the genre from '88 till the present day. Many won't get more than a few hours as I'd never get through them all otherwise.
So thanks to Pigwhip and the legendary Duckbreaker (and Phattso really) for my time here, as I feel my game buying and enjoyment is now in a strong place thanks to the harsh discipline of Pigwhip. Time to duck out, so to speak.

Perhaps we could change it to a Patient gamer type thread where we just generally talk about the things we are playing and belittling the people who.. well are shit at self discipline like me. So a thread for patient gamers or those that need to see a doctor.

Gone a bit mental with a trial of Gamepass.
🔟 Walking Dead: A New Frontier 🔟 Maneater (I know) 🔟 Grim Fandango
And so close to the end of the year.

IT. IS. DONE.
2022 is in the bag, people. I'm actually really impressed... WITH MY ABILITY TO TOLERATE YOUR FACILE DROOLING ATTEMPTS AT SELF CONTROL!
With that said, the vast majority of people still even in the thread and pursuing this most noble endeavour actually went FULL HARDCORE this year, with a ten game challenge. Genuinely, from the tip of my beak to the curve of my arse cheek, I am full of wonder that y'all actually pulled this crazy thing off. Kudos. Maximum kudos.
Stay tuned over Christmas for the PIGWHIP awards ceremony (prizes! *) and 2023 preview.
Merry Christmas, you 'orrible lot!

I've really enjoyed gaming since I joined this challenge. Like others on here I was buying games out of habit and enjoying very few. This last two years I've been much more choosy and spent more time with games I might have given up on that I've ended up loving. I'm not going to lie, Xenoblade 3 helped enormously for the challenge (couldn't put it down for months, 175hrs in total) but overall this challenge has shone a light on my appreciation for games by focusing my attention on the experiences I know I will enjoy. I'll be here next year if the Duck resumes the challenge.

Ha I can dig that- my Elden ring obsession took 160hrs of my limited gaming time according to true achievements, so that saved a lot of other games being played!
